What is the best self defense weapon innawoods?

What is the best self defense weapon innawoods? I’m a undergraduate botanist and like to study prairie plants but yesterday I had a scary run in with two homeless men who catcalled and whistled at me. I need a weapon to be threatening enough to not get raped but also conveniently compact and lightweight.

A walking stick you could use as a club would be helpful. Pepper spray on a keychain. Or a gun.

I’m 5’9. What would be a good gun that is compact and big enough to scare someone by drawing on them? I don’t want to have to deal with clutter and having it catch on stuff in my bag.

Don't draw on someone unless you intend to shoot, and you sure as shit better fully believe that someone is about to cause serious injury or death to you

Drawing on someone just to scare them away is a speedy way to getting your gun rights taken away forever, and possible federal prison time

So if I were you, I wouldn't be concerned with how the gun looks, but what you can shoot comfortably and before any of that, possibly work on your maturity. You smell of summer creeping in

Don't point a gun at someone sure, that's brandishing and is illegal. But deterrence is by far your most useful tool for self defense, followed by cardio (less relevant here). How the gun looks absolutely matters, why do you think my car is home to my revolver and not my glock? Because a full frame .357 says "frick off" much louder than a 9mm semi, no matter how practical each are.

Drawing a firearm and not using it but instead intending to intimidate is literally brandishing.

Intending to intimidate is brandishing. Checking the status of my weapon is not.

how is brandishing on a homeless person innawoods illegal, the frick is he gonna do call the cops? lmao

Brandishing is a pretty good way to get someone to frick off, but only when you can actually pull the trigger. Don’t worry about consequences unless you’re doing it in a crowded area with witnesses. If some dude in the woods is following you and being sus, a flash of a gun, or hell even a warning shot, is pretty much unprovable in court.

Looks don't matter at all. The only time someone should see your gun is if they're getting shot at by it, like

Don't draw on someone unless you intend to shoot, and you sure as shit better fully believe that someone is about to cause serious injury or death to you

Drawing on someone just to scare them away is a speedy way to getting your gun rights taken away forever, and possible federal prison time

        said.
The only calibers you should be looking at are:
        >9mm
        >.380
        >.40
        >.357 Sig
        >.45 ACP
        DO NOT get a .25ACP, .32 something, or .22lr.
DO NOT let some shitty gun store clerk tell you that you can't shoot something bigger than .22lr because of your weak woman hands or goad you into getting a revolver because of the same bullshit fuddlore that women aren't capable of racking a slide. If a gun store clerk tells you either of these things, leave immediately and go somewhere else, don't give any money to misogynists.

how is brandishing on a homeless person innawoods illegal, the frick is he gonna do call the cops? lmao

Yes. Homeless people are still people with legal rights, and many have phones. Many have friendly cops on speed dial.

Trying to appear intimidating is an invitation for someone to test it. So, don't. Walk around with direction and purpose, like you own the place. Have a gun for when someone decides you should be a victim. If someone starts making noises and poses that cause you to be concerned, either don't engage or use one of many, many socially acceptable ways to tell them they don't want that smoke.

Get an LCP Max. It's a very compact and affordable .380 ACP that holds 10+1 rounds. Get a case of 500 or 1000 FMJ training rounds and a couple boxes of a high quality defensive round like Hornady FTX or XTP. Find a local gun range that has beginner shooter training classes, train with the training rounds you got, and then test a magazine or 2 of your defensive rounds to make sure the gun functions with them and you can handle the recoil compared to trainers. And get your state's concealed carry license if you need one.

Do not draw on someone unless you're afraid for your life and prepared to shoot them. If they surrender before you shoot, obviously don't shoot them, that's now murder, but never brandish unnecessarily.

You'll get a lot of troll responses here because it's PrepHole. Don't mention you're a woman unless it's particularly relevant, which this really isn't.

Ya goofed. But in case OP was real, I agree. LCP Max is great for folks with smaller mass. OP should probably bring a male friend to the store to bypass the Woman Goes To a Mechanic experience.

But now you have a hobo that runs into town, looks up the nearest homeless advocacy law firm and hopes to sue for a fast buck.

That's why you practice to be a fast enough shot that he doesn't have time to surrender, and call the police before he can talk to his lawyers if you can't

Thanks for all the replies anon. I look like a fat nerdy man. I need to cut my hair but I’m too lazy to go. I had a knife on me at the time but after I heard the whistle I immediately left because I guess they have some sorta code. I don’t want to appear threatening, honestly I would be fine with something like a .22 but these guys often do drugs and shit and can’t ve reasoned with. My neighbor told me a story while he was camping out there that he had to fire into the air to get them to back off.

There are some nice compact 1911s.

Maybe a Rock Island Armory BBR (Bravo Compact) model in a fanny pack holster?

But I suggest you read up on pistol self defence, because you give the impression of being uninformed on the legal and practical aspects.

No one would question you carrying bear spray, or a solid hiking stick.
I could link you good resources on self-defence shooting, and stick/staff fighting.

And tie your hair back, it'll get in the way if you have to move.

Incidentally, have you seen this channel?

It doesn't sound like you really have an interest in firearms so I'd recommend you get a double action revolver like the Ruger LCR. I tried teaching my mom how to use her Walther PP and there was just too much for her to keep track of. She also had trouble racking the slide, which is another reason to get a revolver.

You should get a Taurus Judge or S&W Governor. You have a good chance to run into rattlesnakes doing that sort of thing and .410 snakeshot out of one of those guns works great on them. A friend of mine who ranches in SoDak swears by his Judge and has dispatched many a rattlesnake with it. I would load the first 2 chambers with snakeshot and the last 3 (or 4) with .45 Colt.

Also, carry pepper spray as a desecration tool. Better to spray someone to make them frick off than risk an unnecessary brandishing charge. If they persist after being hit with pepper spray, then it's time to merk them.
