Depends on what they're using it for. To replace BMP losses? A sign of stupidity and desperation. As a rear-echelon transpo or anti-drone force mulitiplier? Still pretty shitty but not outright STUPID.
I've been seeing these photos for a day now and it still hurts my brain. There's the logical and rational part of me that sees these photos and thinks it must be some sort of joke or propaganda to make Russia seem dumb, something brewed up by a misguided but patriotic citizen, but then I realise how many of them there are. Then the clownworld part of my mind kicks in and says of course it makes sense that a supposed superpower is now stooping so low as to take APCs from the 1950s and strap naval gun turrets of a similar vintage to the top of them.
I am thoroughly convinced at this point that they probably have no more than a dozen functioning ICBMs and we should just do the world a favour and glass Russia. Tell China that if they shut the fuck up and endorse our actions at the UN then they can have Siberia, as long as we're rid of Russia forever.
This makes more sense as it is in a low truck bed, not on the roof of an amphibious vehicle (which is 6' tall). The gunner on this new monstrosity is sitting exposed 11' off the ground.
Oh wow I love it >entirely implausible rear legs >entire design waits eagerly to bore & plunge into undiscovered voids
At least the guaranteed 30-300 foot fall from one part of a cave to another will painlessly and instantly kill the crew.
it was pretty common centuries ago in european sieges to fight underground. The attacker tried to put a big mine to destroy the rock walls and the defenders usually tried to stop them.
Not a chance, it is a hand cranked turret with a ww2 gun sight. No optics and even when it was new 80 years ago it was already useless for air defense against newly deployed jets.
It can't target anything smaller than a helicopter and the 60 round belt runs dry after a few bursts. On a boat it would have a crew of 4 men feeding it box after box of ammo.
> so you're saying its perfectly suited for drones
Maybe drones the size of spitfires flying at low altitude.
Russia would be better of using Shilkas or not leeching military funds to build yachts so they can build more Pantsirs.
>no proxy fuzed ammo (wouldn't work anyway on something that is tiny and 90% made from plastic) >mechanical gunsight >super shitty RoF, full ammo load are two 65 round belts
You will NOT spot a drone with this shit.
And if you do, you won't hit it.
Retard.
> Thinks that's the hitable speed of a 1 meter target at altitude, 1000m away, with no fire control and manual traverse, that has to be hit directly because there's no px fuse.
Did you even pause to think of a real world example before you started typing?

It's cute that you think we in this thread have already forgotten that you proved yourself retarded when you claimed that quadcopter drones fly faster than WW2 fighters.
Its hand cranked with equivalent of iron sights. You would be a crack shot to hit a wide side of a barn with it, good fucking luck trying to hit a plastic bag sized drone.
Honestly the increased amount of MTLB's being deployed in frontline service is more embarrassing than the ISIS-tier technical stuff, imagine if the US started deploying M59's instead of Bradleys etc.
The Terminator turned out to be a great weapon in Ukraine so every unit wants one or anything resembling that kind of vehicle, this is a stop gap measure but those twin autocannons are going to mince ukrainian infantry
Not even Skaven can escape the dreaded J curve. Why do you think they're abducting Ukranian kids? Just replace Putrid Rice with Vodka & Potato and Warpstone with Desomophine.
Perhaps they're the Dark Eldar?
Dark Elves would be in keeping with the Fantasy comparison, but I don't think they are AS fucked as their 40k counterparts are.

Being on nuPrepHole these days is so depressing. Two years ago, we'd have laughed at any European nation strapping shit to a pick up truck as fucking Africa tier but now? It's based and genius.
>dig a trench and hide most of vehicle there >store ammo in hull >have crew in hull >just peek with ther turret
xaxaxaxaxaxa nato piggies outplay *~~) if u cannot blow up ammo or kill all crew, tank wont die in war thunder

>And won't that make the vehicle a bit back heavy?
MT-LB served as a platform for lots of stuff in the past.
not a bad idea, but you don't need the APC for this. the germans did the same with leftover tank turrets when their tank production started failing. the only problem is, its really only good for defending, and russia is attacking.
>but you don't need the APC for this
Russia logistics are so shit that it would be impossible to move that to the front unless it moves on its own power.
