The caterpillar 797 can carry 360 tons of weight.
What if someone weaponized this vehicle and added 330 tons of armor + 30 tons of weapons and ammo?
The M1 abrams weights 55 tons. We are talking about 330 tons of armor.
Can current anti-tank weapons defeat it?
are you moronic ?
Obviously.
>destroy tire
>"well shit i guess we're now just a really tall target"
>destroy cab
>"well shit i guess we're now never moving again"
>bombed into fricking oblivion
>"well shit i guess this was probably the single worst idea in military history"
A trophy system and iron dome would only weigh 2000 pounds
Good ol ISIS dun it

What a waste ,the engine alone has so much potential for engineering applications.
I would make an even more mobile aircraft drop something heavy on it. The ordnance a missile or a plane can carry will always outstrip the armor you can put on a frickhuge box.
Just put anti air stuff on top of it dude, easy.
Compare the surface area of an Abrams to the surface area of this Mad Max reject of yours. Hint: It's a bigger disparity than that between the armor weight of an Abrams and your 330 tons.
Back in the day when I was a shotfirer on an iron ore mine when we where setting of a large blast rather than remove the haupaks from the pit we would position them so that they were facing away from the blast with their dumps at full extension acting like a blast shield.
Of all the absolutely moronic shit Anons post here, this is actually vaguely interesting.
No, it wouldn't work for a million reasons.
It would be kind of cool though.
It’d be pretty cool as a SHTF mobile bunker, with the back converted in to living space. Though a van would be more practical (if cramped) if roads were clear.
I don't really think you could keep the thing going for long in SHTF. I've always thought it'd be cool to convert one into a "house" though, maybe use it as a hunting lodge kinda thing on some land or whatever, imagine setting some patio furniture up on the ledge by the cab and drinking some beers up there.
>I don't really think you could keep the thing going for long in SHTF.
800 liters for 100 km when at full load.
Its tank is 3800 liters and it can haul up to about 225 square meters so if properly prepared, you could drive for a looooong time.
But then a conventional truck might be a better fit.
Why not create a mobile armored dock for the m1 abrams?
Just like iron man docks into the hulk buster. The m1 abrams docks into it.
Remove the bucket and the cabin.
The m1 goes inside an enclosure where it has added front and side armors, and also a thick top armor shaped like pyramid hat.
If the mobile armor is damaged, there should be a ramp from behind the armor where the m1 abrams can escape.
It would totally frick it the frame
T. Used to drive cat 797Fs now I fix them. Coal miner btw
It'd work great against a town if you went killdozer mode, but terrible against a military.
1000 gal of diesel only lasts 24 hours of runtime
not very good in a shtf environment
it's fine as long as you don't get a flat tire.
It would be less armoured than a modern MBT. Square cube law is a real pain.
You could.
Its sides are 2 x 225 square meters.
The front and behind are 2 x 150 square meters.
If going for 1cm of steel, you are looking at barely 3 tonnes for the armor.
Provided the beast could carry the full load outside the hauling bucket (sorry, ESL), you could go up to a full meter thickness of steel for the armor.
Now as for the actual use, that's something else.
I guess it could be somewhat nice against rebels in a mining region of Africa.
Not sure, given the price tag, if you ain't better off with a few old soviet ifv.
And I forgot the Steel density, meaning it's closer to 12 cm of thickness.
Sorry
