Because they used to be what most of /k/ could solely afford. The days of $89 nuggets, $400 wasrs, and ultra cheap spam cans are gone.

It’s funny cause now mp5 clones from Turkey are coming down in price drastically because of their economy shifting itself. I wonder what country will collapse next so we can get cheap guns.

Oldgays will tell you there was a time when Mosins, SKSs, and AKs were cheap. As well as 7.62x39 and 7.62x54r. Norinco AKs, N/OPAPs we're pretty easy to find at like $300-400. Not to mention a lot of that old, wooden, Soviet tech does have an certain appealing aesthetic to it.

They were never THAT cheap for us in the commercial market. The lowest I've ever seen them was $79.99. That would put a crate of 12 at about $1,000.

Didn't they use to over those crates of 4 rifles for like $250? They were always those nasty ones covered in cosmoline. They were always hit or miss wether you'd get something neat or a beater.

The facination with the beyond shit 7,62x39 round is especially interesting. Like, if Russia or China still had them as their main cartridge this might make "sense" and least from Russophile cope and seethe point. But Russians have dropped 7,62x39mm in 1974, along with the AKM, RPK and RPD. Their special forces retain a number of AKM's, but only because Russian MiC is incapable of effectively suppressing AK74.

      >7.62x39 a shit
Nations are still adopting new rifles in the caliber. While 5.45 and 5.8 are superior in most cases, they aren't superior enough to justify scraping current inventory and heavily retooling if you're in any way strapped for cash.