Still never bothered to find out what the top left and right were meant to be. But I also have pointed out the USA did funky shit in the sandpit. I dunno why PrepHole is freaking out so much about Russia doing equally pragmatic things. How is it any different to getting a transport truck and slapping some big slabs of metal on it and 4 M2's and filling it up with ammo and putting a canopy to stop the sun and riding around in it? I dunno.
>WHU BOUT MURRICA
like fucking clockwork
But he has a point. If this is worth laughing at for Russia, then it is worth laughing at for USA/UK/Japan/SK/France/Germany/Whatever. In reality it isn't anything worth laughing at.
Because it is literally a 50s artillery tractor/APC with a manual naval AA straight out of WW2 crudely welded on top. It is simple not comparable to just slapping a few metal plates in a humvee for extra protection or trying to turn it into a light indirect fire SPG that is supposed to sit several kilometers behind the frontline.
Yeah that's bullshit. Extra plates to a humvee? Pragmatic. Having a pillbox with some grenade launchers that you can move places? Great, since they're fighting dudes with AKs at best.
What problem is the Russian thing solving? Surviving too long?
See how thick the armour plating is on the roof? That is the side armour thickness too. That box offers good protection from enemy infantry and even mortars are not penetrating that roof. The mounted weapons have modern optics and are reliable, and can be reloaded without getting out of the vehicle and climbing onto the roof.
It would not face any long range guided missiles or tanks, just the odd arab teenager with an RPG-7. There are enough eyes and guns in the back to suppress most near threats and eliminate them. For the kind of conflict this was in, it was fine.
And also more importantly, unlike in the Ukraine conflict this battle box was not sent in alone escorted into an urban area, or sent on a suicide mission through a farmers field unprotected. It would have had multiple vehicles with it plus air cover as needed.
Left is just some decoy stuff bolted to a vehicle. Right side is some extra plating added to a humvee used at checkpoints.
Neither is strapping a retardedly big, literal tower of a 40s AA to a 50s vehicle.
>and dump a couple hundred rounds downrange
That thing uses 65 round belts, and reloading requires someone to open up the rear of the turret and manually put in another belt.
As for the "long range" part, it's iron sights and manual trasverse only.
For all your complaints about reddit, you seem to love posting longform bullshit that might trick a moron into upvoting it.
>open top >in a war marked by drones casually dropping grenades on targets
We literally have the one situation when a cope cage would be legit and they didn't do it. What is wrong with Russians, it's like the want to fuck it up at every corner they can.
Would it be a good idea to specifically avoid killing these things but hit everything else around them? Let Russia think they stumbled upon a wunderwaffe design so they start cranking these out.
The funny part is that guy isn't even a mobik cripple, they just grabbed a rando civvie cripple off the street (probably because a mobik wouldn't look so happy, healthy and would tell them to fuck off).
So would these be good for hull downing them and using them as static defensive turets? Would it make sense to throw one of these and a crew of maybe 3-4 guys on a line, in order to free up other assets to press attacks?
t-theres no way we're gonna see these actually taking part in offensive actions right?
As an Anon previously mentioned, that turret is about 11ft (3.35m) in the air. You'd have to dig a very wide, very deep pit for this to be used in a hull down position effectively.
The only sensible purpose I can think of is using it to try and shoot down the larger drones like the TB-2, helicopters or something similar.
It's a downright bad AA weapon even by WWII standards. >low rate of fire >low ammo loadout >purely mechanical gunsight >point-detonating fuze
You'd be lucky shooting down a hovering helicopter with it.
Anything smaller and/or moving would be pretty hard to get even given a properly trained crew.
These will be just handed out to mobiks who have never heard of deflection shooting in their miserable lives.
It's way too high profile for something that is essentially unarmored, lacks power traverse or elevation (since the MTLB doesn't have a hydraulic power unit, perhaps they fitted one, but I doubt it), or optics. Sticking a bare gun with a 5 shot hopper and a gun shield on a pintle mount would unironically be a better choice.
I'm highly dubious of it's survivability in that scenario. Frankly it's very concerning that this is the best thing they have for the scenario, for Christ's sake, they made over 140,000 2A13s.
>We won't be fighting third world savages forever, eventually we'll go back to having to fight a near-peer adversary >the "near peer" adversary >mfw the taliban is now closer to being a "near peer" than Russia is.
