basically this, i mean if you ONLY listen to russian propaganda, russia never lost anything

      >we werent pushed out of Kyiv, it was a feint
      >the Moskva wasnt sunk by Ukrainian missiles, it was sunk by a SMOOOOKER
      >we left Snake Island as a sign of goodwill

its so childish and this collective delusion probably led them to make stupid decisions, such as the entire initial invasion plan

The idea of the dazzlers is to drown out ATGM launcehrs beam, so the missile would loose guidanance. It could work against something liek a Faktoria or homosexual, but it also makes you into a massive target for anyone sportin a pair of NVG goggles.

the funniest thing about the le evil eyes is that they only really work against their own atgms, while the west mostly uses wire guidance.

even better: against the stugna its also almost useless because all the teams basically only laze the tanks at the last moment

            Anonymous

ackshually TOW uses wire to connect actuators in missile to the control unit.

There is an IR flare in the missile that is used by the control unit to track missile, so there is no reason why shtora shouldn't work against older western missiles like TOW 1 or MILAN.

Stugna has laser active for all the time missile spent in the air, there is even 'laser emission active' warning on the screen.

              >so there is no reason why shtora shouldn't work against older western missiles like TOW 1
are there even any TOW 1's left? TOW 2 is like 40 years old now so it I doubt there's be any 1's still serviceable since they only have a 20 year shelf life and we phased out in the 90's so seems like a moot point

Stupid but related question: wire guided is literally WIRE guided? Meaning there's like 5 kilometers of wire attached to each missile? That seems looney-tunes impossible

After firing, the wire is just discarded in place, and there's going to be kilometers of wires laying around when the conflict ends?

Well, a standard spool of fishing line meant for a reel is usually 1500yds, so you can basically work out the rest from there

yeah, theres usually a cable spool in either the base of the missile or in its launcher housing that uncoils as the missile travels, in this vid you get a good look at one kind of TOW

They were. It was the easiest way to protect the system from enemy jamming. And if you think that's crazy, wire-guided torpedoes did exactly the same thing, but with something like 10+ MILES of cable on the spool.

These days, most of the newest stuff is either fire-and-forget or uses encrypted frequency-hopping radio links that are hard to DF, spoof, or jam. The US supplier of copper wire went out of business, so a few years ago the army actually had to launch a crash program to replace the wires on the remaining TOWs in service with radio links (fortunately, these had already been developed for the top-attack TOW-2B model). Also, the Israelis use miles-long fiber-optic cables on certain models of the Spike, which allows the operator to launch blind at a reported target, fly the missile up high, and then find the target on a screen using the feed from the missile's camera. The US had a plan to do this a long time ago (FOGM), but it got cancelled repeatedly, along with most of the other high-tech anti-armor toys after the end of the Cold War.

There were videos from Syria of shtora working against what appeared to be either TOW or one of the TOW knockoffs made by countries like Iran. The missile approached the tank, and suddenly veered off high into the sky.

Obviously, this doesn't work against modern IIR seekers like Javelin or Spike. A DIRCM laser jammer would work, but I'm not aware of any that have been fitted to tanks as of yet. Thermal smoke would probably be the best countermeasure, but as we've seen so many times over the last couple decades, nobody ever seems to remember to pop smoke, not even the IDF.

                > nobody ever seems to remember to pop smoke

The only use of smoke I've seen this damn conflict is one Russian tank uses - get this - the fricking engine smoke generator, not even the nades. I haven't seen any use of WP, smoke shells, and there's only been one big example of dedicated smoke generators with that Crimean Bridge exercise

This is what you get when your news is based on lying. You start having to tell larger and larger lies. There's no way to return to reality. Eventually you have to explain who you've gone from glorious victory to glorious victory but also the French are walking into the Ruhr/the Soviets are outside Berlin/you're still miles from Kyiv and the Ukrainians aren't about to stop fighting any time soon.

Wagner is a moron organization that takes in military rejects and people too stupid to have prospects after their conscription is over. But they think that they could take on any power in the world. So when they get assblasted in every recent conflict they assume that any accomplishment that wasn't theirs must be a lie, no matter how tiny like taking out 1 HIMARS that feasibly accomplishes nothing in itself.

According to the Brits' intel they actually seem to be among the most competent and effective forces in the Russian military right now. They were apparently instrumental in taking Popasna and Lysychansk and I wouldn't be surprised if they were responsible for the Russians capturing part of Pokrovske near Bakhmut earlier today. Perhaps their previous combat experience in Syria and elsewhere informs their apparently more realistic, semi-doomer attitude.

I bet you could get Wagner group ejected from the battle space if you falsified enough social media posts from "wagner staff" talking about how fricked the whole operation is.

    >"The bulk of our problems is due to us fricking lying to ourselves!"

...an actually self-aware vatnik. I think we found a unicorn.

    >"The bulk of our problems is due to us fricking lying to ourselves!"
This is literally the core of Russia's many, many issues. Literally nobody has any incentive to tell the truth. It is a throne of lies.
