My guess would be they maybe thought her SCOP mobility would be to much in a Dual Strike, or that she would be too strong for a CO you unlock relatively early. But then again you start with Colin.
Story wise it makes sense for them to have a face turn, Lash is a mad scientist with a lack of morals but not straight up evil (unethical like Nazi scientist vs Japanese ones), and Hawke is more of a patriot ("my country right or wrong") than evil. Didn't he also kill Sturm in 2?
Human wave tactics is a good way to lose to anyone with experience, mech spam loses if the enemy remembers they only have 2 move
Sami is all about capture game
You need to bring her infantry down to 3hp to interrupt a cap and strong return fire means enemy infantry cant cap either
and her faster transports means she can reach center positions with infantry faster
Fighting for objectives almost always goes her way since she is guaranteed to win trades for cities
Endgame for sami is to own more cities than the enemy so she can produce med tanks and rockets
And meme 1-turn HQ caps
>Human wave tactics is a good way to lose to anyone with experience,
Nothing beats human wave tactics in AW. You know you are fighting a casual once you see someone save up funds to build a tank or a copter instead of building infantry every turn from every factory.
>Nothing beats human wave tactics in AW
only up to a point
you only have 3-4 factories at a time, so unless you only have income of <5k, spamming infantry hits the ceiling of maximum units deployed per turn
for sami, mech spam is a viable strat against other noobs, but quickly becomes an achilles heel in large maps or enemies who will learn spacing to get the first shot vs mechs every time
sami is more classic infiltrator than human wave
constantly contesting cities in the enemies side so that they cant effectively contest center position
while insta-capping with SCOP is hilarious and gets people to throw their GBA at the wall, using it to deny 2-3 cities to the enemy and forcing them to waste several turns re-capping them and losing several thousand in lost income in the process is its real use
and then winning the game collin style once she has an economic lead, by spamming neotanks because she just has more money
No, every time. In a map with 3 factories each how long do you think it would take to reach 50 units deployed? It's 16 turns if you never lose a unit. You'll never get there because the game will be decided long before then.
You buy vehicles when you have money left over after buying infantry.
the lack of mobility from the mech also makes it hard to capitalize on a breakthrough. they do hold the line pretty well but they are not cost efficient against artillery with some infantry fodder covering likely approaches. sami still needs faster units to be able to chase down and damage vulnerable units away from the front line
Only people who never played against other humans think mech spam is even remotely viable. Mechs are expensive and are only better against vehicles. Infantry vs. infantry is what'll decide the game. Infantry is 1000 funds, can capture, has 3 moves, and takes up 1 space.
It's pretty easy to tell you've never played PvP. No human player (outside of some really retarded ones) will let you slip an infantry in past the battleline to cap the base. You have to realize that in AW there's 100% information, and even if it's FoW, all you have to do is keep an infantry on base to prevent a capture (Sami does 4-5 damage to a normal infantry on base and takes 3 damage back, but the defending infantry heals for 2 so it becomes 7 infantry vs 7 infantry on the next turn).
Honestly, the game was so loaden with...and it makes me shudder to use the word "waifus", I still don´t know why they didn´t just do the same thing to AW that they did to Fire Emblem.
Penny's theme was always my favorite DoR theme.
Everything from the electro noises to the strings to the harpsichord sounding thing and the weird fucking distorted vocals.
But the bassy harmony make me hard.
Battles should be won with artillery and air to ground aircraft bombing. If you are a general and you need infantry with issue hand weapons to win the fight you have fucked up.
Well if we want to talk about this series while still being PrepHole related you might as talk about the weapons and vehicles each faction uses and what they are based on in real life.
And it is a very nice list, very well researched.
of course black hole is all sci-fi shit (because they are aliens) with no real world counterparts, though their fighter seems to be similar to a predator drone and their infantry uses a real world fire arm.
Yeah, in the remake Black Hole's Infantry use G11s, which is rad.
Anyway, Nell is the best CO/Waifu/Theme-haver and I'm pissed you can't use her in the campaigns, so I have to settle for Sami but I'm incompetent so I just spam Mechas and yell OORAH
Well if we want to talk about this series while still being PrepHole related you might as talk about the weapons and vehicles each faction uses and what they are based on in real life.
to be fair, their mid tank is a soviet one, and green earth's fighter is a A10 for some reason.
still find it funny how YC uses a fighter, were there actually planes that had mounted missiles?
interesting how you can see soldiers on at least a couple of the other armies vehicles, but you don't see any soldiers operating the black holes ones. wonder if they are actually autonomous weapon systems.
Blue Moon's sub is a Victor Class
Rocket is one of Stalin's Organs
Smaller tank is a T-34 bigger is a IS-2
AA is ZSu-57
GE Recon is a s234 helicopter is a Hind for some reason, Battleship seems to be a Jean Bart or one of those french ones with all the turrets up front their Rocket seems to be a Nebelwefer halftrack without the tracks same with their missiles which uses the same chassis.
I do think it's a nice touch that each army uses the same chassis for the Missile and Rocket launchers
Orange Star's battleship is an Iowa with three turrets. AA is clearly a Sargant York
The BM Md is supposed to look like an IS-3, note the pike nose. GE's aesthetic is half-based on the Volksarmee, so the Hind fits. I think the YS Md is supposed to be a Type 4 Chi-To or Type 5 Chi-Ri based on the gun mantlet. No idea why the A-10 and HP.80 Victor are there, the devs must've thought they just fit the overall aesthetic.
Because APCs and transport choppers play exactly one role, moving infantry. They're meant to be used intelligently, if they can defend themselves against infantry then you'll be a lot more careless with them.
Wait so the reason why ingame AI likes to target APCs so much is because they cannot fire back?
Anonymous
I think the AI prioritizes based on what would be the best damage trade in range, and APCs/artillery are the perfect damage trade because it's 0 on their end
Long shot, and kind of obscure, but I feel like GE's AA could be a reference to the Kugelblitz SPAAG, another WW2 prototype that never reached production.
Now I wonder, how badly have Colin and Hachi fucked over the world's economy from their power alone?
I mean, one of them quite literally prints money, while the other shoves his entire fist into the supply and demand's rectum.
>don't like her gameplay. >doesnt like playing 4D chess with the enemy by abusing FoW >hates psyching the enemy out with weak units only for them to get one-shot by a medtank with 150% return fire
sonja is the closest to depicting modern airland battle with her ability to confuse the enemy with the ability to nibble at the enemy advance from every direction until its obvious where they plan to commit their strength

