It was a total meme some Goldman Sachs employee came up with. Said bank used to have fund for BRIC asset invesment but it rapidly lost value. I don't know why South Africa was added.
As far as I can tell, its only use is for Brazil, Russia, and South Africa to be economically dominated by China. Not happening to India obviously, I think their motivation is to counter China within it.

It's a useful term for mid-development countries which aren't utilising all of their resources. The difference is one of trajectories: they're all tending down nowadays RE pop trends, yet russia and Safrica aren't really comparable to the others in size. Still, it's mainly just for expected returns from a same sized investment considering the diminishing returns from spending it in an advanced economy where all resources are being utilised to a high extent.

          >I don't know why South Africa was added.
China invited South Africa to be a member of BRICS hoping that Beijing would be able to exert the same kind of debt/trap leverage that it does with other African countries. However it didn't happen since China is only the 8th biggest investor in South Africa.

It's an economic term, not a political movement. The closest thing to an actual bloc would have been the NAM and that's a big stretch. It doesn't help that Russia is actively playing the bad guy and the PRC is trying to fill the USSR's shoes on the global stage.

since the tourists from /lgbt/ don't understand military doctrine or where it comes from, they probably don't understand where russia was 'putting' all that titanium that it wasn't using for su-57s.
The glowies already prepped the red october scare and warmed the social sphere to the idea with fear mongering, but the sheer scale of russia's submarine fleet is itself daunting. the fact that they are rusting apart hasn't stopped them from evading the navy and that's troubling too.
I never really understood why they decided to pour all of their resources into submarines, instead of splitting it across the navy and air force like the US does. the only suspicion is that they have a methodology for working with one division, so they don't need an air force if they have a submarine fleet. they won't need a submarine fleet if they have an air force, so they decided to focus on one and one only. it takes a lot of balls to commit to that and honestly believe your are still good.

Russians are actually responsible for many of the crimes perpetuated against the West for the last decade. They are getting exactly what they deserve and their mouthpieces are being called out, rightly, for their complicity in those crimes.

Using new conscripts to hold or delay the Ukrainian advance as long as possible while painstakingly rebuilding his ability to build new combat power. This will be difficult and basically amount to repeating what Ukraine did but with significantly less motivated troops. It would require Russian leadership to pull their heads out of their asses and a few other miracles.

He's done. Even nuclear weapons are a cope. Nukes are not a "press button to win" mechanism. WW2 was a completely different situation. Japan had no allies, no fuel, no food, no steel. They were on the brink of being a failed state. The military had even arrested the emperor in a failed coup for trying to surrender. It was a demoralized society in tatters.
Only victory in Ukraine can save his bacon and that is now impossible. Ukrainians will not give up. They have high morale, are fighting for their very existence, and NATO will provide whatever it takes. He would have to do a level of nuclear devastation never seen before to stop Ukraine, and that would be met by America and China making sure that Moscow and St. Petersburg are turned into fields of nuclear sludge.
He is fricked and he has no way of coming back. Watch closely, this is the biggest geopolitical blunder we will ever see in our lives, and it isn't even over yet.

Sometimes I think about our perception of when an era begins and when another ends, and I wonder, in a couple hundred years, what is the event people point to as the separator between the 20th and 21st centuries. Is it going to be 911? Covid? But now I'm pretty sure it's this. After this is done we'll really be in a new world. NATO and the EU are stronger than ever. Russia's gone, the fifth columns are gone. The other day the EU passed huge sweeping legislation to deal with the russian gas situation, legislation that intervenes in the economy. This should have taken years to pass, if it even passed. Yes, but a change of year doesn't automatically bring about a change of societal attitude. There's a period called "The Long 19th Century", ranging from 1789 (French Revolution) to 1914 (World War One), because those were the epochal events that dramatically reshaped the world

              Absolutely, and Luka knows it.

Plus, if he uses it and it gets BTFO’d, he can’t make his shekels off of the corruption.

So far, he’s proved himself a master of earnest non-commitment. He says all the right words to keep Russians out of his turf trying to conquer their “Alliy”, but he doesn’t do a single thing to give Ukraine or NATO cause to paste him.

Either he’s incredibly lucky or incredibly good…and probably a bit of both.

