We need to ban Assault Mechs and Double Heat Sinks in the Inner Sphere. Nobody needs a 100-ton death machine for planetary defense. Why do you even need to have so much cooling just to fight pirates? No one needs to chain fire ER PPCs unless you think the pirates are running Ferro-Fibrous armor. If you think you need to have Mechs to take on the Clans? You need Assault Dropships and maybe some WarShips.
I know what you're doing, and its amusing, but considering how extensively militarized every border of the Inner Sphere's nations the only thing that will take to convince anyone to get them to agree to an demilitarization effort is the aftermath of truly apocalyptic scale like the Jihad
Even then, no. Spite runs as deep as blood and money in the inner sphere, even the clans refuse to bend over and give up. Disarming not just one nation, but an entire fucking galaxy of people who rely on war not just for stability and independence, but as a funking sport, way of life, means of living, driver of economy and religious writ, only the truly retarded could ever believe that 'gun bad' could ever work in this hell hole of a universe, and that's why I fucking love it.

Do we have to do this dance again?
Despite being a psychopatic rapist and manchild, Caleb was probably more competent as Fist Prince than Harrison or Yvonne, as sad as that is.
One of the few things Dark Age - > IlClan did right is that the Clan tech advantage is essentially dead. Everyone notable can build Clanspec gear by the mid-3100's. "Standard" spec gear is still around just because it's so much cheaper to build and operate than the finnicky hyper-tuned Clanspec stuff.
Also, Alaric fucked up and is laible to find out. The problem with the big chair on Terra is that it's ultimately meaningless and just paints a giant target on your back.
>as Fist Prince
he certainly fisted that Danai bitch well and good
>than Harrison or Yvonne
it's called BATTLEtech not PEACEtech, the narrative is always slanted against leaders whose positives lie in more civic functions
Harrison was jsut straight up an idiot, though. Concentrating on civics is one thing. Him refusing to re-arm as things started going downhill was idiotic. And him literally trying to bury evidence that the Cappellans were secretly rearming, even from his own military, was downright criminally incompetent.
IT SEEM MY SUPERIORITY HAS LED TO SOME CONTROVERSY.

Kek, the only thing Taurians are good at is dropping nukes on civilians.
>the only thing Taurians are good at is dropping nukes on Davion civilians.
Wtf I love Taurians now
LMAO, they've nuked more of their own people than Davions. Fuck, Amaris is the only contender for having nuked more of his own populations.
>their own people
>in Davion space
Uhhhhhhh
all of davion space is RIGHTFUL TAURIAN CLAY
only COPEpellians are as sad a case as the... blake forgive me so uttering such filth, davions. only the clans matches them in butthurt and stinky crotches from using hood walmart bathrooms. .
clans won
now how long will Wolf last before they go out like the republic?
They'll last forever because Wolves are Mary Sues.
Haven't kept up with the lore, have we, anon?
Wolves are getting set to rape the Capellans and Marik. They are going to fully legitimize IlClan within the context of the IS, the only question is how. My bet is by forcing the one of the Cappies or Marik princesses to marry Alaric after getting their military wrecked.
Also, regarding your picrel, its always funny ISfags forgetting that said phone company was 100% fine being the Clanners concentration camp guards until they learned Terra was at stake.
>now how long will Wolf last before they go out like the republic?
LMAO new cope just dropped.

Gauss is really the only interesting ballistic option but the BV is absolutely ruinous to run them.
I hate the clans in general and Clan Wolf in particular. The fact that they're overly favoured in painfully obvious, super duper soldiers who never have any problems fighting against empires with much larger industrial bases and populations, they aren't crippled by revolts despite their retarded behaviour and are always technologically two steps ahead of the inner sphere. And then you have Clan Wolf whose whole schtick is being the clan who don't act retarded and do nothing wrong and they also capture Terra and become ilclan.
ASSMAD gay, lmao. You know canonically the Wolves have finally claimed Terra and now rule the galaxy? Cope and seethe.
Duh? I mentioned that in my post retard.
I need heavy gauss rifles and naval rail guns to defend myself from the Capellans I am walking towards at 20mph.
Only once all Capellans are dead can we talk about disarmament.
If you're going to go heavy at least get Improved Heavy Gauss, improved all ranged performance for just a little bit of damage loss.
this is the best critique of my.... self defense plans I have read all month.
You have to deal with some extra tonnage because they're beefy as hell but I can tell you from a guy who strapped a pair of them on a Stone Rhino its worth it. 22 damage a shot is just ruinous.
I use the Highlander to land on clan lights for cultural reasons. You wouldn't understand.

They're premium infantry mulchers and good critfishers when they're not turning people and BA into paste.
Every home needs an AWS-8Q libcuck
Counter offer, Everyone should have a Stalker 8S.
8T, ftfy bro.
AWS-9Q but you’re right
How retarded are IS scientists to make larger fusion engines less efficient? Logically the power/wt ratio should increase as engines get larger for fusion power.
The true answer? BALANCE. If you go by pure scientific principles Mechs are completely impossible, but the real limit to firepower wouldn't be tonnage or heat, but POWER. Somehow the "weakest" fusion reactor outputs the same energy for weapons as the most powerful. The only difference is the top speed of the mech.
