Van Life is DEAD

It's over, bros.
Van Life is dead, buried, and soon to be forgotten.
All the trendy online hipsters killed it.
But never fear.
There's a new trend waiting in the wings to replace it.

Literally not how it works in Australia. Demand falls? Prices rise because it’s niche or need to cover operating costs or some other bullshit. Demand rises? Prices rise. Price only go up.

          Anonymous

that's because supply is also contracting, as well as cost increases because things are not being made at scale.
And if things are more niche there is less competition so it's easier for companies to frick you by just setting high prices. They know you don't have any choice but to go through them.

Not him but I have no rare gets as far as my van is concerned
I have outgrown it , but I did severy builds until I found exactly what suited me
My next van is going to be a ford transit if they ever start fricking making them again

Things I got rid of along the way
Sink , what a waste of space
Passenger seat, its rare that there is a need for it since I am forever alone
Windows, when I want to see outside I leave the door open

      Stuff you need for sure
      Stove
      5 gallon water dispenser
Fridge (a cooler is no fun for extended travel)
Pee bottle and poop bucket. Make these good ones and learn how to use them right or your life will be horrible
      Maxxair fan
Heavy duty tires so you dont bust a sidewall offroad
Tarps and tent pole awning and learn the tricks of setup
Good ground cover mat for under awning
Solar is pretty hard to live without if you camp for extended periods

Women honestly will make you crazy , I never met Brian but I damn sure understand him
Women will want to come with you and say they wont be a bother
      What a load of shit

Do not ever take a woman with you on an extended camping trip.
A woman’s idea of camping is to do a two hour hike where they can take borderline naked selfies at a waterfall in the hopes of getting even a sliver of internet clout, before going back to their air conditioned cabin.
Every woman who makes “van life” videos is a fricking liar, and many of them have already been exposed. They drive their vans to a nice looking beach, get some b-roll footage to layer over acoustic guitar sounds, and then they drive that van right back to the hotel that they’re actually staying at.
I know a guy and girl who did van life for 3 months out of college, she hated it and if he didn’t finally settle down in an apartment she was gonna leave him. Killed his dreams of adventure because she wanted a bath tub.
I hate women so much it’s unreal.

Go on Instagram or Facebook or something and search for AT, PCT, or CDT. There are plenty of girls (not women; women haven’t existed for a few generations) doing those, and a handful will have finished all three this year. That’s a lot of effort for likes and comments.

            Anonymous

Not really. When every fiber of your being burns for attention, and your mind's sole thought it "look at me!" then of course you will go to extreme lengths to satisfy your craving. That, and children walk the AT, anon. Come on. The PCT is the only one that you could argue takes effort, and even then, it's just planning. Your average person should (key word) already be fit enough to walk any of those.

          This sounds accurate.
They're shallow, weak and not driven at all. Women can only follow what a man does.
A man goes out in nature because he needs to. Because he knows indulging in modern shallow pleasures will kill him.
Women can only follow (and they often don't want to, but they're always better off because of it)

Based. How's the reliability? Been thinking about grabbing an import when they pop up.

          Anonymous

Reliability very good. I have a KZN130 which is a JDM import with the
3.0l turbodiesel. Obviously, because it has a turbo, there's a whole
other system of factors in play and to take care of. The killer of the
1KZ-TE engine is overheating and blowing the head, so preventative
measures like aftermarket EGT/water temp gauges, lower thermostat
setpoint and relocation, viscous fan adjustment, and higher quality
radiator will ensure for a long life.
I previously had a Toyota Hilux LN106 which had the 2.8l naturally
aspirated diesel in it. Though the machine is african-bush certified
bulletproof, it was just too slow for the highways we have here in
america. Absolute dog of an engine, but entirely trustworthy.
Nonetheless, I miss it sometimes after selling it a year ago.
          >pic related my KZN130 last year in colorado. It was pretty much bare

I just want all the morons who bought vans and RVs during COVID to realize they are wasting their money and sell them. These newbies are the ones getting camping sites shut down because they can't be bothered to pack out their garbage, or avoid damaging the environment. The authorities have to come and clear them out, and then shut the place down while it recovers. The new wave of van lifers is destroying everything.