If he’s REALLY smart, he’ll be the one to broker any peace treaty between Russia and Ukraine.
And if he can pull that off, he won’t NEED to be appointed a Colonel.
He’ll have MAJOR prestige and be showered with dirty JooShekels by the West.

Putin can then take his colonel’s boards and shove them up his tight ass.

Copy-pastaing a rant I saw about Yeltsin/Putin over last spring

          >The Russians view the 90s with horror and repulsion. Not because of economic woes. Russia has economic woes before the 90s, it had economic woes after the 90s.

          >What made them HATE it about all else was the friendship with the West and total Western hegemony. Gorbachev and Yeltsin are evil traitors because they were chummy with western leaders and worked towards world peace. It was a shameful time because Westerners stopped fearing or caring about Russians. That is not what Russia wants or what Russians want. Russians want to appear strong, to be the "bad guy" (they literally get off culturally on this, being an antagonistic force. Look at their reactions to the first day of le special military operation). Peace is bad, peace isn't cool. Peace means the West stops caring about you.

          >They want to frick with the West and engage in grand 19th century-style geopolitics. They want to bring back the right to conquer and the amoral proxy war. They want to be a great empire in the most traditional definition of empire possible. They want to have tanks roll through European cities and for Eastern European countries that joined the West to burn. They want to be the Empire from Star Wars, to be obviously violent and repressive but in a cool and chique way. This is why the 90s are looked with such horror in Russia, because Operation Desert Storm put a nail in the coffin to the concept of a country just invading a country because it wanted to.

            Anonymous

            >This was the entire point of the war. Putin thought he was so clever playing denial about invading Ukraine without cause, then did it with absolute glee. Here, would be the return of history and the reversal of the global precedent set after the 1st Gulf War. The 90s would be corrected, the Cold War would be back and with it Russia’s history of menacing its neighbors because it wants to. Even better, it would herald in a new age of Colonialistic conquests driven by the idea of manifest destiny and the right of the conqueror. Russians and their defenders online immediately abandoned any pretense of morality or justification, they would take over Ukraine because. Nobody really believed the “nazis” or “stopping genocide in Donbas”, they themselves would say it with a grin and a wink.

            >However, while Putin seemed so self-satisfied, it all fell apart very quickly. Just as it fell apart against the Poles. Just as it fell apart against the Swedes and the Turks on so many other occasions. Just as it fell apart against the Japanese. Just as it fell apart against the Finns. Because Russia, despite its love of military, of fighting, of menacing, of conquering is rarely militarily up to the task.

            >Russians dont want prosperity or peace. They are different from other peoples in that regard, perhaps no other group in the world shares this trait (even Muslims, who at least are driven by something greater than the need to antagonize). They would rather starve and live in dirt than live in a modern peaceful member of the European community

Sad isn't it, Russia really could have been a serious challenger to the west. It had all the resources and people it needed. It had the military tradition and it had the defensible geography.

But instead of a Bismark they got a Mugabe, what a sad pointless exercise in human folly.

Putin is going to do one of two things, and very soon:
    1. Solidify the lines and declare victory, or
    2. Solidify the lines and announce the shift of military ops to anti-terrorism.
He's not going to keep mobilizing. The current wave is just to bolster the lines now that the Ukrainians outnumber his forces by a large amount. This is to allow him to switch the geopolitical situation back to normal with resuming gas sales to be the top priority. Putin simply wants to be in a position of strength for those negotiations.

Conquering Ukraine was NEVER his goal. His original, maximum goals was to do a rapid regime-change; a Russia-friendly client government would be installed and Russia would be out of the country the moment the new government was in, only leaving some troops to offer security. If the Russian army wasn't so spectacularly corrupt and inept the above plot would have probably worked. Kiev would have been fully encircled and that would be that.

If he can't install a new regime, and he can't have Nord Stream 2, then he's going to try take as much of the Ukrainian large shale gas fields in the eastern and southern parts of the country. That was his "plan B"; if he can't keep the West out of his gas sales entirely, he'll at LEAST keep the West out of Ukraine's huge gas shale gas deposits (which was the point of the 2014 invasion to begin with).

      Through which pipeline?