I don't think the radar and targeting system of the Shilka is up to the anti-drone job.
The Ukes have them too but they aren't used much either. They mostly use manually operated stuff like ZSU-23-2s. They praised the Gepards highly because I think they filled a gap they had that the Shilka was unable to fill.
>Naval gun on a armor that can't swim >AA gun on armor that can swim
I'm very slightly upset by this.
>RoF has it absolutely MOGGED (450 vs 2000 RPM) >actual optical gunsight that isn't a fucking WWII tier spiderweb >same effective amount of armor (i.e. none vs. sheet of mild steel that will get penetrated by small arms fire) >lighter >lower silhouette >equivalent ammo supply except the ZU-23-2 can actually get reloaded easily unlike the tall as fuck 2M-3 >23mm ammo is readily available unlike the 25x218mm which hasn't been manufactured in 40 years and is only stocked by the Russian Navy
Unironically the shit in OP is a downgrade to what you posted in every practical way.

leaning tower of luhansk
M.A.A.A.D. Tank
Earth is like sea you can walk on comrade!
What if the top falls off?
It would be extremely painful.
It’s a big tower
bump
Underrated
East Germans did it first.
This makes more sense as it is in a low truck bed, not on the roof of an amphibious vehicle (which is 6' tall). The gunner on this new monstrosity is sitting exposed 11' off the ground.
He can peek over hills now. Wart Thunder has taught them well.
It's also the East Germans so they're just making due with Soviet hand-me-downs. Much like the modern Russian Federation.
New vehicle for Russian tree in Warthunder? Tier X BMP?
At this point you'd might as well build a land sub and slowly tunnel under your enemy.
Oh wow I love it
>entirely implausible rear legs
>entire design waits eagerly to bore & plunge into undiscovered voids
At least the guaranteed 30-300 foot fall from one part of a cave to another will painlessly and instantly kill the crew.
real life isn't minecraft, caves are exceptionally rare.
Excavators to everyone
>moving from one protected position to another
>excavating machinery
This sounds like trench warfare, but on a much grander scale.
> WW3 unnaground tunnel warfare
> Massive armored drilling machines
> Underground bunker complexes
> Flamethrowers everywhere
> Pumping toxic gase down tunnels
> 3 dimensional infantry maneuvers
> Shotguns , SMGs, and Pistols
> Melee combat in total darkness
> Cave ins everywhere
> Crawling single file through 18inch tall tunnels to flank the enemy.
Sounds like a recipe for super-PTSD.
it was pretty common centuries ago in european sieges to fight underground. The attacker tried to put a big mine to destroy the rock walls and the defenders usually tried to stop them.
I believe they did it in the American Civil War as well.
You realize that the Molemen are our most elite forces, right?
They just didn't have an opportunity to show their value in the sandbowl.
Bradley killer
Laugh it up, the cope will be delicious when these things start ripping through Cuckleys en masse.
Take your meds
BFV got vastly superior sensors, aiming and mobility
Oh yes, the cope will be delicious, if a bit different from what you imagine.
Could it be their anti-drone solution?
Not a chance, it is a hand cranked turret with a ww2 gun sight. No optics and even when it was new 80 years ago it was already useless for air defense against newly deployed jets.
It can't target anything smaller than a helicopter and the 60 round belt runs dry after a few bursts. On a boat it would have a crew of 4 men feeding it box after box of ammo.
so you're saying its perfectly suited for drones, which not only are not jets, they are much slower than ww2 prop fighters.
If it were a flak cannon maybe, but it's not
> so you're saying its perfectly suited for drones
Maybe drones the size of spitfires flying at low altitude.
Russia would be better of using Shilkas or not leeching military funds to build yachts so they can build more Pantsirs.
>no proxy fuzed ammo (wouldn't work anyway on something that is tiny and 90% made from plastic)
>mechanical gunsight
>super shitty RoF, full ammo load are two 65 round belts
You will NOT spot a drone with this shit.
And if you do, you won't hit it.
Retard.
>You will NOT spot a drone with this shit.
maybe wipe some of the ukrainian cum out of your eyes and you might see better *~~
>so you're saying its perfectly suited for drones they are much slower than ww2 prop fighters.
