Used towel

How do I recondition a towel and make it fluffy again?

I got a gf (finally) and she says my towel needs to be replaced. I've used the same towel everyday since college, so like, 6 years ago. I hang it up to dry each time I use it and I wash it sometimes. Anyway she says it feels like crusty sandpaper.

How do I get it fluffy? Do I need fabric soften or something?

try maybe washing it at least once a week instead of once in awhile, preferably you would have more than one towel and switch it out every three days

don't use fabric softener, it just ruins your washer

      >don't use fabric softener
this, along with fabric softener can build up on clothing and make it smell like shit.

      Towels especially.

Why? Mine works perfectly fine and has been drying for years. If I get two towels she might think we're in a relationship.

Unless you live in a commercial clean room, there is always bacterial and mold floating the the air.

Those goodies land on everything, and if there's moisture, they thrive.

I assume you hang your towels in the bathroom like a normal person, and guess what happens after you take a dump and flush the toilet? All of those nice poop particles that you can smell land on your towel.

Why do you think your towel has a specific smell to it after a few days of use? Water by itself has no smell.

Do you savages not close the fricking lid on the toilet before flushing?

Serious answer: not really possible to get back the original quality of the fabric. When you run the towel through the dryer, you ever notice how the majority of lint from that load is towel-coloured? Yeah, your towels are just naturally decaying and shedding the material that makes them soft.
You can slow down the process by using either high-quality, bougie towels (look at "hotel" brand towels, because hotels would see linens as a expenditure to control), or by picking flat-weave towels (the kind without the tufted surface) since they will hold together a bit better.

The only correct answer in this thread.

              do you mean

wash on extra hot using a full jug of white vinegar instead of detergent

              you're welcome

has no merit at all? I would try that first. Plus it will deodorize your wssher. Or the laundrymat, which would be pretty cool.

                both are correct
an old shitty towel is never going to be as soft as a brand new towel, but if you're too moronic to realize textiles need replacing once in a while like op, then my tip about vinegar is the next best thing

            >bougie towels (look at "hotel" brand towels)
When I stayed at the Wynn Encore in Boston they had the best towels and pillows I'd ever used
Then I went to the store and it was like 50 bucks a towel and 200 a pillow
I still bought two towels but I passed on the pillow
A year later the towels still dry extremely well but definitely aren't as soft

I dunno if fabric softener will make it fluffy, but it will reduce the sandpaper feel. I wouldn't use fabric softeners on towels if I can though because they reduce their water-absorption capabilities drastically. Crusty towels are fine for drying off honestly, just tell your gayfriend to stop being a homosexual about it.

Tell her that men prefer and need rougher towels to dry off fully because of their rougher skin texture and greater amount of body hair. Honestly this isn't bullshit. I can never feel dry with fluffy towels.

You need to "strip" the towel. What has happened is that detergent and general crud has embedded between the fibers and doesn't ever get rinsed out. Start by adding about a cup of distilled white vinegar to the wash. Your stuff will NOT come out smelling like pickles. There are about a million YouTube videos on stripping clothes. It works. IT'll take several rounds to restore your cumrag, and it will never be like new. It's lost a lot of fiber over the years, and many strands are broken.

As others have said, never use fabric softener. First of all, it doesn't. Second, it wrecks the pump in your washing machine. Dryer sheets just coat your clothes with a waxy substance. The only things I use dryer sheets for are quick shoe polishers and dusting car interiors.

Dude don't add vinegar to the washer, it'll destroy the black rubber seals over time. Soak the fabrics in a plastic tub if you need to use vinegar or other acids.

        Anonymous

        >it'll destroy the black rubber seals over time.
Absolutely false. Natural rubber is completely stable against 5% acetic acid, even when submerged in constant contact. Polyacrylate is about the only common seal material that's not really suited for constant acetic acid exposure, but there are no polyacrylate seals in a dishwasher. All the seals are either natural, butyl or nitrile rubber, or silicon.

The caustics in detergent are far more reactive with the seals. What ultimately wrecks most seals is buildup of calcium, rust and other minerals around the seals - which vinegar will help prevent.

She's not talking about the towel. Because you let her use your towel, she is leveraging its long term sentimental value and utility as a wedge to create a slippery demand slide where things you thought were yours are not. beware the hazards of Copulins (ask at /fit). Give her father a call and ask him why she is complaining about the towels; or get married and talk about the state of the towels after that.

She is actually insanely jealous of the towel. She thinks he is sleeping with the towel on the side. If he isn't careful he's going to find his pet bunny boiling on the stove when he comes home from work one day. It's going to be really bad when she accuses him of sleeping with the sheets.

If your cum smells like vinegar you need to see a urologist immediately. Probably with a subsequent referral to an endocrinologist.

Your gf is a dumb cumsoomer, old towels hold more water and dry faster, who gives a shift if it doesn't feel soft, that softness makes it soak less and leaves lint everywhere

long staple Egyptian cotton gets better with age, that is not what you have so toss them. Egyptian cotton is expensive, but last forever, I've had mine for 20 years on rotation, still going strong.

I don't mean to be rude OP but your gf is right. Just buy a new towel. cloth goods to not last forever, obviously, so it should reason that they also should not be expected to stay in optimal useable condition forever either. The way that a towel feels on your skin is part of its function, and maximizing your own pleasure is a good thing.

Each time you use your towel after showering, you are shedding a bunch of skin cells and hair that you can't see.

Buy more than one new towel and put the towel in the laundry after 2 - 3 uses.