        Anonymous

Through the enormous pipeline infrastructure constructed by the USSR to facilitate that gas trade to begin with. The entire point of Nord Stream was to reduce and eventually eliminate the risk to that gas being at the mercy of Ukraine who inherited all of that infrastructure from the USSR to begin with. That infrastructure is also the reason why the West got involved with Ukraine. The West is trying to get rid of Putin by destroying the basis for his power and tremendous wealth -- by eliminating Russia from the European gas trade. That's why the the US was so bitterly against Nord Stream 2 and basically killed it politically last year.

Absolutely moronic take. Yes, reliance on it will be intentionally decreased but not one nation is gonna reject cheap hydrocarbons in general because of MUH POLITICS. If nation states were as hyper rational when it came to strategy then the USA wouldn't have made itself so reliant on China etc. or Europe on R*ssia. Lessons may be learned but the economic elites have too much influence to just be completely denied (besides, it's stupid to put yourself at a concrete disadvantage over theoretical drawbacks when compared to those nations willing to profit off of the cheap energy).

            >You might wanna look up the definition of "ever". This wasn't even implied, let alone spelled out.
So youd admit that Russia will give Ukraine the land back including crimea?

No idea. Let's hope so. But even if this somehow turns into a Cold War kind of situation (not that I expect R*ssia to be able to hold out long in such a scenario but let's ignore that for now) Europe would sooner or later ramp up R*ssian energy imports again once the latter stops sulking. Fricking UKRAINE is still paying them for oil and gas RIGHT NOW, not to mention the rest of Europe.

If total share dropped to, say, 15% or so then even a complete stop of deliveries wouldn't be the end of the world but in the meantime you'd still make/save a bunch of money if it was sufficiently cheap. Even complete occupation of Ukraine (which now probably wouldn't even mean the end of hostilities given the partisan activities) wouldn't provide a NET gain anymore at this point, assuming continued sanctions. The R*ssian economy is beyond fricked, its future is a smouldering ruin. People on /k/ don't seem to be keen on economic analysis and thus are apparently unaware of just how reliant they are on foreign imports for almost EVERYTHING. Their manufacturing in particular is a fricking joke without Western parts. Some of that is just a consequence of living in a 21st century global civilization but even with that in mind R*ssia is much, much less capable than even considerably smaller European nations for example. Take their domestic toolmaking industry: Almost completely reliant on (mostly) German machines. And to a lesser degree it's been this way even before the collapse of the USSR.

R*ssia is a peripheral power, to borrow the term from world systems theory, and doomed to stay that way for a whole host of reasons. By sperging out in February and drawing the ire of the majority of Earth's power centers (and not even securing the support of the ones who felt indifferent) they fricked themselves beyond comprehension. This kind of demise doesn't become readily apparent within a matter of weeks or months since depletion of replacement parts etc. only matters on longer time scales but once it does hit its consequences will be catastrophic. Think worse than their dreaded Wild Nineties.

Honestly, the only option for R*ssians to avoid at least the utter ruin of their nation in economic and political terms would be a voluntary surrender on the scale of Germany/Japan. MAYBE they could still at least keep their nukes but short of a complete withdrawal, war crime trials, public prostrations and so on the West is unlikely to let this chimpout slide in the foreseeable future. If the FSB letters are legit then analysts in R*ssia itself are extremely aware of this, too.

There are two, let's say "plausible", options, both now totally out of his control and quite impossible, but they are there.

Saved by the midterms: the gop insolatonist wing get enough seats to hinder or block the lend lease, no more money or supplies from the USA would be quite bad, even if UK keeps helping. If they block access to Intel resources would be even worse.

Saved by the crazies: some people say that Putin, even with the moronic decisions he's making, it's the most grounded and realist of the siloviki, if he's defebestrated the replacement could be more belligerent and even more moronic, so the west will offer him a way out so he doesn't get replaced with someone worse.

So assuming these losses continue or even increase exponentially, Russia is fricked in this conflict. But at what point do they give up, and how? They've already shown willingness to massively downscale ambitions when they withdrew drom the north and abandoned immediate conquest of the whole country in favour of pushing from the east. If even this limited plan fails, what then? Surely they won't hold on for every square inch of soil. I imagine at some point monke realises holding the east isn't possible and withdraws everything remaining to defend Crimea. Then we have a big standoff there which probably the ukrainians still win but this time with more nuclear sabre rattling.

