BTW, I agree with you. The farther from its Natural form, the shittier it is. Sometimes the situation/expediency
        requires preservatives though.

Also you say "meat" which implies flesh, skeletal muscle.
You should really be eating organs. The heart and liver are the two best parts of an animal.

          Anonymous

Heart is muscle, liver is not muscle. Liver is not protein dense as the heart or traditional skeletal muscle.

Heart is cardiac muscle, which is not skeletal muscle, just as the muscles of the gastro-intestinal system are not the same.

Liver is 7 grams protein per ounce.
Very lean beef is 8grams/ounce and flavorful cuts are 7gr/oz.
Liver is much more micronutrient dense, however to the point of being almost unedible every day for fear of Vitamin A toxicity.

I was originally under the impression that liver was less dense (speaking in terms of weight/volume) compared to muscle, but I stand corrected; I found https://www.aqua-calc.com/calculate/food-weight-to-volume which proclaims 4 ounces of beef liver occupies 0.36 cups with the same weight of beef steak measuring to 0.46 cups. Today I learned something.

What sucks is FDA leniency on labeling
                >Pre-cooked, post-cooked, round up, round down?
You are right in concept; skeletal muscle is the best readily available protein source, especially in a field forage situation. But, there is a reason predators and scavengers typically go for the organs first and it arguably is not flavor.

Eat Polar Bear liver for a month and see how that goes.
It is fat soluable, so cumulative.
In a survival situation your subcutaneous lipid deposits will likely be less, but that is both a reduction of cell size (first) and quantity (autophagy) IIRC, so the danger is still there.

Frick vitamins. Farm animals have higher concentration of lead, cadmium, arsenic and zinc in their livers and kidneys. Eating it now and then is great, but never frick around with heavy metals. They ain't no joke. I can introduce you to a guy who got gray hair in his twenties.

I work with metals and always remember that "The Mad Hatter" is heavy metals.
I assume this is a survival situation, so unless you are a dead shot and only eating the liver of deer from an EPA sight, you should be good.
Vitamins literally (hate the over-use of that, but; literally) allow your cells to function.

Not him but you must have missed the part where he called it "b***h breasts plant protein" in that regard I don't disagree because I've seen a lot of brands who are supposed to be using actual meat in their products quietly start calling it "protein" while not telling people it's actually not meat but fake meat kinda like burgers you'd get at a gas station. Really though read the ingredients, textured onions flour is part of it so I can understand people being irritated by others normalizing the abuse of the word "protein". It's different to say something has protein in it and flat out refer to protein as if it's meat product when it's not.

Apophantic regress ups the tautology ante by making the referent not even synonymous or equivalent, rather moving from species to genera. Protein could be GMO RoundUp infused onions processed by deliberately mishandled and further environmentally adulterated Red China, or it could be OP's homosexual cum. Gymcels and their macros eat ass.

Pretty much this. A lot of the "In the woods" people act like they're ready to hunt but they really aren't. They practically ready for a glorified extended camping trip. True survival will require a person to not only be able to catch their food but know how to cook it and make it actually taste good.

I added a little bit of chicken broth, then you got the dripping from the chicken as it cooked. Turned up the heat at the end so the skin got crispy.

I love cooking as well. Not only is a creative act but I also enjoy thinking of the corporations who I am denying money by buying their premade slop. They've overplayed their hands, and in so doing allowed me to discover a new hobby and save money. I wish a sincere death to all price gougers.

You know a black guy looking like that believes in some crazy shit like wanting to use A-10 Warthogs on BLM protests. The last time I was buying a handgun from Cabela's some black dude and his woman (who I assume was there to facilitate a straw purchase) tried to pull my associate away in the middle of my paperwork to look at some handguns. She told them to take a number and that someone would be with them shortly and they got mad like she's supposed to just walk away from confirming the info on my 4473.

I wonder why nature is a white person’s thing. You’d think non-whites would be closer to nature being poor, but it’s not that case — they greatly prefer the squalor of tenement ghettos and generally aren’t interested in the great outdoors. Anyone have a take on this?

It's because they tend to be more narcissistic and psychopathic than Whites, which leads to an inability to understand their connection to nature, or to care about nature as a whole. Spanish MREs are pretty primo. Depending on what kids you get some even come with tooth brushes. Current ones you can find on the market will cost you an arm and a leg for single serve rations but you get great stuff like lentils and chorizo stew, mackerels in oil, fruit in cream, beef with peas, calamari in oil etc. Of course you get the average side items like water purification tabs, Vitamins, cleaning and hygiene stuffs, a stove and fuel tabs etc. Also expect the breakfast and other meals to come with coffee, chocolate and other chocolate drink mixes. Spain's love of chocolate can not be understated.

I usually have trail mix. I grab some fresh fruit as well. I have a can of fruit in my bag just in case. Cans are very heavy.
Taking meat innawoods can be a problem considering spoiling, the weight of wet meat and whether making fire is an option. If you're going sicko mode, you can take a can of tuna.
Summer sausage and jerky keep well.
I like to save the fatty ends of steak then slow cook them in a pan. They develop a pleasant texture. Very greasy, do not eat too much.
If you do this with pork or poultry, it won't taste good. I might look into making pemmican.
I keep one ramen broth packet just in case I get lost and I absolutely have to make soup of something. It weighs practically nothing and it might be useful one day. I also keep a bag of salt. It is useful much more often. I also keep a packet of straight ginger powder and one of black tea just in case I want something more in my water.
Dry oats or dry flat oatcakes are a very competitive option if you're out in the woods for a long while.

If you're just spending half a day out there, get some cheese, sausage and crackers and eat them in a nice spot. Absolutely fantastic dining experience. The mountain air and nature scenery make every bite a borderline spiritual experience.

Nothing, unless I find a lot of shrooms or something that makes me feel like it'd be a waste to just leave them. It's a good excuse to go on a couple of day's fast when I go innawoods.

Is there a DIY way to package stuff like pic related besides generic plastic bag vacuum sealing? IIRC the material used is a tri-layer mylar/foil combo. Also, any good grocery store equivalents for things like snack bread and pork patties?

The backpackers pantry Chicken Pad Thai is hands down the best freeze dried meal out there. I eat them at home when I’m feeling lazy some times. They’re a little spicy which is a nice change in pace.

For me, it's ramen. Get some canned beef barley soup, a bit of jerky and a few baked mini potatoes and it's a delicious and long-keeping meal you can make on a campfire.

here, from a different day. This one was jalapeno tuna, diced carrots, and what's basically a grassfed beef sweet n spicy slim jim I like to get from the farmer's market.
(sorry for the weird file I'm not good at using a computer ahaha 🙂 )

That is a great combo. Soak the jerky for like 20 mins before adding it into the ramen.

I always thought this was the stupidest most obvious shit. Literally just advising to buy pantry goods and put them together in a bag.

Toast, sausage, eggs, coffee, tea and some soft cheese is always nice to have when it's damp and cold and morale is low.
