I'm here in Lansing with the Army Division sponsored by the Infrastructure Corps down at Amazon. If I make it out alive we'll have a home on a lake. If die, what's the diff? I'm dead anyway. I'm a goner I'm a goner I'm a goner. But I'd rather be Gunner than a goner. Bombed out ruins of Flint in my rearview. Bombed out ruins of a half-dead man. Had to stop smokin meth so they'd give me a gun. A small price to pay. I don't wanna starve on my own. When we hit the border didn't see no troops. All I saw was Mounties patrolling refugee camps. They didn't even point their fricking guns at us. Outnumbered, then I heard the machinegunners gunning. Was it the one at target practice? Most of the dead were Americans fleeing what had become of us. The sergeant said "That's what they get for runnin." It felt fricked up going through their belongings. But I got a solar powered phone full of old songs and a speaker to blast for the folks in my pod. On the way to London, Ontario we found a farming village and they told us to take what we needed which was everything, and shoot what we didn't which was everything else.

    >with the budget they have
they're still barey making a profit, anon

if we presume revenue as budget
    >$470 billion
that's about 9 times the average major NATO nation, so that gives you a guideline what is achievable

if we presume market cap as budget
    >$1.3 trillion
that's about 20-plus years of the bong defence budget

market cap is a useful metric because let's say Amazon puts all its effort into becoming a military power, instead of expanding its business. say it can allocate 4% of its market cap
    >4% x 1.3 trillion = $52 billion
that's something like the French defence budget

so yeah, Amazon could theoretically be the size of the British or French Armed Forces in a couple decades, if its business maintains AND it dedicates its energies towards becoming a private military

If you sell a launch service that's cheaper on a $/kg basis and just as reliable, you're straight up better.

              Anonymous

And that's the question isn't it?
"just as reliable" is a big question.
Also, you need to consider what other goals rocket launches have that aren't "put thing into space" and why those may impact launch costs.

                >"just as reliable" is a big question.

It isn't, Falcon 9 reliability rates are the same as other providers.

                >Also, you need to consider what other goals rocket launches have that aren't "put thing into space" and why those may impact launch costs.

Admittedly, launch precision is a real concern, but only for boutique military and intelligence launches. The bread and butter for SpaceX is telecoms.

Privatized militaries don't work because the econimics of running a military don't mesh with corporate profitability. You spend a lot of money on personnel, equipment, and training, but when you use it there is a risk, expectation really, that some of it gets destroyed. It is a giant money sink, but actually engaging in combat means having to spend more money. It worked well enough historically when gear and lives were cheap, but there is a reason why modern PMCs are all about security and logistics, with at most some capacity to operate as light infantry with some support. You don't win wars maintaining a profit margin.

they've certainly got the money to with a large enough budget, but it would not be atlas tier. at the current date, the top management know muh diversity hires is for show to keep up appearances on one hand, social engineering on the other, and access to esg credits for their corporate social credit score, but for something martial related, i'd think they know to hire professionals to at least run a suitable boot camp and use all their marketing power to run parallel recruitment ads to any national military like the east india company to get younger, cheaper recruits trained and up to speed instead of fully staffing all fighting personell with a $30k+ per month salary that adds up quick. yes they're uber rich , but even they still have a lot of overhead to maintain, and costs matter when trying to upkeep a professional army thats loyal to the money and not the novelty of country/corporation x,y,z,ect. if they're not signing checks, they're losing loyalty. its the nature of the professional soldiering.

          Fundamentally, war is not profitable.
Not if you're the one doing the war. A nation has the ability to offload the cost of war elsewhere and balance it out through financial benefits from elsewhere.
It's why PMCs generally don't do war and mostly do smallscale security jobs, because an actual war costs money and doesn't make any money.
