>US DDG(X)
>JP ASEV
>RoK Joint Firepower Ship
>PRC Type 055 Super destroyer
All of these are Cruiser class in terms of displacement and number of missiles carried.
We have officially entered a global naval arms race. How will UK, France, and Russia respond?
LOOK AT ALL THAT VLS
1.7X THE SIZE OF A DDG51
>no gun
>cruiser class
>displacement and missiles
yeah anon the oldschool ship types mean fuck all now and the lines between distinct classes are pretty blurred.
>France
focused on carrier project (maybe) but I'd expect most of their attention to be on land operations in Africa
>UK
will try to build 12-8 new destroyers and end up with 6
>Russia
will build absolutely nothing.
Its not 1997 anymore, they'll plan for 6 and get 4.
Why is the UK so incredibly sad now? What the fuck happened
Peace dividend and the US being the global guarantee for trade security. Same thing as how the German military is a shadow of what it was in the cold war. Reductions in force make sense but all western nations have let the institutions that built that strength wither away. You can see this in US shipbuilding/maintenance and the overall state of the US navy not being ideal and it takes a lot of money and time to fix it. Bong economy is in a tough spot so the massive spending required to reenergize the lagging areas in the defense industry means I doubt we will even see another bong MBT after the chally 3 for example. Europe as a whole will try and move to huge multinational projects because the cost of developing things like 4th gen MBTs, carriers/destroyers, and 5/6th gen fighters is just too huge to deal with solo.
because we have gotten immensely poorer over the last 60 years
Not an argument
Decolonisation? At its peak the British Empire controlled 25% of the world. Now they control 1%. The UK currently punches far above its weight (to employ the good ol cliche) even right now.
but they still won't return the artifacts!
why should they?
they'll just get blown up or shat upon
the artifacts are better off conserved by people who appreciate them
They decided to sell out every single piece of domestic industry and every single one of their citizens in favor of basing their entire economy around London ~~*finance*~~
>domestic industry
had long been utterly shit and wasn't sustainable let alone profitable, retard, go read old 60s reports and articles about it
the smartest thing to do was to sever all nonperforming portions of the Government apparatus and lean heavily into Wall St investments, plus whatever remaining British expertise was still viable (BAe for example)
anybody who did that in the 70s would be sitting pretty on massive profits from the huge turboboost in the American economy that started then
but that's with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, of course
>had long been utterly shit and wasn't sustainable let alone profitable
>literally the epicenter of the industrial revolution
>le industrial revolution!!1!
two world wars and one empire ago, dipshit
>anybody who did that
Yeah, so ~~*finance*~~. How's life for your average bong at the moment?
Fuck your people, they don't matter as long as GDP go up! Same thing we're seeing happen here and in Canada.
>Yeah, so ~~*finance*~~
Which, as I said, stood those who capitalised on it in good stead. As a matter of fact, even Thatcher's detractors grudgingly admit that she improved the economy. Their main gripes is that certain segments of the population still suffered from economic malaise - but this is a sly skirting of the fact that without her policies, the ENTIRE FUCKING ISLAND would be in the same damn boat.
>How's life for your average bong at the moment?
Decent but not excellent, which is reflected in the British GDP. In general, GDP is a decent measure of quality of life.
>Same thing we're seeing happen here
American, I presume? Quality of life actually IS much better there than in most other places.
>and in Canada
Most Canadians would pretend that they're "not like" the barbarians down south, they're good conscientious democratic socialists. Once again, the numbers belie the facts.
You persist in seeing "finance" as some kind of bogeyman, when in reality it's simply the numerical summary of all the tangibles of life - food, shelter, conveniences, infrastructure - as well as many aspects of intangible quality, such as effectiveness, reliability, availability, etc. Countries DO need to seek GDP growth; it's the only way to continue providing benefits to its citizens.
Bad economic policy. They don't have the money for a decent navy.
They have a decent navy.
It's the army that's shit.
They have half a decent navy. Their ships are fine, they just don't have enough.
They have enough ships of excellent capability to compare with most nations on the earth especially for their size. The QEs are very successful and pose incredible boosts to the RN's striking power. It was very painful at the time, I well remember, but shuttering the Harrier force, paying off Ark Royal and using Ocean as an "economy carrier" turned out to be the right move. As always, it's usually better to bite the bullet now and invest in the future - provided said investment is properly managed.
I want the Royal Navy back so much, not the current shadow we have today. The state of the UKs military saddens me so much.
>russia
They'll go back to the drawing board on the Kuznestov and lock some mobik cubes in the lower levels in the hopes that the situation improves.
>UK
Type 83
It's called a destroyer still but the 8 series is for large general purpose frigates which are really de facto cruisers
>We have officially entered a global naval arms race. How will UK, France, and Russia respond?
>UK, France
It's unlikely either of those countries will come into direct conflict with any of the other countries you listed. I suppose the Brits could possibly be dragged into a war with China, if China were especially stupid.
>Russia
They won't. Their navy is basically rusting hulks and nothing relevant for the next 20 years. They'll have way too much going on trying to rebuild their economy and land forces.
>Russia
They'll go on about how they already have the Kirov class and how they've been right and ahead of everyone else all along and will try to brush off any reminders that only one of those is actually functional anymore.
>watered down arsenal ships
Still retarded