still find it funny how YC uses a fighter, were there actually planes that had mounted missiles?
I find it funnier how everyone else has fighter jets (and a warthog), while these guys are still running Zeros. This gap between ww2 (and even interwar) equipment on one side, and cold war on other sides, while all are equal in performance, only adds to the experience and I love it.
>I find it funnier how everyone else has fighter jets (and a warthog), while these guys are still running Zeros.
Even more funny is how YC’s leader is the one with the elite forces with the most attack and defense.
>This gap between ww2 (and even interwar) equipment on one side, and cold war on other sides, while all are equal in performance, only adds to the experience and I love it.
Of course DoR only having two army types means it’s only Cold War stuff with some WW2 stuff.
Though unlike orange star, the Rubenelle light tank is not a Bradley with a rank turret but an actual tank.
Also planes and the A10 are now a separate unit.
Interestingly enough the anti-tank is actually an anti-air weapon in real life that was just happens to be really good at killing tanks.

Should I be bothered that Flak's casual wear in the DS game looks exactly like my Cousin's well aged father? I swear, when I saw AW DS Flak's casual wear for the first time I could not help but think of my Cousin's dad since he does wear the same attire and is a PrepHole enough guy who exercises regularly. Yeah my Cousin's dad has that mid-life crisis habit of dressing like he's still young but I guess he earned the right to dress like that since he exercises regularly and aged well.
Funny you brought that up. But my Cousin's Dad HATES gambling, he learned it the hard way when he was still younger, dumber and full of cum. He gambled half of his life saving back at the time in a horse race match and lost it, got into numerous fights with his parents because of it, fights with his girlfriend-now-wife-and-said-Cousin's mother. And fast forward, he is by all means a normal family man, no issues or baggage and works as porter in a local sorting facility near my cousin's village. Still, he does always end up looking like Flak's Nintendo DS Casual Wear appearance if he especially wears a pair of shades and black highschool jersey...
>got a -40 luck on barbaric blow, and swore to never again