You realize that vanlife is still going strong, especially because of COVID. People are still feeling the pressures of the lockdown, so they want to get out. Skoolies and big RVs are kind of scary. You have no idea if the person driving them has ever driven anything bigger than a Honda Accord in their life, if they know how to properly conduct a daily inspection, if they're doing good maintenance, if they're completely sober... because when a 12,000 lb. vehicle goes out of control, it makes a BIG mess.

This is why I completely stopped telling any normal gay any locations. I made the mistake a few times and now all the city gays go there because some butthole posted it on komoot or any other app or something. Places that are just nice to wander through or chill out. Sometimes a bit dangerous, now dumb city hipster buttholes go there with their dogs and kids, then cry for it to be fenced off for everyone and guarded when someone gets hurt for being a disconnected piece of shit... NEVER tell or post locations. Only share with people who are not normie slime and only in person.

I'm planning to go on a camping trip while working remotely 8 hours per day. I have a Toyota Tacoma, a work laptop, and a work phone that connects to almost any cellular network.

How can I keep my laptop powered for 8 hours per day? Would prefer to not running my car engine all the time. Would a small generator work? Laptop is 65W.

      Anonymous

A modern laptop should pull like 10w or less at idle. Get a 12v adapter and you should be fine. If you refuse to spend money on gas to idle you'll need a 100w panel in the sun for a good portion of the day.

Trying to get my graphic design work rolling out of my van, and I'm out of my element completely. At home I use a desktop PC but I was told a laptop is far superior for what I'm doing now on the road. I also have no way of powering anything at the moment. What steps do I need to orientate myself in the direction I want to go? Does anyone have experience with this? Ultimately I would prefer setting my desktop up in my van and powering via a battery connected to my alternator or solar, but I'm being told heavily to get a laptop and work off shore power instead. Problem is people telling me this also say Apple products are the best for graphic design which I know is completely uneducated tripe.

I live in an inner city which limits my camper ownership somewhat. I can only own one car/van due to parking restrictions and it must be petrol due to clean air restrictions. Almost all vans in UK are diesel so that rules out using an old van.
I've been thinking about converting a minibus/MPV/people carrier like pic as the japanese imports are almost always petrol (even a 3 litre V6 petrol is able to drive through thge clean air zone with no charge).
I mainly just want a bed to sleep in and maybe some seating (convertible bed?) and a surface to cook on.
Anyone know if these will be much less roomy than a full-on van?

japanese vans are always much thinner width wise than German vans due to the nature of japanese road ways. it just sucks because you either have to build a thin bed or give up cabinets/storage/stove in your build. i live in canada and looked at delicas because they are popular here and they were always way too thin for a good build to live out of. I drive a vanagon and they are massive compared to anything from japan.

No, van life died due to infestation by homosexualy instagram attention prostitutes who don't clean up after themselves, resulting in most localities making laws designed to get van dwellers to frick off. This process was set in motion long before gasoline ventured above the $3/GL mark.

So really it's going to depend on how often and how far you move. And really, unless you own the land you're parked on, you should move daily to avoid suspicion.

The gas thieves where I live just drill holes in your tank, take what they want, and let the rest spill on the ground.

Many guys in vans these days are not dirty hobos.
My van is worth about 70k and I own a home in a resort. I am not a vagrant

why do people think you have to actually live in your van lol?
Having a camper allows so much flexibility.
    I can:
    >live in my parents nice house that is about 40min from work during the weekend and just sleep near work in my van during the weekend and cut my weekly commute to nearly zero
    >live with my parents during the week, commute in every day and go travel for the weekend
    >easily get a job in places 2+ hours away because I don't have to live in motel until I find a place to rent
