The strategic advantage is that they're able to take a city with thousands of NATO trained and mercenary troops while dealing a hige blow in the enemy's morale and changing the tide of the war, you're welcome.

Thanks mate, saving that collage for future use.

But yeah, I've said this many times; The Bakhmut line was an ad hoc defensive line meant to drain the momentum of the Russian army before they reached the Kramatorsk line that was been prepared since March.

Instead, while we all anticipated that the Lychychanks return would continue until the Siversk was reached, Russia stalled 2 weeks later, and now we are here where Bakhmut and Soledar have held out for such an ungodly time past their originally understood expiry date that half the fricking public forgot they were temporary defenses to begin with, on which the Russians stalled for such a long fricking time that it became a reinforced defensive line pretty much by virtue of subsequent rotations adding their own layer to the defenses

More than 2/3rd are still training in Russia and Belarus, the rest was used to fill the gaps in the line, that's why Ukraine have been unable to make new offensives, and if i remember correctly they didn't reach 300k, more like 230k, lets wait and see if they call another batch like the ukros said, but i think it's unlikely unless in a full blown war against the west.

it’s between 35 and 40 millions for Ukraine depending on what territories you count and the nupber of refugees in EU.
And 143 millions for Russia, minus a million or 2 that left the country.
Roughly 4 times more russians than ukrainians.

In fact it's a strategy that doesn't make sense, and you are going to see the results very soon, other than having already caused General Armaggeddon to get sacked for the obscene casualties.

Yes, lets ignore the fact that russia has a bloated military themselves and are rounding up people from prisons and other areas of russia to fight the war. Lets ignore the fact that there's actual videos of them utilizing human wave tactics. Your logic doesn't make sense because while there are heavy casualties for the Ukrainians, the russians have the same or higher casualties according to multiple sources. Even if that is true, it doesn't look good for the invaders because the invaders is not supposed to have casualties 1:1 against the defenders if they want to ve successful. Showing Ukrainians have the time to maje proper graves doesn't look that good either because they at least have the resources to make graves. What the russians do to their dead? They just leave them there or in piles of corpses.

You think like a moronic vatnik that's why. Russia has no defence in depth, or layered, or rotating troops. Ukraine has all those 3, on most of their fronts, ESPECIALLY on the side that's been reinforced for 8 years. Bakhmut was supposed to fall in the first month. It has been attacked for over 6 months now. Guess how hard it will be to take any other city past that one, if, and that's a sizeable if, Bakhmut falls.

Anon, this is the same sort of nonsense that gave us operation barbarosa and the initial push into Grozny.
Even if they take the town, what does it change?
What will it effect in the grand scheme of things other than the temporary capitulation of a small mining town that, until this war, almost no one knew existed?
      >It's a symbolic victory! It proves we can beat NATO training!
Through lobbing hundreds of thousands of men at one small town over the course of 7 months, sure, but what happens when the enemy isn't a far smaller force holding on to a small town that has next to no significant strategic value?
You can't just rely on a 10-1 manpower ratio in every fight, and right now that's all Russia has to offer.
You also need to remember that this came after a failed offensive, that turned into a failed siege in Bakhmut, which turned into what's happening in Soledar right now.
You should look into the term "pyrrhic victory".

You guys have really amped up this NATO Mercenary thing in your empty heads haven't you? Besides even if we did have 'NATO Mercenaries" working there, you're kind of don't have a leg to stand on considering you have Wagner, another mercenary group, serving on that very same battleline. Does Wagner just "magically'" stop being mercenaries the second you need to decry the use of supposed mercenaries by Ukrainians?

        Anonymous

I think he means NATO trained or mercenary, not NATO trained mercenaries. The OP also didn't complain about the use of mercenary troops, it just mentioned them. You're the one that attached the negative connotation. Realistically speaking there are definitely mercenaries fighting for Ukraine, and there's nothing ethically wrong with it.

My point exactly, the matter is not that they're NATO trained, this is irrelevant as the biggest Russian losses were in the beginning of the war before the soldiers were shipped to the west for training, the point is that there are thousands, maybe tens of thousands of mercenaries from eastern europe, america, britain, france and several other countries in Ukraine, of course they're paid and supplied by the west, so Russia for now is facing the whole western bloc alone.

I like how you post the passport of a humanitarian aid volunteer who was murdered by russians as proof that Russia is "fighting the western bloc". The only thing it's proving is that Russia is intentionally targeting civilians and humanitarian aid workers.

What mercenary group is fighting in Ukraine? No, foreign volunteers do not count as mercenaries for obvious reasons. They don't meet the criteria of being mercenaries either. The term "mercenaries" have been ruined thanks to pro Russian homosexuals associating them with anybody that is a foreigner.