due to how luck mechanics work, flak is actually barely affected by luck
game doesnt calculate good and bad luck separately, it adds both of the values together and then rolls the difference
flaks powers adds X bad luck and X + 10 good luck, which cancels each other out
so you end up doing +10 average damage with only a really tiny chance of stupidly wild swings
its also why flak sucks so much
if his power actually worked to extremes, he would be great as a budget nell in infantry swarm attacks
but as it stands, he essentially plays like a vanilla CO with barely noticeably day to day powers

Wow, that’s dumb and I never realized that it works like that.
Zoomtard here, never heard about this game until I heard it mentioned on Vinesauce, and then heard /v/ bitching about arin cuckson and some other terminally online retard getting to VA the reboot's western release. Is it actually a good strategy game? Considering trying to hunt down the old gba emulator I used in high school and an emu file for this game if it's actually any good
its a very good game
metagame is still alive and changing to this very day, with people constantly creating new meme strategies that give even low tier COs use
also is a good way to teach kids the importance of combined arms warfare and to think strategically instead of tactically >infantry absolutely vital to win for capturing/contesting captures, overly tank heavy forces doomed to lose the long game >exchange rate is not the only factor in success, control of battlespace even more important >deploy units in mutually supporting positions >concentrate forces instead of spreading them out >target priority matters
>concentrate forces instead of spreading them out
Except in the few times you fight sturm when he gets his power, then you have to ether spread out your forces thin or uses a couple of units as a lure for the meteor.
Not really, and that's surprising because outside of Super Famicom Wars the games never sold all that great until they started getting brought to the west so you'd think someone would've made a knockoff of it here.
AW is kind of a rarity in that it goes both super-chibi artstyle and "Dont take it too seriously" plot that focuses heavily on heroism
but also depicting modern-ish warfare with tanks, jets, and missiles
with a fantasy setting, you largely sidestep having to remind kids that real life tanks and guns arent fun playtime
since people step into a fantasy world not expecting realism to begin with and its usually expected to have more of a fun or mythical tone
>with a fantasy setting, you largely sidestep having to remind kids that real life tanks and guns arent fun playtime
yeah guess that makes sense.
probably also why black hole become the only enemies, it easier to justify the chibi artstyle and non-serious aspects focus being combined with modern warfare when the enemy faction is a bunch of sci-fi evil aliens using pew-pew laser guns and advance weaponry.
Plus Advance wars 2 actually did have show some darker aspects of war with black hole being the only nation committing war crimes, like what lash did to Oalf's home town or the stuff adder does.
>playing Mednafen netplay with /v/ until 3am in the morning >games are boring infantry spam if both players are good >one day a retard buys a fighter jet when the opponent doesn't have a single air unit >hilarity and jovial fun ensue
Good times. /v/ was shit but less shit than now.
This game started a love affair with militaria that led to me unironically enlisting. After I graduated Infantry School I took the Samipill even though I never used her much before kek
If you haven't played it then I recommend Super Famicom Wars. It's 90% the same mechanics but there's no story so you just pick a country and commander and go through the maps. It got a fan translation like 5 years back.
>. It's 90% the same mechanics but there's no story so you just pick a country and commander and go through the maps
it actually has better AI, due to the SNES cart having more memory
also more detailed thanks to that >APCs and battleships have machine guns that only fire on the counter-attack >supply truck, APC with no armor and more movement, for your resupply needs
but the game has one tiny change that turns it into a massive grind, attacker and defender damage each other simultaneously
so attrition becomes the only tactic because med tanks parked on cities cant be shifted
so it becomes a WW1 slugfest of parking artillery
So I wonder how many of you are gonna say Greyfield reminds you, or has reminded you of an insufferable NCO or any higher ranking asshole you had the displeasure of serving under.
No, Green Earth is blatantly supposed to be Germany, Japan just kinda lumps all of Europe that isn't Russia into Germany.