Dude 150 m/s is 540 km/h.
Drones are also a fraction of the size of a jet fighter. The drone just has to move 6 inches to one side and the shell will miss. No proximity fuse.
It's not like a proximity fuse would actually go off, not with the drone being tiny and mostly non-metallic.
Neither is the PD fuse on the HE round.
>speed of no more than 335 miles per hour
so just how fast do you think quadcopter drones are, oh great sage of the internet?
> Thinks that's the hitable speed of a 1 meter target at altitude, 1000m away, with no fire control and manual traverse, that has to be hit directly because there's no px fuse.
Did you even pause to think of a real world example before you started typing?
It's cute that you think we in this thread have already forgotten that you proved yourself retarded when you claimed that quadcopter drones fly faster than WW2 fighters.
It's amazing you're insisting this will work.
Its hand cranked with equivalent of iron sights. You would be a crack shot to hit a wide side of a barn with it, good fucking luck trying to hit a plastic bag sized drone.
What the fuck. I genuinely thought those where fake pictures until now
Honestly the increased amount of MTLB's being deployed in frontline service is more embarrassing than the ISIS-tier technical stuff, imagine if the US started deploying M59's instead of Bradleys etc.
Yeah, the MT-LBis a great tractor/prime mover but it's barely an APC and not an IFV.
Slightly cheaper version.
>thickness of three to ten millimetres (0.12 to 0.39in) of steel with a maximum of 14 millimetres (0.55in) for the turret front.[7]
Thats fake, is it? I mean thats a deepfake? Or Ukrainian using what they have in museums to built some defence canons?
that's russian, and it's not a fake. there is a video running around of a whole train load of these things headed for novorossia
Mio Dios!
this isn't for drones
The Terminator turned out to be a great weapon in Ukraine so every unit wants one or anything resembling that kind of vehicle, this is a stop gap measure but those twin autocannons are going to mince ukrainian infantry
>The Terminator turned out to be a great weapon in Ukraine
AHAHAHAHHA
While Russia was making these things this showed up in Poland yesterday:
that's a US brigade returning from poland to the US though. but nice try gay.
If they are arriving at a US port why are all the signs at the port in Polish?
>arriving at a US port
That's not what he said.
are you an ESL or merely illiterate?
From Poland anon. This means that one of the ports is in Poland.
Hohol IQ.
>Port Gdyna.
belmondo
Jesus fuck
Selfdriving motorpools will save millions of hours of human labor globally in our lifetimes
if russians are orks then what scifi army are the ukrainians?
>if russians are orks
I'm not so sure they aren't the Skaven, anon.
>I'm not so sure they aren't the Skaven, anon.
Not with that demographic collapse.
Not sci-fi, but LOTR humans trained by elves.
Who are the dwarves?
The insides of it.
Medieval torture chamber.
>Russia takes a ML-TB and puts a naval AA turret on it and uses it as semi-static drone defence
>OMG SO FUCKING SHIT LMAO OH MY GOD GUYS LOOK AT THIS WE NEED ANOTHER DOZEN THREADS ABOUT THIS OH MY G-D THIS IS SO BAD AND PATHETIC COME IN HERE AND LAUGH GUYS AHAHAHA
>Ukrainians put shit on fucking pickup trucks or quad bikes or fucking buggies
>OMG SO BASED THIS IS SO GOOD AND COOL HAHA GOTTA GO FAST PEW PEW AMAZING BRILLIANT INGENIOUS FANTASTIC THIS IS WHY THEY'LL WIN
Being on nuPrepHole these days is so depressing. Two years ago, we'd have laughed at any European nation strapping shit to a pick up truck as fucking Africa tier but now? It's based and genius.
Russia is supposed to be a professional army capable of defeating all of Europe. That is why it is funny.
>and uses it as semi-static drone defence
That's the most stupid part if they actually are retarded enough to use it for that.
>uses it as semi-static drone defence
This is the one thing it can't possibly do.
I can imagine the bitter tears welling up while typing this post
>Ukrainians
I think you mean Syria, newfag.
Looks like something out of Gorkamorka.
go back to /chug/
dilate
>It's my side good your side bad level of discourse
This but unironically.
Vatmorons are for mocking, not interacting with.
