what are you doing other than going to the range? I like shooting at paper but I think there's more to it than just standing still in a stall or shooting from a bench

I mean you don't have to do all the participation trophy stuff. Just shooting at something while moving just seems more practical to me than just standing still or going prone.

Look up how many animals are harvested every year by hunters sitting or standing around. Moving is for tacti-tools who think they're going to stop a public shooter and that makes it cringe.

That's not mandatory, it's just common. Your choice of weapon at a competition works a lot like handkerchief codes, and if you have a lot of guys with CZs, well, that's what happens.

Whenever I'm at the gun club outdoor range to which my uncle has membership, I shoot my AR15 from the prone position underneath the bench. I also practice hipfiring with my AR15 and handgun over there.
When I am at an indoor range, I practice distance shots especially with my Mauser.

If you have the ability to shoot outdoors, the best realistic combat pistol shooting you can do is shooting 3D targets, like old mannequins or something. Hell, dress them in old clothes for realism. In combat point shooting your accuracy is much better with a 3D target. The eyes and depth perception work better

shooting garbage and random shit is more fun than any other type of shooting. vaporizing water jugs, shooting books with steel or ceramic shit in them, steel cans, shooting office furniture, propane tanks with flares, car doors, aluminum plates, rocks, old notebooks, etc.
    then it's shooting sport clays.
    then it's shooting clays/skeet
    then knockdown/moving steel
    then stationary steel
    then paper

I do bowling pin shoots with my carry piece, sometimes I head to my land once a month and shoot soda cans and camp out of my car. Gotta get the septic in soon and get my ass reamed by BLM so I can use the burn trench as a backstop for pistols along with the tractor tires I collected from my neighbros.

I cut out two vtac boards the other day and positioned them facing a treeline on some land my family owns. I can only shoot in that one direction because there's a hill behind it that no one ever goes over.
Since I can't shoot too dynamically, I'm guessing I can just do forward movements. Are there any drills people usually practice in this set up

    >Join the military
I am in the military, military pistol ranges are the most boring ass shit ever. The military completely takes any ounce of fun out of shooting. Even just blasting randomly with your pistol at no targets is more enjoyable then a military pistol range.

Understanding situational awareness and being able to read a room is more important.

Understanding movement is more nuanced than just cover vs. concealment and involves everything from slicing the pie, to unorthodox positions, to under cars, to defending stairs. Most people are clueless.

Also, and I mean this genuinely, if you aren't spending more time either at the gym or outdoors doing cardio than you are spending shooting, then you're doing it wrong. Being physically will save your life and keep you from being a decrepit imbecile.

    1. Have a good head on your shoulders.
    2. Learn to read the situation.
    3. Get in shape, that will do more to save your life than a gun.
    4. Become financially sound so that you have a decent life and can support a family.
    5. Master fundamentals of marksmanship.
    6. Understand your pre-decision flow chart so that you don't have to make major decisions in real time.
    7. Understand tactical movement.
    8. Practice paced rapid firing.
    9. Practice shooting while walking.
    10. Practice unorthodox position.