The COs affilation is incredibly stupid. It almost looks like they made it as a joke. 2 econ specialists belong to russia, the only naval-focued CO is with Germans, Co buffing individual unit strength to wunderwaffe levels is commanding japanese tanks and planes. Oh, and the US artillery CO apparently defected to fucking russians.
To be fair, that artillery CO repeatedly goes on pixy-esque monologues about how he dislikes fighting over territory and borders and spent most of the first game collaborating with Sonja so it's not like it's particularly out of character for him.

>Oh, and the US artillery CO apparently defected to fucking russians. >Grit
Reminder that Grit (basically a CO of a US Artillery Division) defected to basically Russia of all places because of a Love Triangle between him, Nell and Max
it's the other way round, they did a reversal. Blue moon is russians, red start is US, green earth is germans and yellow fever is japs.

But i love it nonetheless. Its the black sheep of the series and honestly nails 'dark advance wars' so hard
Braindead take.
Days of Ruin's main villain owns an all female PMC, and this was released before Guns of the Patriots.
>Clone army of slutty girls
>His children are unhinged psychopath girl versions of himself
Was Caulder /ourguy/?
He is too based for this world.
Only thing missing is him creating android/cyborg bitches created in his (possible, plausible) sister's image.
she QT
Only the euro version which cut out all the comedy.
I hated the fact the plague in that game causes people to turn into flowers. It really took the edge away for me.
That's a reasonably clever reference to a well known anti-war song by Pete Seeger I think
Bullshit, Lin shitting all over the ending of Dual Strike was much needed.
good lord that tummy
Only because DoR didn't have Hawke to do it a thrid time.
IMO it just seems to try so hard it ends up being a laundry list of overused war movie/scifi stereotypes.
Every waifu choice besides Tasha, Lin and Waylon pretty much means you're a pedo/e-boicon.
>Wants an air CO
ENTER
How do you feel about baroque techo?
MR. Bear is a really fucking cool song.
>Every waifu choice besides Tasha, Lin and Waylon pretty much means you're a pedo/e-boicon.
No love for Zadia? baka
But I like Tabitha though.
her theme is fire https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rY5zHfGi9rE
Penny's theme was always my favorite DoR theme.
Everything from the electro noises to the strings to the harpsichord sounding thing and the weird fucking distorted vocals.
But the bassy harmony make me hard.
literally every theme in DOR fucked.
We usually played in FOW, so Sonja and Olaf are just better than everyone, with grit as an honorable mention
Sonja in her DS version is just mid in FoW. AW1 and 2 Sonja is straight up shit.
Battles should be won with artillery and air to ground aircraft bombing. If you are a general and you need infantry with issue hand weapons to win the fight you have fucked up.
Not if you can spawn infinite infantry
>t. grit & eagle
Well if we want to talk about this series while still being PrepHole related you might as talk about the weapons and vehicles each faction uses and what they are based on in real life.
Oh boy I have a list
Infantry
>OS - WW2 US theme - M1 Helmet
>YC - WW2 IJA - IJA Field cap
>GE - WW2 Germany - Stalhelm
>BM - WW2 Russia - Pilotka
Recon
>OS - Humvee
>YC - Model T kitbash
>GE - Spahpanzer Luchs
>BM - Jeep/UAZ 469
AA
>OS - Gepard
>YC - kitbash
>GE - ZSU-57-2
>BM - kitbash
Light tank
>OS - Bradley with tank turret
>YC - Renault FT
>GE - Tankette/Jagdpanzer
>BM - T-34/85
Med Tank
>OS - Abrams
>YC - KV-2
>GE - Open topped Mk1-4
>BM - T-55
Artillery
>OS - M109
>YC - ?
>GE - ?
>BM - Hummel
Missile
All of them are modeled on Roland
APC
>OS - M113
T-copter
All modeled on CH-47 family
B-copter
>OS - Apache
>YC - Gazelle
>GE - Hind