>dig a trench and hide most of vehicle there
>store ammo in hull
>have crew in hull
>just peek with ther turret
xaxaxaxaxaxa nato piggies outplay *~~) if u cannot blow up ammo or kill all crew, tank wont die in war thunder
either a child drew this or a complete retard
it's clearly a joke. don't be autistic anon
>gets drone 'nade dropped in the open turret
nuffing personnel
It could use a cope cage unironically
not a bad idea, but you don't need the APC for this. the germans did the same with leftover tank turrets when their tank production started failing. the only problem is, its really only good for defending, and russia is attacking.
>but you don't need the APC for this
Russia logistics are so shit that it would be impossible to move that to the front unless it moves on its own power.
Turret is 4mm (0.16") sheetmetal, it is essentially unarmoured. Even standard FMJ infantry rifles will penetrate that.
>have crew in hull
This kind of turret needs a gunner up top, and a loader standing beside it.
I don't get it
what would this even be used for
turret so high that it would be visible for a mile so no close combat
no sights so you cannot hit drones
why build it
mobile aa. like gepard but no radars.
Copepards?
then why the hell do you even need the vehicle for? just plant the damn thing into the ground and call it a day.
>dig an open-pit mine and hide most of vehicle there
fixed that for you bud
>OUR SQUARE IS TARGETED FOR ARTILLERY BARRAGE
Outplayed.
>You see Vasily, navy cannot be sunk like Moskva when navy is on land
But it's ok when americans do it, right?
>WHU BOUT MURRICA
like fucking clockwork
Still never bothered to find out what the top left and right were meant to be. But I also have pointed out the USA did funky shit in the sandpit. I dunno why PrepHole is freaking out so much about Russia doing equally pragmatic things. How is it any different to getting a transport truck and slapping some big slabs of metal on it and 4 M2's and filling it up with ammo and putting a canopy to stop the sun and riding around in it? I dunno.
See
Yeah that's bullshit. Extra plates to a humvee? Pragmatic. Having a pillbox with some grenade launchers that you can move places? Great, since they're fighting dudes with AKs at best.
What problem is the Russian thing solving? Surviving too long?
>What problem is the Russian thing solving?
Vatniks keep using their “what about ___” card because they genuinely cannot answer this question.
HAHAHAHA the top left is a decoy for training areas you fucking vatnik retard
Yeah man haha. USA has never done pragmatic shit haha.
Unironically yes. Cry about it, faggola.
Left is just some decoy stuff bolted to a vehicle. Right side is some extra plating added to a humvee used at checkpoints.
Neither is strapping a retardedly big, literal tower of a 40s AA to a 50s vehicle.
>2-3 miles away
The 2M-3M has a maximum range of about 1.5mi/2.5km. So, no.
If Zelensky was a politician instead of a comedian he wouldn't be able to handle this shit.
So is it a production-ready terminator?
> Radar carrier
They're actually going to use a hand skewed 70 year old naval gun with no proximity fuses for drone defense.
The crazy bastards!
>and dump a couple hundred rounds downrange
That thing uses 65 round belts, and reloading requires someone to open up the rear of the turret and manually put in another belt.
As for the "long range" part, it's iron sights and manual trasverse only.
For all your complaints about reddit, you seem to love posting longform bullshit that might trick a moron into upvoting it.
>open up the rear of the turret
Even worse, it is side loaded. The loader stands beside it fully exposed.
Not even my final form.
>no girls allowed
add era
And tree armor
"The Ents are marching on Isengard!"
>open top
>in a war marked by drones casually dropping grenades on targets
We literally have the one situation when a cope cage would be legit and they didn't do it. What is wrong with Russians, it's like the want to fuck it up at every corner they can.
It's not just open top, it's completely unarmored, 4mm of mild steel.
goofy ahh bob semple tank
Can't wait for the first drone video of one of these getting their gunners bombed.
ORKZ IS NEVA BEATEN IN BATTLE
Pacific fleet status: Mobilized
Set sail for fail
it was moooobiled few months ago, according to 155th POWs in Vuhledar
Would it be a good idea to specifically avoid killing these things but hit everything else around them? Let Russia think they stumbled upon a wunderwaffe design so they start cranking these out.
not like this zisters....