I was about to say something about how planes would wreck mechs but then I remembered that I chewed through hundreds of attack choppers and heavy VTOL aircraft while playing MW5, so I guess planes wouldn't do much.
On tabletop mechs get a very good BTH against an aerospace fighter that just strafed them. You have a very high chance of shooting them down, but only if you're the mech being strafed.
VTOLS get a similar defensive BTH as a hovercraft or combat vehicle that moved the same number of hexes, meaning they're slippery, but anybody in range has the same chances of hitting.
Both VTOLs and ASF have an unforgiving critical hit table, so they can be forced to crash even if their armor survived. Through armor crits is actually a big thing that keeps battletech interesting. TAC gyro, engine, track, turret or rotor hit and suddenly strategy needs to change to compensate for lost mobility, excess heat or whatever. Also why battletech is best played at the lance to company scope so the loss of a single unit isn't game ending.
The argument of why I like TAC is it makes super units less reliable because any hit, no matter how small could be a game-changing critical. The most famous example that happened during a convention was a damaged infantry platoon armed with simple rifles managed to shoot down a two thousand ton spheriod dropship. Without TAC it is a "minus one armor point" hit.
They do still do a pretty decent job of hunting mechs if they've got room to manuever and no flak/LBX/massed LRMs to ruin their day. The ability to consistently point lots of guns at rear armor makes them a pretty existential threat, and the ability to quickly close within LRM minimum range lets them chew up artillery units.
Bombers also allow for massive alpha strikes and Inferno Bombs are amazing versus vehicles.
The big caveat is that just about any damage forces a piloting roll with risk of immediate death via crash, so if they do take a lot of fire they have a really bad time.
>a very good BTH
What's that?
Bonus to hit.
Base-to-Hit. It's what you need to roll with 2D6 in order to hit the target.
Originally, it was the number that you got prior to adding in certain modifiers like the attacker's gunnery skill (hence, "base" to-hit), kinda like THAC0 isn't the final to-hit number, but players immediately began using it to mean the final number because it just made more sense to do it that way.
the final number is called THN, for To-Hit Number
in nearly two decades of CBT I've never heard players use the acronym "BTH"
"BTH" has been around at least since the MUSH/MUX days back in the mid '90s, and was in common usage on rec.arts.mecha as well. If you only ever played TT and never went online, I guess it's possible that you missed it.

Retard-tier take, do you know how many industrial applications those things are used in? We should ban myomer while we're at it because assault mechs have those too. Sorry Billy, the peacenik thinks his imaginary safeguard against something he 99% wouldn't encounter anyways is more important then you having arms.
Probably a Outworlds Alliance peacenik who managed to acquire a noteputer and waste HPG bandwidth before he could be exiled for "staining themselves through evil technology".

Uh, sir, I've got house Steiner on comline 3. They sent an HPG message about 30 seconds ago from 254 systems away, claiming they "heard someone talk some absolute bullshit, and want to know where he is so we can show him what's good."
We also, somehow, found an Atlas lance on our moon. We have no idea how they got there. They are currently standing in a line, looking toward our palace, tidally locked with the rotation of our planet. Unmoving.
>oh
shut the fuck up stonertard, did mechwarriors fuck your mum?

Yes. Bondsmen can be taken by or assigned to by Elementals.
>use
Really anything, but the Clans DO have a strict code of conduct dealing with bondsmen, so there aren't many cases of struggle snuggles or outright abuse.
Always remember, it's not a war crime of it's being committed on a Capellan
I always go for headshots.
Life in the Inner Sphere does things to a man
I wish there was a game like HBS battletech but without the terrible performance and load times.
HBS BT is a fun game but holy shit whoever was in charge of making sure that game ran well needs to be shot. And I won't accept 'because Unity" is the reason, I've seen plenty of well performing Unity engine based games, HBS' BT game is entirely on the code wranglers.
Even MW5 behaved better (if only a bit) than HBS's Battletech.
my brother has the highest spec PC you can assemble without corporate prototype parts. you can buy a good civic for what it cost.
BT 2018 still runs like absolute dogshit on his computer and freezes if theres fire in a city and he long toms a nuke. he had enough time to go and make some white castles in the microwave before it unfucked itself.
trufax. vanilla runs like a thalidomide flipper baby.
in the beginning they were like 250 steps ahead technologically.
Don't forget that BT bricked GPUs on release.
doesnt surprise me at all. that game is fun but holy fuck its an unoptimized pile of shit.
AI HAS NO KNOCKDOWN, KNOWNBACK, OR RECOIL. THEY SPIT RAILGUNS LIKE LIGHT LASERS.
>AN 85 YEAR OLD CLANNER WOMAN LOOKS LIKE THAT?
>I'D LIKE TO GIVE HER MY BATCHALL
>in the beginning they were like 250 steps ahead technologically.
Only because IS lost tech. If anything the IS should have better tech since they're not a retarded race of warriors relying on a caste of scientists who hate their masters and even tried to rebel.
