Much like a ? is an ear with an dangling earing implying that the person is listening for a response, k is a drawing of an ak. I thought everybody knew these fun facts. They're a diamond dozen.
Moot claimed /k/ meant /k/illing, /k/usanagi, and some other shit at some point. It never meant /k/alashnikov, even in jest. Practically, it was probably just an open letter without thought.
I guess it ended being /k/ because at some point it was the next unused letter of the alphabet.
I guess /w/ (for weapon) was out because that was already the wallpapers forum; and PrepHole (for "gun") was out because that was already the technology forum. (Which raises an obvious question, why wasn't the technology forum called /tech/?)
Asking the REAL questions.
hey bros who is this moot fella?
We know it's you, Chris. Did israeliteGLE give you a good severance package?

>op gives us a long awaited answer, delivered by advanced web scouring AI models
>nono thats wrong some guy like forever ago said something else!!
Would the AI consider "there's no real reason" to even be a valid answer?
Everything has a reason.
It was always /k/engeki 剣戟.
All of the boards introduced at that time kept the same letter abbreviations of their equivalents over at 2ch.
I thought the closest board on 2ch at the time was keisatsu/police?
Weapons play got split into the police and army boards
I thought it was katana
STFU dog of the shogunate /k/ obviously got its name from the og peasant weapon - kama
Twin kama monk ftw
Where did you find that? Just curious who decided this and where the nulore is being disseminated.

technolo gee why wouldn't they name it that?
If I remember correctly, PrepHole is short for gijutsu (技術)