In terms of what he will realistically do? Russia has the unfortunate habit of doubling down ad infinitum and then when they finally get completely shitkicked hold a grudge over it for the next 300 years. They are a people pathologically incapable of recognizing that they are a cancer on humanity and have been for at least 400 years.

In realistic terms? Well, cut his losses. Ukraine won't stop. At all. Not at Crimea. Not at Donetsk. They don't want to leave Russia a single fricking foothold and will keep fighting until they are gone. They don't give a frick about compromise to it and have gone more balls to the wall as the war went on.

As such the closest thing to a clean exit that Putin can get is to order a full retreat, cooperate with war criminal prosecution and most importantly, willingly cede Crimea and terminate the Sevastopol lease in exchange for sanctions being dropped and reparations being taken off the table,

He won't do that. Russia will never sell its overblown, copium fueled sense of pride. But it would be the only safe exit he has. We have gone well past sunk value at this point even if Russia somehow turns the tide. They are fricked unless they reign in the long term consequences.

          Objectively incorrect.

Pretty much every axis force had to pay war reparations in greater or lesser fashion. As did Iraq to Kuwait after they got BTFO'd to the tune of 52 billion dollars, if you want a recent example. The process was less vindictive than in the past with this only being roughly a seventh of the sum asked by Kuwait.

We just stopped comprehensively bankrupting our past enemies. But that did not stop us from getting about 230 billion dollars worth of reparations from Germany (adjusted for inflation), or about a third of what we beat out of them in WW1, and about the same amount from Japan. After WW2 the allies also made a point out of it of using labor and material appropriation rather than debt to collect reparations.

He got a lot of his military leaders friends killed. Destroyed their entire army in terms of materiel, personnel and reputation. The economy is heading for a nosedive. What’s going to happen when these masses of under trained, under armed draftees start getting slaughtered? Is there anyone left inRussia with two balls to rub together?

I think his whole idea is to find everyone with balls and send them to commit suicide via HATO before a revolt can happen

    >moronic "TRUMP IS A RUSSIAN ASSET TAKE"
Opinion discarded. The guy who made opposition whine because he threatened to bomb Moscow if Putin didn't play nice is not going to hand over a nation to him.
Fascinatingly, the geopolitics is not based around the "ORANGE MAN BAD" meme.

Right now his best move is to maximize military losses and purge anyone disloyal in Rosguardia to prevent a postwar collapse coup.
His current moves seem to indicate this is what's happening.

      >kill off entire male population
      >the country becomes one big harem with one man at the top
      Truly a genius plan.

Stop making threats about using nukes or fighting NATO. Stop shelling random cities and save that ammo for actual enemy forces. Abandon all territory but Donbabwe and Luganda. Consolidate all forces available to hopefully hold on to those two places. Evacuate anything and everything Russian from Crimea before the Ukies can blow that very important bridge because they're absolutely going to the moment they're in range. Imprison or execute anyone caught abandoning things like tanks, trucks, and equipment that could have been saved and used.

The Ukrainians would absolutely still come to take them back but your forces are much more concentrated making it likely much harder to breach the lines. This isn't a guaranteed win even if your war goals now become just taking Luganda and Donbabwe but you're less likely to get steamrolled and have massive collapses of your front lines.

Honestly, Putin's best option is to disappear one night with a frickload of money and some prime pussy. He's probably not making it out of this alive otherwise whether it be war crimes that come back to haunt him or one of his own men giving him a headspace adjustment.

Dig in and consolidate whatever territories left he has, use civilians as human shields, of course the problem is that by this point it has become painfully obvious Russia military is a relic of a bygone past, they are being destroyed from a thousand cuts, from getting their supply lines destroyed, it's becoming obvious massed warfare and sheer numbers isn't going to save them, what's the point of sending 1000 tanks and 100,000 conscripts to battle where they are picked up by small teams who first go for the logistics jugular?

Even using tactical nukes will be pointless as Ukranians have avoided as much as possible troops concentrations and nuking the cities of a territory you claim you are liberating and belongs to you is counter intuitive, you don't need to be a genius to see a man nuking "his own" country as someone who you better get rid off ASAP.

What is worse for Putin is he literally can't remove the same incompetent generals who turned their army into a mockery as they are their main supporters in this whole mess, he is caught surrounded by idiots, the biggest idiot of them all.