Are you retarded? The clans are technologically more advanced because while the IS was having succession wars for 200 literal years, losing their industrial bases and technology, the clans weren't. They left the IS with all the most advanced tech, didn't lose it, and continued to develop it in a stable region of space where wars were limited by their autistic honor code. The clans were 200 years ahead, and though the IS caught up fast via reverse engineering, the IS still doesn't have the stable home systems that the clans came from. So even in the dark ages, the bulk of the clans are still sitting pretty somewhere else. They don't have to worry about Comstar, they don't have to worry about anti technology religions. The clans are fine, while the IS is doomed.
>Wars of Reaving didn't happen
Ok clanner
Whatever you say clanner
The big difference is that because (what would eventually be) Clanner space is/was barely inhabited and resources scarce they were always more bent to capture strategic assets like factories and research labs. The SLDF knew they couldn't replace anything they lost even as they fought internally.
In the Inner Sphere the Great Houses intrinsically know they can't realistically take and hold such things so they'll instead destroy each others' to deny their use. This is exactly what happened in the first and second succession wars, especially regarding WarShips. Eventually all of the high-powered assets (their WarShips) the successor states had were attritted down and they could slowly rediscover Lostech like ECMs and gauss rifles. once they were reformed into Clans the threat of losing institutional knowledge largely ended since all conflicts were to be settled by ritual combat. Not only that, but one clan wasn't likely to maintain a tech advantage over the others for long, by the same rites.
The guy who would create the Clans left before the succession wars started, no?
Yeah but that was Kerensky Jr that founded the clans
His dad led them out then died not long after they arrived
because jr was a turbo gay ptsd child soldier who murdered his father's best friend.
Did they changed something? I thought De Chavalier got killed by Cappies?
The clans moved to bumfuck nowhere. If the US military took every piece of military equipment they had and moved to Antarctica while the rest of the world was stuck in centuries of endemic warfare comparable to WW2 who would be better off after centuries? The random fucking soldiers who had to build their industrial base from scratch or the nations who didn't have all the best shit but actually had preexisting research firms and factories?
you meant the german military right?
The entire German military didn't leave though, some surrendered to the allies to sell the illusion.
they were the real heroes.
>actually had preexisting research firms and factories
I think the point is that the spent most of the next few hundred years blowing up said research firms and factories.
I've tried it on my rendering rig (7950x, 4090) and somehow it still ran like shit.
thats more of a time problem. need to restart the game after 2ish hours, else the memory leaks eat you

Things like this are why blue shield dampers were invented. There's nothing quite like watching a PPC hit as hard as a medium laser.
>armor types/defense systems
I'd like to see something other than reactive armor for autocannon rounds maybe a M1A2 style depleted uranium mesh that defeats 50% of autocannon damage, on the flipside of being HEAVY AS FUCK and giving your pilots and Mechtechs cancer when it gets vaporized by energy weapons fire.
Isn't that basically hardened armor?
>Lampert Carbine
>those thighs
Someone has some patrician tastes.
Kinda not really, hardened armor is more for AP rounds (how the fuck those aren't standard issue) tandem warheads and mech tasers. They also make crits hard as fuck to get.
>punches right through bullshit damper
>W-W-WHAT IS THIS MAGIC...?!
it is called the "Nova Cat A"
nothing personnel, freebirth
>not flamers
Honestly the flamer should be a weapon that causes every other mech drop what they're doing to shoot them into component molecules if the lore is to be accepted at face value. The flamer would either be a near 40k melta or little more than a glorified blowtorch, which feeds into why hasn't the Capellans developed a improved flamer or a ammo less plasma rifle. A plasma spewing weapon shouldn't just dump heat into a battlemech it should turn it into a puddle of slag in a few seconds.
>be a poorfag governor

and to add to that, ALL COPE-PELLAN SPACE IS RIGHTFUL TAURIAN CLAY. ALL THE INNER SPHERE IS TOO.
Not soon enough.

>The drugs kicked in about a week ago on an archaeological dig, and the fucking Lady of the Lake showed you a mech that's older than your entire society. It's a Royal Black Knight, and it's yours now. It's comfy as fuck because the SLDF actually cared about comfort. Fuck Omnimechs, you don't need 'em.
>You took it to the range to show off to your Nova Cat buddy. It shoots just as good as his fancy Shadow Cat - you two like to fuck around with trick shots. He bets you that you can't style on the Huntress garrison with a mech that's so outdated. Fuck him, you've been eyeing off some of the Jag relics anyway. They belong in your museum!
>So you take another sip of SCORPION VENOM, and next thing you know you're taking on a goddamn Thresher or some shit. Doesn't matter, unlike this screaming furry idiot your clan remembers when it was the SLDF and has a basic grasp of tactics. You pop his cockpit and take his fancy knife.
>"THANKS FOR THE GIFT, BATTLE BROTHER!"
>And then you wake up in a rusty hunk at the bottom of a once-flooded quarry with a nosebleed, clutching a twisted, tarnished aluminum plate that has three-fourths of the serial number for a 400 year old Black Knight that probably got its head blown open around this area and realize that it was all a dream. Except for the drugs part, that definitely happened. And at least some of the black knight stuff, even though you know that it died over a century before the royal variant even existed. And maybe the Cat, although you're not sure a fellow clanner would have left actual cat hair in your mouth.