Lmfao
Severely underrated
kek
>SHIT IT BROWN
The funny part is that guy isn't even a mobik cripple, they just grabbed a rando civvie cripple off the street (probably because a mobik wouldn't look so happy, healthy and would tell them to fuck off).
Should've made it a ramming-type RPG drone for lateral attack though.
jej
It's a downright bad AA weapon even by WWII standards.
>low rate of fire
>low ammo loadout
>purely mechanical gunsight
>point-detonating fuze
You'd be lucky shooting down a hovering helicopter with it.
Anything smaller and/or moving would be pretty hard to get even given a properly trained crew.
These will be just handed out to mobiks who have never heard of deflection shooting in their miserable lives.
>the Gepards at home:
This is Somali tier. Wtf Russia??
something something it's not a real war we don't even care xaxa
IMAGINE getting moobilized to operate this thing.
What's wrong with giving an APC some firepower?
It's way too high profile for something that is essentially unarmored, lacks power traverse or elevation (since the MTLB doesn't have a hydraulic power unit, perhaps they fitted one, but I doubt it), or optics. Sticking a bare gun with a 5 shot hopper and a gun shield on a pintle mount would unironically be a better choice.
They'll just probabky use it as a mobile 2x20mm cannon to support infantry. Might as well, if they have a bunch of them laying around
The Red Giraffe will be the tallest thing on the battlefield. It's lifetime will be measured in seconds.
I'm highly dubious of it's survivability in that scenario. Frankly it's very concerning that this is the best thing they have for the scenario, for Christ's sake, they made over 140,000 2A13s.
>Wtf Russia??
>We won't be fighting third world savages forever, eventually we'll go back to having to fight a near-peer adversary
>the "near peer" adversary
>mfw the taliban is now closer to being a "near peer" than Russia is.
Don't they have Shilkas for this? Or did they pawn them all off?
I don't think the radar and targeting system of the Shilka is up to the anti-drone job.
The Ukes have them too but they aren't used much either. They mostly use manually operated stuff like ZSU-23-2s. They praised the Gepards highly because I think they filled a gap they had that the Shilka was unable to fill.
> I don't think the radar and targeting system of the Shilka is up to the anti-drone job
Neither is this thing
at least it has a radar
...eh.
Something like that would be neat for a small fishtank. The buttons and wheel releasing food or stuff.
it's unironically probably more reliable and better functioning than the T-14
That is some GLA shit
>Ivan, my mobik
>You must choose SPAAG for yourself
>Do you pick naval canon welded to MTLB military tractor
>Or Zu-23 cabled to BTR-D taxi
Also,
>Naval gun on a armor that can't swim
>AA gun on armor that can swim
I'm very slightly upset by this.
>RoF has it absolutely MOGGED (450 vs 2000 RPM)
>actual optical gunsight that isn't a fucking WWII tier spiderweb
>same effective amount of armor (i.e. none vs. sheet of mild steel that will get penetrated by small arms fire)
>lighter
>lower silhouette
>equivalent ammo supply except the ZU-23-2 can actually get reloaded easily unlike the tall as fuck 2M-3
>23mm ammo is readily available unlike the 25x218mm which hasn't been manufactured in 40 years and is only stocked by the Russian Navy
Unironically the shit in OP is a downgrade to what you posted in every practical way.
Amazing.
>ZU-23
ye but what's the depression and can you spray enemy civilians with it?
>what's the depression
Looks aight according to bore blunder
>can you spray enemy civilians with it?
What else would you do with it? Shoot at planes? Puh-lease.
>what's the depression
Typical for living in Russia.
I just did the math zisters: THERE IS HOPE
(same gun and shell as the 2M-3)
the GAZ version is probably unironically better in every way
when are we getting this in war thunder?
As soon as America gets the next Abrams upgrade kit, the one that can't be pen'd by Russian tanks from the front., I forget which version that is.
Also, did they fix NATO 20mm and 12.7mm HE bug?
These are so autistic I can hear the screeching.
kek
do you know if small caliber HE ammo still bugged?
Frankly as long as it absolutely fucking destroys Russia for the next century, I can live with Ukraine's sacrifice. :^)
Oooh, new Russian fuckup incoming? Thanks for the heads up.
