      It's worse than a AR-18 clone, actually
Atleast the AR-18 can fold and doesn't beat itself to death

I only have experience with the civilian version which I own, an MR223-- its a bit heavier than most ARs with its piston system, which although its very reliable, probably isn't much of an advantage if you don't need suppress it. Lots of people say its really overgassed, but I've never thought so, and the newest versions of the military rifle, such as the HK416F, have an adjustable gas system. The overall quality of all the parts, bells and whistles etc. are above average. I'd imagine that its a good option for those wanting to get a high quality, hard wearing, and fairly moron proof AR pattern rifle into a military, hence why the French adopted it-- it might not match up to the top of the line high end civilian ARs, but compared to a lot of the service rifles which its replacing it more than fits the bill. Little things like the ambidextrous bolt release might not seem like a significant advantage compared to nicer civilian ARs, but on a slightly-more-moron-proof military rifle it's a much bigger upgrade, especially when comparing to the M4 variants which it's meant to be replacing

a friend of mine own one too. i was really surprised how fricking front heavy (not heavy) it is. My AR is a M16A3 Clone, with Govt Barrel and everything, 9,5 pounds with everything and i can point and manipulate it much easier than the MR223. i always loved how everyone points and laughs at govt barrel profile but then cooms over heavy barrel and piston on these guns

fair enough; I definitely agree that too many people gush over them when, in all honesty, the M16 flavoured ARs would suit them much better. Certainly easier to shoot with irons on a full length rifle; I agree with you about the pointability

Real 416s that ZOG death squads use are 10.3s, not the heavy ass 16" barrel that the MR223 uses.

I have an 11 inch MR223, and it's still a bit too front heavy compared to similar length ARs-- the barrel length's weight's difference is negligible when compared to the gas system.
It's not the end of the world for the rifle, but it is a real consideration.

Honestly, to guys who are doing in-out kill missions operating out of air/ground vehicled, the benefits of having less gas in the face, impeccable reliability and less parts breakage compared to a Mk.18 outweighs the extra weight that's comes with the HK416.

I can't only assume it came down to weight and cost. They're both awesome rifles that I'd love to own, but we know HK loves their premium taxes and while I can't find official numbers I have to assume the L119A2 is lighter.

Overpriced trash, just buy a Wolf A1 if you want a piston AR.

No reason for a civilian to get this.
The AR15 will serve you just fine. Law enforcement and not even SWAT teams would really benefit from using it over an AR since they can always baby their gear at the end of every shift.
This is a heavy, tough and long lived gun which is all about reliability and utility. Still performs great with a 10 inch barrel, isn't picky about suppressors and allows for accurate bursts.
Imagine the mk. 23 if he assault rifle.
Some nations adopted it as service rifle which is overkill and a waste of money since cleaning your weapon is part of the drill and the climate is mild.

France got it as their main service rifle but it was mostly because the FAMAS was getting too costly and wasn't adapted to most NATO equipement.