>And then you snap out of it in your bunk and realize you've been staring at a picture of Joseph "the Black Knight" Tsukuba, who only got that nickname because the yokels on the first planet he went to as part of the Gunslinger program had never seen a Black before, and you're in orbit because his Galahad might still be here. Better take the rest of your drugs before the descent, wouldn't want to wake up early.
why are PrepHole battletech threads better then /tg/'s?
because PrepHole likes fun and /tg/ hates it.
/tg/ is autism the board and battletech is among the most spergy /tg/s a sperg with a few dollars can get into easy.
>t. just got into recently like a month ago and now I have like 50 minis send help.
what is PrepHoles opinion of the Rasalhague Dominion, non-canon made up units and Gunzburg?
pic related, a wip unit, totaling about 20 minis that im working on now that I'm calling the Gunzburg Lanzknecht, with them being an ad hoc free company nominally loyal to the dominion/clan ghost bear using clan and sphere mechs with a somewhat garish flashy paint scheme.
What's the mech on the right? It reminds me a lot of the Vapor Eagle (one of my favorites in MWO) but it's not quite right.
I can tell the other two are the Adder and Shadow Hawk, of course.
Right is Phoenix Hawk, Center is Shadow Hawk, but left is Nova, not Star Adder.
I should retake these pictures they are from a couple weeks ago, and I have improved them since, they're still not done, cus Im shit at painting and slow, but they do look better now.
>BT minis
>taken on potato
peak soul. Good shit, anon.
>Shadow Hawk
Oh, duh. I always forget that 'mech exists. I don't care much for them- they always feel underarmed in mechwarrior games.
>I also mixed up Star Adder and Nova
In my defense there's a whole series of Clan Mechs that basically look like scaled up/down versions of each other.
I mean I only know what they are cus I have the cards on hand and have been playing lately with my Brother in law and 2 nephews.
this is what I have painted right now, my older nephew, who lives with me, and I just bought another ~35ish minis which came in the mail today, he's over at a friends house now, when he gets back later were going to points draft them.
Crazy dude also bought a star of elementals, cus he wants the "challenge" of painting 25 little 7mm tall nerds.
i raise you some mercs also that alpha strike box has some pretty good mechs in it
yeah this all started when my brother in law got me and my nephew the Alpha strike starter and the Similar Battletech starter, with like 23 mechs between them, after we had a long conversation about tabletop games in his car while going somewhere, the next time we visited my sister/BiL he just produces these two boxes and was like "here I got you these", he's a doctor and has loadsamone
one of those had a $20 off coupon for catalyst so we checked out what they had and bought an Adhoc star for $17 shipped. Then found out fortress miniatures was having a big sale, and 9 boxes of minis later here we are.
I like that black knight, just got a couple of them in the box we order, I ususally go for the squat non-humanoid mechs over the "big dude" ones, but he's an exception.
because /btg/ is full of nogunz gay newbies, and NEA doesn't post much any more
Because /tg/ are nofunz nofuns? And they're more focused on bullshit builds than lore or memes?
are they? they shounted down an autist today for making shitty customs
>shitty
As in "not gud" or "completely fucking rules lawyer broken"?
just bad mechs like 2/3/1 mediums that have 2 ac5s as their only weapons
>/2/3/1
>medium
>two AC5
What the fuck did they just stuff it full of ammo, armor, and heatsinks for giggles? Did he pick a fuel cell for the engine because holy fuck that's like Urbanmech speeds.
pretty much its just an attention whore i think but idk it is PrepHole after all
where?
probably because it's NiceDaemonette, that fuckface is still shitting up /btg/ last I checked
thats him
then he deserves to be shot and put out of his misery, not just shouted down
/tg/ focuses on the game. PrepHole focuses on the worldbuilding and lore.
They are still better than /m/, I tried to start threads there but it was pointless, nowadays the only reason I visit /m/ is for the symphogear general, Symphogear is the best mahou shoujo show in the same way battletech is the best mech franchise, by finding that sweet spot between taking itself seriously enough but never forgetting to be retardedly funny. (Obviously Madoka is 40k).
Wait are there actually people who willing play as space china?
some people REALLY like the raven.
I love the fed suns but I will give it to the cappies, They know how to make a good mech once in a while.
>some people REALLY like the raven.
thats me.
I steal them from the c*ppelans
t FWLeaguer
The annoying thing about Cappellans is that they have a few cool 'mechs.
>Raven
>Highlander (they didn't design that one but they have the last factory)
>Gun
Not the cataphract though, that thing is legitimately shit, though not as shit as the Vindicator.
Prigo appears in BT. What merc company would he lead?
blackhearts
I take that back he would be in McCarron's Armored Cavalry
McCarren's Armored Calvary.
>aggressive
>war crimes out the ass
>backstabbing assholes
The really bizarre thing is that I'm relatively certain tat there's like, several different Merc Companies in BT's official fiction that starts with the phrase 'and after a series of successful (non military) business ventures, proceeded to found his own Merc Company'
I sadly cannot bring up any immediately but after reading countless dozens TROs, field manuals, and spotlights I feel like Proggy's rise to being head of a major PMC is incredibly normal in BT's universe.
its kind of bland for BT really.
Waco Rangers
Smithson's Chinese Bandits
Tiger Sharks
hear me out nigglets, 200 ton mech! Quad heat sinks!!!
