i welded together some steel scraps from the shop i worked at. the steel is far too weak for most rounds but works great for .22. other than that i just use junk i find in the woods. found a frying pan, some glass bottles,a missing hiker from the 90s, and some cardboard i glue pictures ofjean jacques rousseau on

When I'm shooting in the woods I bring a bunch of 8.5x11 sheets of paper with basic targets printed on them and tape them to paracord strung between trees. Also have a little steel mini ispc silhouette I sometimes take out.
I will buy big targets if I'm zeroing in a new gun or optic just so there's more paper to have a chance to be on.

Question. Would old brake rotors be fine to use as steel pistol targets?

how do you plan to turn iron brake rotors into steel, anon

pretty sure brake rotors are steel, but I could be wrong.

why waste the money on making rotors out of steel when their entire purpose is to just be a disc and get hot

also they might be ok for targets for rimfire but don't underestimate the risks posed by fragments. dont stand close, always wear wrap around eye protection.

those targets aren't going to reliably destroy common handgun projectiles the way a correctly mounted and hardened steel target will and may generate large fragments as a result.

I'm pretty sure they are mild steel.
Making things from iron is moronic, nothing is made from iron.
Even wrought iron, and cast iron are steel, and not actually iron.

What do you mean iron brake rotors dumbass? Do you think they use pure elemental iron or something? Steel is iron + carbon and other trace elements. Everything in a car that contains iron is steel.

          >What do you mean iron brake rotors dumbass? Do you think they use pure elemental iron or something? Steel is iron + carbon and other trace elements. Everything in a car that contains iron is steel.

Brake rotors are typically cast iron, shit for brains. Cast iron is an alloy with more than 2 percent carbon. Wrought iron is almost free of carbon, but nobody makes it anymore except hobbyists. Steel is a few tenths percent carbon. It was originally made by removing carbon from pig iron in open furnaces, later the bessemer process, now mostly electric furnaces.

Cast iron is usually too brittle for use as a target, but can be made malleable for things like brake discs and engine crankshafts. Engine blocks are made from grey cast iron.

Wasn't meant to be a blanket statement, but ok.

I realize this is a meme thread, but I’d highly recommend using shoot n c’s. Every shot should be a data point, otherwise you’re just wasting ammo.

ok, now remove the rest, stand up from the bench and do it again.

lol, if you can’t stack shots offhand from 10 yards in you need more dry fire practice

post shot timer. Everyone here can drill targets slow. Shooting quickly is what's hard.

            >everyone can drill targets slow
Yeah, that’s what I said. Everyone should be able to stack shots under 10 yards with no time pressure.

I stopped buying targets years ago. Index cards fit in my range back too nice. The important thing is that I don't shoot the top of the card. That way I'm shooting under the ranges' hangers. Sometimes I use paper plates but only at 25 yards. My local range only goes to 25 yards.

post shot timer. Everyone here can drill targets slow. Shooting quickly is what's hard.

I really need to get to the range and get some more groups, already posted these.

          Yes they are off handed
          Yes they are slow fired.
Ranges get a little weird about rapid fire but with a good cadence, where you're timing the trigger reset with the front sight falling back into place, you can keep up a rapid succession of hits on target. The last time I tried to go real fast, it opened up to about 5-6" at 10 yards, which I was happy with rapid firing.

I barely shoot anymore, will post targets next time I do.

I found the guy who has his rifle clamped to bench and fires one round a minute while complaining about anyone else doing more than that.

Shoot n C's 6" or 8" diameter circles or 12"x18" human silhouette or 12"x18" grid square targets with one center red square and then 4 other smaller squares.

    Fricking phone rotating shit.

I use IPSC turtle targets/USPSA torsos for speed drills/doubles, and Langdon Tactical multi-purpose targets for precision drills, or close and small transitions. The Langdon targets are super versitile- you can do Dot Torture on the 10 small rings, you can transition from a small dot to the B-8 and back to a small dot for throttle drills, punch 'em out to 25 yards and shoot groups on the B8, zero your dot on the 1 inch squares at the center- they're the best overall target you can buy IMO

Rifle stuff I use shoot n' sees because it means I have to walk up to my target less often
