I don’t think the modern American mind is truly capable of comprehending something like a steampowered submarine.

I'll admit I have trouble comprehending how you came to that conclusion. Ever hear of Jules Verne? 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea? We have. Got Steampunk horseshit all over the place, too. Are you being moronic on purpose?

Submarines always emerged to fight until late WW2 XXI types

But why? They had harpoons and couldn't cannonballs still work under water?

The bad guys were in those submarines.

Imagine how bad it reeked in there.
No one had deodorant, piss poor ventilation, zero climate control, plus the heat from the steam engine blasting at all times.
I reckon it stunk to high heaven.

Nobody gave a frick back then. From the dawn of mankind until like the 80s people were unwashed, reeking, filthy animals with zero regard for their smell. Imagine an entire planet of Indian people.

Because the South created the first sub to sink an enemy ship(though it was destroyed in the process). That would contradict the running narrative of the South being backwards inbreds and nothing else. Same as the Confederate army all being given copies of Les Miserables to read during their campaigns.

Civil war movies would only be made to serve propaganda purposes for the Union government, trying to make something too realistic and detailed might humanize the Confederate side which is no good I mean we still trying to get rid of Southern culture by taking down the old confed statues we don't need shit like that to add onto it.

were these actually submarines or just ironclads?

      Anonymous

Those are ironclads, but the Hunley did exist and did get one ship. Of course, right after that it sunk into the deep and was not recovered for a hundred years, and it killed 21 men to get to that point, so there really isn't a place for it as a whole movie.

If anything, this would make the Confederate Navy seem more moronic and neglectfully incompetent than it already was.

Hence why submarines weren't used or heavily produced during the time still an amazing leap in technology

right, because if you went under the water it would all go down the chimney and put the fire out

That's what actually happened. The Monitor wasn't sea worthy because of its low profile and accidentally and unintentionally submerged. There's a reason why nobody used this ship shape again.

AKSHUALLY, a lot of european monitors used a similar design because they were designed as river patrol boats, so having a minimal deck structure let then get a crazy draught of like 4 feet

      actuality it is though

  10. 1 week ago

Because it would be a slow paced movie and when they finally do get to the action the war has ended or the crew suddenly drowned. Also your pic isn't even a submarine it's just the heavily armoured ships they had, in one battle where both sides face each other with those same ships they couldn't sunk one another

those aren't submarines they're ironclads, and they're kino.
but the actual submarine that the south built is also very based