I got 25 of the little Elemental battle suit nerds, any advice on how the hell to prime these little bastards? Preferably without drowning them and covering all the details.
The Companies + Little shits in question
very lightly with rattlecan no washes when you paint though washes will flood the mini
ok draft completed and now it is time to paint minis forever and ever
Nein
So let me get this straight.
Steiner = Germans
Davion = Americans
Liao = China/Russia
Kurita = Japan
What does that make Marik?
Yugoslavia?
Reading their bits I'd say the are supposed to be late stage British empire, they are parlimentary republic, use words like commonwealth Pic related official art of Marik Parliament
"According to the Treaty of Marik, Parliament was the supreme governing body of the Free Worlds League. Parliament had the power to pass laws, create taxes, and decide on appropriations. In each two-year session, Parliament elected a Speaker, who then appointed Ministers to oversee the nine federal agencies: Communications, Defense, Energy, Foreign Affairs, Human Services, Intelligence, Justice, Taxation and Trade. These appointments also had to be ratified by Parliament, though compared to the fights over the Speakership many of these votes were perfunctory. The Speaker and nine Ministers formed the League Council, which enjoyed broad customary powers. Although any MP could introduce any bill, tradition dictated that only the League Council introduce treaties, budget proposals, and tariff bills. Additionally, League Council members were guaranteed a hearing by Parliament and so their proposals were more likely to be voted on. Per the Act of Incorporation, at least one of the nine Ministers had to come from each of the three founding League provinces, which itself often served as a source of conflict.[5]
After the Charter of Incorporation was put into effect in 3139, the number of MPs was reduced to a single MP per planet rather than being determined by taxes.[6]
In addition to the main Parliamentary body, the League also had the Lords of the Realm, a body composed of nobles who were at least planetary rulers. This body functioned in an advisory role to Parliament and could not vote. The Lords were not paid for their service, so few choose to actually attend any given session. Nonetheless, the prominence of the members and their presence at court ensured the Lords were given more media attention than the importance that the body merited."
All sounds very bri'ish to me.
According to Housebook: House Marik, the Marik family are Czechs, who emigrated to England following the Nazi annexation, so pretty close.
Whats up with all the Czech stuff in Battletech anyway? It is kinda funny to see Marik (Mařík, actually, which is rather cute surname) or stuff like Satalice and shit.
t. Czechnyan
Btw Marik is supposed to be Austro-Hungary.
>What does that make Marik?
European Union NATO
Bear in mind the context in which BT was first conceived. It's the 80s. The Soviets are at the gates. Red Dawn premiered this year (GO WOLVERINES), Return of the Jedi last year. Neuromancer as well, and it's sweeping the scifi awards. What does the world look like?
You have:
>Kurita
the techno-samurai Japs who look set to conquer the cybernetic world and are bringing back uncomfortable memories of Pearl and Iwo
>Liao
because SOVIETS SOVIETS SOVIETS and oh yeah those Chinese are really bad with their One Child nonsense and looking to be a threat with this new Deng Xiao Ping fella (and soon comes Tiananmen Square, smack in the middle of the Warrior trilogy)
>Davion
Because AMERICA! FUCK YEAH!
but with a little dash of knightly high medieval shit because Weisman was an Arthurboo, and they're supposedly bong but they don't behave or speak like bongs at all, they're as (white Midwest) American as Little League and Mom's apple pie
>Steiner
Because everyone in the military and military-adjacent is talking about FULDA GAP FULDA GAP FULDA GAP BERLIN WALL BERLIN WALL and being stationed in Germany and the Bundeswehr are our gallant but incompetent allies and that's why we have to be over there too to hold their and against the Red Menace
>Marik
Because the other major economic power bloc in the world is the European Union, picrel, and it's made up of a bunch of miscellaneous countries banded together in this kinda-confederation of states but they're kinda always squabbling with one another and their military is this odd hodgepodge of units and they're supposed to be allies but can you really trust them it's complicated(tm)
now the various story arcs in BT should make sense to you. it's the AMERICAN DAVIONS! first fighting the Japs, then with the help of the bumbling Space Prussians fighting the Red, then allying with the Union, but with no enemies left here come the Clans, now these not-Muslim-jihadis...
>Davion
>American
Lol no.
Lol yes
They're Americans, of the AMERICA! FUCK YEAH! stripe, in all but lore
I thought they were more like England "RULE BRITANNIA" than AMERICAN
>not British/French knighthood tradition and nobility fuckery
Uhhhhhhh
>spess America
Taurian Concordat.
>independence
>nukes
>fuck the space UN

>Taurian Concordat
I think they're more like Israel...garden gnome Jokes aside. With how many wars both have had, persecution of people, and the whole freedom thing.
That or the American south during the Civil War
>spess Israel
They DO have a illuminati angle about them.
>kill Star League through covert fuckery
>founded ComStar
>worked with the WoB
>founded by refugees
>only state with a state church
huh, now that you mention a state church it makes me wonder why they've never included a state of muslims and sharia law. I guess it was just the author's and the 80's
how a bunch of soldiers could have ever thought that shit was a good idea is beyond me. gotta say that elementals and their power armor are probably the best things I like about the clans with how they just shred infantry.
>the 80's
>forgets Iran
Anon.
>spess Muslims
There is, or WAS.
