Typically standing guard at an airport or embassy in some hostile nation. Your also going to need a truckload of experience if you want contracts that aren't total garbage. Keep in mind that they also take in technical jobs like electricians and pilots.

The old GWOT days of 6 figure Triple Canopy contracts if you could breath and speak English are like 15 years behind us.

All "security contractors" have been replaced by either the huge pool of Ex-SF coming off of GWOT or cheap foreign labor for lower level work. If you don't have tier-1 experience you're fighting a huge pool of experienced candidates for what isn't actually all that high of a wage anymore.

Tl;dr, unless you're already in, you'll never get in.

"Pays well" is a matter of opinion. It's never been a lucrative gig and the guys I know who did it basically either couldn't land a better gig for one reason or another or we're trying to "build time" for better work.

thoughts on french foreing legion? i want to join and gain experience for private contracts

The odds of any given person, especially from the West, making through the FFL to start with are so low as I don't consider it vaguely realistic for most people. That said *if* you managed to do a full set of FFL enlistment you'd be in much better shape for some contract work, but why you'd want to go hang out in more shitholes for comparatively low pay without even the esprit de Corps to deal with the suck is beyond me.

whats the best case scenario you can get as a private security contractor with SOF background these days

Your best gig is stateside bodyguard/security work for some rich frick. Second best is corporate security consultant. Way way way down the list is "mercenary" work in some African shithole.

What people don't understand is there are *very* few "high speed" private jobs and the vast vast majority of contract work doesn't go within 100m of a gun ever. If you do managed to get an armed job you will most likely be a glorified door guard with pay to match.

Tl;dr as I said at first, the "golden age" is long long gone, it's not that big of an industry, it's not that well paying, and it's not that good of a lifestyle. You would be much better served getting into corporate security or consulting than you would be overseas contracting.

Risk assessment, security assessments, event security, some guys do physical pen-test work. Consultants don't "do work" they explain what work needs done and advise on how to do it.

Basically you're banking on the fact that while you don't know everything about a given topic you know more than the person hiring you and they're willing to pay.

You're only real shot is being a Ranger or a SEAL if you're American or Royal Marine if you're a brit. Nobody else really gets hired, especially these days. PMCs work varies. Some guys are operating, some do EOD or piloting, and most of them just drive trucks or guard gates. And most of the time, a car mechanic, firefighter, welder or a truck driver earns more for an hour in the us. You want to go the easy way? You can get certificates (at least in Europe) and guard ships from pirates. You sweat in 50C, stare at nothingness, eat shitty food, stay away from home, internet and civilization for months, without shooting anything

The pay is about 3k USD/month, with no serious upgrade prospects. Granted, while you work they feed and shelter you, provide medical attention etc. but you would be better just going into merchant navy if you're interested, as 10k USD/month is very managable with a few years of experience, work conditions are similar or better, and you actually do something rather than stare at nothingness. Especially if you have any engineering skills, ship engineers can retire at fricking 35 in Europe

      Kinda but also frick no
      >Warlords no longer need to abuse the locals?
The warlords you're thinking of didn't tend to hire mercs all that often anyway. Besides, they're all getting their shit pushed in by their former LTs who lack the cash and islamic terrorists, who for obvious reasons, won't hire you.

    >Black Ops missions, no trace so you can't actually prove you did 20+ years
    >Get arrested for petty crimes, multiple felonies

    >Embarrass coalition forces by acting on 3 raids with them to capture bogus Al-Qaeda HVT's
    >Embarrass yourself by making your own illegal PMC in Afghanistan and torturing said bogus Al-Qaeda HVT's until one of them gives a bogus name (but it actually hits pay dirt and gets an actual bomber)
    >One of these targets also includes an Afghanistan Court Justice
    >GET ARRESTED BY COALITION FORCES AND THE ENTIRED UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT
    >Get out of jail and write Afghanistan fan-fiction with the help of your childhood hero, Robin Moore
    >File lawsuits against the Pentagon, POTUS, SCOTUS, the DMV, FBI, CIA, MI6, MI5, Afghanistan courts, a random car mechanic in Florida who slighted you
