What happens if Russia goes from strategic to tactical air offensive operations?

They can do it from within safe Russian air space after all.

excuse me the other way around

rather than just hitting targets, just level the cities with glide bombs (which look like they are made in shop class but seem to work)

You mean lobbying rockets from their own territory for their own safety or they'll get shot down? Most likely, many, many aircrafts shoot down in a single day. I wish a homie would

      >You mean lobbying rockets from their own territory for their own safety or they'll get shot down?
Precisely. Now that we know F-35's are patrolling the Ukraine doing the job of AWACS, they need to stay in Russia. You've got it exactly.

NATO can't shoot into Russia. It's forbidden now.

Theyd probably task maintenance too hard and fall out of the sky (on belgorad)

The air defenses are pulling the punches, also it most be mentioned aircrafts airframes deteriorating and aircraft pilots/crew fatigue due dozens of missions with very low number of trained pilots available; adding to that, they cannot produce numbers needed for this war. Once they're gone, that's it

They still make 'em, they'll be OK. Buck up there soldier. They still make A-50's too.

Not visually confirmed, but multiple sources (including some Russian ones) reported on it, so there's some credibility

I'm sure I could dig up videos that definitively prove it but here's one that popped up back then showing a torn off Il-76 pattern horizontal stabilizer with frag damage, filmed the night of the second shootdown.

They're making some for export right now. India ordered some last year, they will deliver them next year. They're also making the A-100 which will be largely the same but with enhanced radar. That will replace the A-50 in the future assuming the thing works to their satisfaction.

in 80 years they will have 2 more "new" A-50s built, i wonder if they still be using those D30 lowbypass turbofans. It would be like buying a new car with a coal fired steam engine.

Its a pretty plane, but its a massive fricking swing wing and a nightmare to upkeep based on that alone, discounting whatever moronation russian engineers came up with to build the damn thing.

that didn't happen though, the source is some stupid frick in singapore. do you think F-35s are magic? you realize they use link 16 and link 22 just like everything else right? MADL is basically a meme.

you see in the infinite wisdom of the americans
instead of developing one asyncrhonous tdl they decided to have frick 20 of them to work together
that resulted into having to develop bacn programme
and while this is perfectly fine for usa because they dont care to jump into the 21th century that absolutely can never work in nato
hence why at least in the navy region all the new designs that come from europe they are all multi tdl

Everyone can use link 11, and link 16 was us exclusive because no one else wanted to install the systems on their ships (it's not much of an upgrade unless you're integrating a ton of aircraft). Link 22 bridged the gap so everyone could use what they had without having to sacrifice capability from those that wanted it. Madl is meant for highly contested electronic ecosystems, and specifically designed for stealth aircraft, which the us operates and no one else (or at least that was true until the f35, which has madl integrated)

        >NATO can't shoot into Russia
        NATO aren't shooting at all
        >It's forbidden now
Ukraine is forbidden from doing it, by NATO, when using NATO-supplied weapons... in other words it's a restriction that already has loopholes and which can just be completely lifted whenever NATO feels like it

Why isn't Russia running like 40k ceiling bombing runs? Bombs are way more fricking effective than missile attacks! They gained air superiority in week 2 so there is zero need to worry about interceptors!

they don't have enough glide bombs or delivery aircraft.
the only reason the towns are the front have been destroyed is through hideous expenditure of ordinance and the fact they were small towns. any large city would take more bombs than Russia has, and more flight sorties than they could support.
and that's before you start talking about losses to air defenses, which would be catastrophic.

The 8 strategic bombers Russia has that are actually still capable of undertaking combat operations are needed to maintain the illusion of having a functioning nuclear triad.

I keep hoping that the next deep strike into Russia will involve blowing up several of them again. They seem to be going for the refineries instead though, probably softer targets.