>what happened to them
Draconis Combine. Turns out when you're conquered by people who like to decapitate people for disobedience than you do tends to keep your ass in line. Also there IS a "understanding" that if you serve the Coordinator with your mortal body your soul can serve your God(s) in the afterlife. Churches, Synagogues, and Mosques in the Draconis Combine are one of the very few places that don't have secret police or portraits of the Coordinator, in return these people tend to be some of the most fanatical defenders of the Combine.
america was the SL its gone taurians are Argentinians
You forgot that garden gnomes worship and blood-sacrifice to a bull god named Moloch. I think we're onto something here boys.
Nope
Davions just don't behave at all bongllike
It's like if you were watching Jap anime and the "Americans" are bowing and saying "oto-san" and "onee-chan" or whatever
18th 19th century British, not modern day "brits".
Still no
Davions are pure 20th century yank
>the faction with nobles, French and British unit names and compositions and constant crazy plans
>American
You can't be this stupid.
>nobles
Who don't act even like a budget Downton Abbey caricature, but are just full fat American with fancy names
>french
But aren't even 10% a Quebecois
>british
But talk and behave and think like 20th century Midwesterners
>compositions
Based on US WW2 practice
>constant crazy plans
Lmao
Not even
The least one could expect is for the writers to have watched some Dam Busters or Sink The Bismarck or Waterloo or fucking Henry V to get a vague idea of how to write a space bong
>nobles
>forgets the Secession Wars fuckery
>forgets Michael Hasek-Davion
>forgets most worlds are pastoral noble playgrounds
>modern AFFS composition
Bruh.
>crazy plans
Starting a war at your own wedding is some madlad tier shit, not Midwesterner thinking.
>most worlds are pastoral noble playgrounds
Only the supposed nobles never do anything noble with it
>modern AFFS composition
Irrelevant if it's modern or ancient, it's the primary difference between the AFFS and the SLDF and it's wholly and tellingly American
>madlad tier shit
Bong madlad shit is doing diplomatic shit and telegraphing your army buildup and trying to (ostensibly or earnestly) avert war, this is the tradition from the fucking Hundred Years War to the fucking Falklands
>Surprise! We unilaterally declared war completely out of the blue!
isn't in the british style at all
Bong madlad shit is having some kook commander come up with an insane plan to form special forces made up of his buddies and romp around the enemy rear area with it
It's all about ingenuity and perseverance
It's the yanks who'd do something like found a secret Institute of Science to develop a bunch of wunderwaffen to win the war with
>bongs
>avoid war
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>thinks in 20th century thought
Battletech is 17-18th century IN SPACE.
>t. historylet
you don't know shit
>avoid war
>conquered the world's largest empire
Pick one.
>implying I'm historylet and can't get basic facts right
Lol, lamo.
It's not WHAT they do it's HOW they do it, mongoloid
Americans are in-your-face WE GONNA INVADE YO ASS OORAH just like Davions
The British style is "don't invade that planet I have a trading post there and the local king is my second cousin twice removed oh noes you did I'm going to have to sail this armada over there to assert my rights"
>invade like Americans
You mean give like 40 ultimatums, delay as long as possible, and then declare war?
>stating the exact shit the Davions pulled throughout history
The fucking Capellans and Taurian Concordat are victims of EXACTLY THAT.
>ultimatums
lol
no sense of style
you'll never be a bong
>never be a br*t
Thank fuck, I'd literally slit my wrists with a spoon to get off that god-forsaken island.
>br*tish women
>br*tish food
>br*tish weather
All of those explain why you were so hell bent on conquering/exploring/trading with everything and everyone, because those things are a crime against God and man.
>doesn't know how to be a bong
>doesn't like bongs
>I'm historylet and can't get basic facts right
Precisely.
Now run along.
>is smug while being wrong about everything
100% British.
NTA, but parts of the culture and gun laws are the main reason I wouldn't want to live over there.
>brit women
there're enough NRIs, pakis, Poles, etc for my tastes
>brit food
a pint and some fish n chips sounds good most days tbh, not even mentioning the stuff they've stolen from everywhere
>brit weather
I loved the constant rain, great excuse to wear a different milsurp jacket each day of the week.
Roads sucked though. And honestly, I'd want to live up in scotland and attempt to contribute to the resurgence of Gaelic.
>gun laws
Suck dick. There are too many restrictions.
>muh mass shootings
It's totally because of guns.
>90% of murders happen in the 4 counties where blacks make up over 50% of the population
Totally.
>brit women
Generally speaking if they're not plus size they're not too fucked in the head
>a pint and some fish n chips sounds good most days
if it's a seaside town, otherwise it's meat pie and sausage rolls
>not even mentioning the stuff they've stolen from everywhere
London is unironically a food capital, ignore the memes
>I loved the constant rain
...
I draw the line there
>I'd want to live up in scotland
It's pretty nice
>contribute to the resurgence of Gaelic
there are a couple of okay blokes but they're mostly white gibsmedats now
moron, even stackpole said it was 17-18th century in space.
unfortunately, just because he says it is, doesn't mean it is
Stackpole can't write anything non-American for shit
I enjoyed Ghost War though. It's the one novel where his stupid Xanatos Gambits actually make a lick of sense
I'd like a series set in universe where some hayseed goes a travelin and sees the elephant. no big damn heroes, just a regular hick in the universe
>he still hasn't figured out the joke.
none of them are a pure block of just space nation x
it's just that the ruling family/most important worlds are from that flavor of space nation x
Is there a better all around medium than the Stormcrow/Ryoken?