There's an actual list of foreigners that got killed. Its not as a high as you think. Anyways, you homosexuals use mercenaries on everything to the point of it being devoid of the original meaning, which is a soldier that is working for profit in a organization or military. An example of a mercenary group will be wagner(they are essentially another branch of the russian government/military, though) or blackwater(or whatever name they changed to).

                1. They recaptured 70% of their territory already
                2. Russia went from controlling more than 30% to controlling 15% if you count crimea. Without it, its 11%.
                3. Russia is likited in their supplies and doesn't have the logistical advantage that Ukraine has. Logistics is important in maintaining control over the territories you conquered.
                5. Ukraine has been screwing up russian logistics with long range missile strikes and has been smart in where they allocate resources.
Having 70% of your gains lost isn't winning in a strategic sense. If you want to make soledar some big achievements, you have to explain what is their strategic significance in the long run aside from being a symbolic victory. They already lost momentum after taking major parts of the town and now it turned back into a slug fest. Wagner is even requesting more troops to the area.

They were held up in some towns/cities before pulling out. They don't have to set up proper defenses to really control the region, at least initially. When they left, they left all of their vehicles all over the place along with weapons.

I meant Ukrainian defenses, like if you're just taking land where there's nobody to defend it. But it's a good point that the Russians didn't really set up defenses either. Probably didn't have time to.

For me it never really counted as captured land. The Russians were there briefly, then left.

Retreating from your "conquered" territory isn't winning. The puccians tried that zerg rush in Bahkmut and got annihilated by the hundreds already by precision artillery strikes and forces/ammo depots while also targeting air forces. I forget sometimes that Puccians default back to ww1 tactics when everything is going against them

A retreat from a "conquered" territory is a loss. What part of this is not understood here? If you occupy, or "liberate" per Puccian cope said, and you retreat from said territory, then it is a loss. Do you need further explanation?

They didn't retreat from conquered territory because the territory wasn't conquered.

Oh, so it was then "occupied" but they are not occupying said territory no more. They did not leave without a good reason, right? Or did they do it on good faith?

Nobody is claiming zelensky is a good military strategist. He isn't even the commander in chief of the Ukrainian armed forces. The frick you're strawmanning about? The one thing he is good for is getting aid/diplomacy, which is the perfect job for someone like him who understands how to appeal to emotions as a former comedian. Zelensky is smart enough to stay away from military matters and leave it to people that knows what they are doing unlike the russian military where they appoint a never serve as their ministry of defense. Another thing: zelensky performed in russia in 2013. Imagine getting dunked by someone you previously invited to your country to perform for new years?

You guys don't understand the significance of Bakhmut:

Porks threw everything there. They are on like ninth mobilization wave while we had 1. Our resources, unlike theirs, are limitless. Currently its prisoners massacring them there but when Bakhmut falls, its over for them. No more reserves to put in Slovyansk/Kramatorsk, entire donbass will be russian. This is completely unwinnable for Ukraine.

We've been hearing Wagner has been attacking Bakhmut and Soledar for a while now. I'm wondering if this means these are just "free bodies" for Russia whom they're not concerned about. Are these the prisoners or foreigners who signed up? Or are they Russians who signed up because they're at least getting paid here instead of being conscripted?

Explain how russia is winning? If anything, third worlders come in here to cooe about russia or to run false flagging operations because they want something to bloat about.
      >soledar
Soledar is a town with little significance in the long run. The city won't even provide signifance in seiging bakhmut, the main target. They also lost their momentum and unable to follow up after that tactical victory.

It's ok anon, he can't comprehend anything more than "map now red" = winning. The broader strokes of how wars are ended, won or lost, are completely alien to him. The geopolitical ramifications of russia decimating it's professional military, losing it's modern maneuver war capability, pushing CSTO to the breaking point, pushing Finland and Sweden out of neutrality and towards NATO, etc. If the map go red, russia is winning.

They've lost less men and they continually take ground.
I'll admit that win conditions are confusing to people since even if Russia pulled out now and kept a large chunk of Ukraine people would still say they lost.

          Anonymous

          >they've lost less men
You got any evidence to back that up? Because based on their momentum, they seem to lost more men along with them utilizing tactics that are essentially a guarantee in high casualties.
          >I'll admit that win conditions are confusing to people since even if Russia pulled out now and kept a large chunk of Ukraine people would still say they lost.
          The win conditions switched from
          >capturing kyiv and replacing the government with a RU friendly one
          >in the meantime, it will make it easier for them to capture the eastern and southern territory and establish novorossiya
That failed and now they switched to a long painful process of trying to establish novorossiya since they couldn't topple the government. They lost kharkiv and kherson city while also not establishing full control over the regions they control. Soledar doesn't provide a strategic advantage because they immediately lost momentum the moment they took control majority of the town. It doesn't help them seige bakhmut unless they fully encircle the city in its entirety. Russia's win conditions have been switched up every now and then. If you're winning, you don't switch up the conditions of winning if you're starting to frick up. That is a sign of failure.