NOPE
No, but it IS ClanHax so it doesn't count.
Behold. The Ryoken/Shadowkitty B hybrid. Maximum toob firepower w/ ECM, Jumps, and one giant beatoff arm for fisticuffs.
I like your crazy.
I've got a FanMech idea, from what I've seen with Troopermechs is that they always have "luxuries" like arms, which often serve little to no use for a bunch of additional costs in manufacturing and labor or jump jets.
>C&C Titan
It's both a placeholder and inspiration. The design philosophy is a combination of the Stalker and Urbanmech, that is a simple as possible design with a balanced warload and good mobility and survivability.
>Tercio TER-I0
>Medium 55 Tons
>Engine GE-200
>10 single heat sinks
>AC/10
>Machine Gun
>2 Medium Lasers
>SRM-2
>manufacturer Taurian Concordat
The loss of multiple Battlemech plants during the Jihad was a crippling loss to Taurian pride and industry, with the Reunification of Taurian Concordat and the Calderon Protectorate the chance to turn tragedy to opportunity. The Tercio takes its namesake from the Spanish 16th century battle doctrine, with densely packed formations known for their defensive capabilities and their utility as line troops.
As such this native design is focused first and foremost on easy production, durability, and maintenance. The lack of arms and limited torso twist keep costs down and allow far more armor to be put on the torso, enhancing survivability. This mech is also a symbol of the Taurian Concordat, a promise of their endurance, of their willingness to defend their people, and their creativity.
Am I the only one who likes Capellans? I also enjoy Dark Eldar and Cryx. Maybe I just don't bother pretending to be the good guys
The Capellans have some appeal, as they manage to hold out against larger powers even though their fucktarded leadership and blatant author fiat that their opponents get. The Capellans are actually a underdog, rather than a full on villain.
>actual villains
ComStar/WOB
Clans
Lyran Alliance
Draconis Combine
An interesting introduction to the nuances of the Inner sphere and why everyone hates Davion. I found it nearly a repeat of the guide for Taurians though.
lies. the TC version just says LOOK AT THEM, NUKE THEM AND LAUGH. FUCK THE IS, FUCK THE PHONE COMPANY, FUCK THE CLANNERS, FUCK JANNIES, FUCK PIRATES, AND FUCK THE CAPELLANS THE MOST.
>t. Davion saboteur trying to divide us from our greatest allies
The Trinity Alliance will put an end to unprovoked Davion aggression
Seeing this and the mental image of the Capellans using a Taurian Concordat boot to kick the FedSuns in the balls and I can't unsee it.
I don't know much about the Battletech universe, but isn't everything heavily restricted in that universe, to the point of mechs being used for ritualized warfare? As in, they can't use nukes and other weapons they are actually effective, so they pit small squads of mechs against each other like a bunch of retards?
Also, the games love to restrict your tonnage in those tiny battles, but I don't know if this is lore friendly, or just a game mechanic.
Nothing is restricted and chemical and biological weapons being used on the battlefield is common place. Not to mention that nukes are seldom used because, well if you're fighting for something you typically want to keep it and not want it to be an irradiated hellscape
Like I said, I don't know much about the Battletech universe (only played the late 90s/early 2000s games, and read some wikis), but I do know nukes are shunned. From what I recall, they were considered too destructive after everyone nuked everyone, and using one in the current setting basically makes you a pariah and will result in everyone dogpiling you.
Balancing sucks. I understand why it's needed in games, both in digital and tabletop, but it fucking sucks, because it sucks the soul out of everything. Not related to anything we're discussing, but it still sucks.
That's Clans fighting Clans. Because they're extreme furry clone autists.
tonnage restriction is a game mechanic, actual tabletop uses BV scoring, which measures combat effectiveness by an arbitrary metric
in tabletop, an 80 ton charger has the armor of a heavy mech (60-75 aka mediocre but not unheard of for its time) with the speed of a medium (5/8 tiles per move, fast for a heavy, near impossible for a 80-100 assault), but since it has only 5 small lasers and mech fu for damage, it has a BV of 900ish
meanwhile a shadowhawk, a bog-standard medium that has far more damage, the same movement+jump jets, and is far cheaper to buy, has a similar value of BV in the 900 range
i wish a battletech game actually tried to balance around BV vs tonnage but it seems a lot harder and more constrictive than simply using tonnage
There are balances around that, but they're for campaigns instead of individual battles. You can balance around c bills if you want, but certain tech gets prohibitively expensive real quick.
>i wish a battletech game actually tried to balance around BV vs tonnage
Anon, I...
People have been using BV and tonnage balance since before 9/11
Only filthy casuals don't BV balance
>BV
If you know what you're doing you can do some absolute power moves.
>hovercraft spam
i meant in vidya
after nuking factories willy nilly in early wars and realizing they couldn't replace them, everyone did step back on the total war doctrine for a time
Steiner are the good guys right?
lolno, not even with Vic running things.
TC is the least worst bunch.
Rasalhague seems like a good bunch if you can get past their Swedenese jibberish. Too bad they barely existed at all as a rump state before fighting for their life against Cl*nners and breeding with them.
No.
t purple pigeon
clans are the good guys
Canopians or the Taurians
Regulans are the good guys
>that Warhammer(I fucking know what it really is)firing it's PPC's that fast
Man that thing's fusion reactor is going to actually Stackpole if the heat sinks don't become fusion reactors themselves.
>Unseen
I think that the redesigns are actually BETTER than the original source material, especially for the Maurader.
>especially for the Maurader.
shut your whore mouth
You know it's true.
Yes. On a artic/water map you can 420 blaze it as long you don't go too deep.
You're a goddamn lie is what you are. I would've MAYBE forgiven you if you posted the cgl redesign but now you sealed your fate by even implying the piggy design is good.
>cgl
Their artwork is SHIT.
They gave the Stormcrow LARGE HANDS. What the fuck are they on.
>those hands
FUCKING WHY
Because they're stupid and show the Clans completely forgot what melee is for.
>clanners hate melee
>love high tech bullshit
Go full weeb and have rocket fists.
'ate clanners
luv me axe
luv me sphere
luv me federation
'ate Kurita
not racist just don't 'loik em
'ate Liao FOKIN SHITS
Looks better with bigger hands IMO tiny hands look absurd. Several of my mini have tiny baby hands and I wish they just had little gripper claws instead.
Indeed it is but it's better than whatever pgi vomits up.
Things a monster thanks to it's narrow profile causing every other hit to be a glancing blow reducing damage to it's already high armor.
>thinking that dinky ass turret is good
>thinking that cockpit looks good
>those cankels
yes I enjoy being objectively correct 100% of the time.
go back to /tg/ where you belong
THAT THING IS FUCKING UGLY!
Can that thing take a lot of hits or naw?
the Marauder deserves better than either of them.
Is it true that some mechs park themselves in lakes basically waste high so they can just keep non-stop firing?
Yeah. Its a notorious lore tidbit that Thunderbolts are defacto amphibious mechs because they have shit passive heat management, once they can submerge half their body in water they become like twice as dangerous.
You dishonor The Dragon.
What about Katrina Steiner though?
I understand she has an in universe adult actress lookalike.
Damn, is that a cannon picture of her? She is fucking gorgeous...
they're porning the mechs now? i knew it was time to quit.
>Arguing about which Marauder looks better
>when clearly the answer is Nightstar is the best looking Marauder
Nightstars are boring though.
Any mech with a maximum speed of 46km/h or less is boring.
gay little monkey hands
Are the Diamond Sharks a reliable source of weapons?
>reliable
Yeah, but don't even think- no don't even BELIEVE it possible to try and rip them off or rob them, because at best you'll lose your source of dietclan stuff, at worst you'll have the friendly neighborhood Elementals work you over with baseball bats.
>why yes I got 80% of my flesh removed and wired into my mech in the name of blake how could you tell
Someone post the green mascot suit picture. The one that says ,”You dare to refuse my batchall?”
this one?
No, it’s a guy dressed like a bird, making an exceedingly confrontational gesture
This one?
heh
I made that
Yes!
I realized that guy dressed like a bird, making an exceedingly confrontational gesture is almost exactly the picture you posted
thank you i fucking love it
glad you liked it!
I made it approximately this far into the battletech cartoon before I lost my sides and turned it off to prevent internal organ damage.
>in canon he ACTUALLY DID THIS
The Battletech cartoon is a in universe cartoon show and Star Colonel Nicholas Malthus got so fucking buttmad he took the production team to court, and THEN TRIED TO BATCHALL BOTH THEM AND THE JUDGE WHILE WEARING THE JADE FALCON TOTEM. So this guy, while losing in a bird costume loses his shit so much tries to duel both the defense and the judge in a fucking bird costume.
Thatll teach em to disregard a mahfucka batchall
He ended up in gay baby jail for contempt of court.
Can some Clan Loremaster give me a quick rundown on the major 'protagonists' in the current Battletech era? It's been a while since I checked the lore, but Hazen is dead, right? Who's the main baddy now?
>AC fags get what is possibly a contender for game of the year in terms of scope, depth, fun and replayability
>we're getting a 10 mission, 30 dollar dlc with one mech
>set in the fucking draconic combine
mechwarrior bros, it's getting dark...
You have mods that add like 500 mech variants and give the mech loadout system many more layers of depth. It's not so bad.
Fuck you OP
I heard this was the mech they're adding for the DLC. It looks cool, but from what I've seen of the specs, it's a worse missile boat than the catapult or the stalker. I hope they spruce it up a bit by giving it AMS or something.
>Longbow
>worse than the Catapult
A Catapult is 20 tons lighter, but it's also a medium ranged brawler as opposed to a proper long range fire support mech.
You can put MLs on a Longbow too, it's just that it's not optimal to use it as a brawler
There's a longbow that replaces all the weapons with a large number of rocket launchers and a couple PPCs, another one that just has two UAC/20s and a couple of lasers, and a couple more variants that use MMLs, which means they can fire dozens of SRMs at a time, in addition to LRMs.