>OS - B-52
>YC - Turbofan B-17/B-29 kitbash
>GE - A-10 mutated into a 4 engine bomber
>BM - Avro Vulcan
And it is a very nice list, very well researched.
of course black hole is all sci-fi shit (because they are aliens) with no real world counterparts, though their fighter seems to be similar to a predator drone and their infantry uses a real world fire arm.
Yeah, in the remake Black Hole's Infantry use G11s, which is rad.
Anyway, Nell is the best CO/Waifu/Theme-haver and I'm pissed you can't use her in the campaigns, so I have to settle for Sami but I'm incompetent so I just spam Mechas and yell OORAH
I want her to whip me into shape and call me a good boy
the black hole rocket launchers also look like The TF2 version of the M202 FLASH
GE AA seems to be a kugelblitz
YC light tank can also be the Type_95_Ha-Go_light_tank
GE Medium Tank looks WW1 inspired because of the huge treads, and their Tank looks a bit like a German assault gun. Like a miniature Brummbär or StuH.
lmao I just realized that Green Earth are basically gnatsies
why does everyone say YC's tank is a Renault FT? I know nobody cares about ww2 japanese armor but this is just ridiculous.
I mean, it does look more like a FT than it does a Ha-Go. Not a 1-on-1, but still.
Cause most people know jack shit about the Japanese armor that they made like 200 off
That's a Thai tank, sempai.
to be fair, their mid tank is a soviet one, and green earth's fighter is a A10 for some reason.
still find it funny how YC uses a fighter, were there actually planes that had mounted missiles?
Blue moon's transport helo is the H-21 flying banan
interesting how you can see soldiers on at least a couple of the other armies vehicles, but you don't see any soldiers operating the black holes ones. wonder if they are actually autonomous weapon systems.
Maybe the A-10 is supposed to be some kind of ugly hybrid between a ME262 and an A-10?
anyone else notice that the battleships actually have more weapons then just the battleship turrets but never uses them?
Why don't they just slap on a machine gun on an APC so it's not completely defenseless
Because APCs and transport choppers play exactly one role, moving infantry. They're meant to be used intelligently, if they can defend themselves against infantry then you'll be a lot more careless with them.
Wait so the reason why ingame AI likes to target APCs so much is because they cannot fire back?
I think the AI prioritizes based on what would be the best damage trade in range, and APCs/artillery are the perfect damage trade because it's 0 on their end
Long shot, and kind of obscure, but I feel like GE's AA could be a reference to the Kugelblitz SPAAG, another WW2 prototype that never reached production.
No it's a M42 Duster
Yellow Comet
Recon: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vickers_Crossley_armoured_car
APC:

Missing rockets
Is the remake worth buying?
Eagle bros, I don't feel so good
>Breaks the fucking economy
She acute
Now I wonder, how badly have Colin and Hachi fucked over the world's economy from their power alone?
I mean, one of them quite literally prints money, while the other shoves his entire fist into the supply and demand's rectum.
Best waifu of the whole aw saga
And the most elegant female video game character imo
Javier is so lucky
https://tiermaker.com/create/advance-wars-1-2-ds-dor-368208
Penis detected.
I'm a simple man
This man really loves his terrain stars.
hehe coral reef go brrrr
>Sonja
>that low
This better be ranking in terms of gameplay and not waifu strength
He must've played a fog of war match once and got ptsd from it
>playing with FoW off
Utterly revolting
Sonja is literally a nerdy asian know-it-all child.
Don't like how she looks, don't like her character, don't like her gameplay.
>don't like her gameplay.
>doesnt like playing 4D chess with the enemy by abusing FoW
>hates psyching the enemy out with weak units only for them to get one-shot by a medtank with 150% return fire
sonja is the closest to depicting modern airland battle with her ability to confuse the enemy with the ability to nibble at the enemy advance from every direction until its obvious where they plan to commit their strength
I think most of the AW girls are cute
They really did her justice in the remake
It's a solid remake, I had fears about the designs at first but then I got to actually play it and it's just straight up the first 2 games but now the AI doesn't blatantly cheat
It's weird because WayForward made this and somehow DIDN'T add sex appeal like their other games
Probably because Nintendo would punishment for it. They probably see advance wars as bring for the same demographic as Mario, Zelda, and Kirby ect
it basically is. a little more selective but so is metroid
They made it horny where they were allowed to
Last one
she cute!
>Animated Sami
I hate how the units look like a phone game, was hoping there'd be an option for pixel graphics.
I literally sent Wayforward an email last year bitching about the graphics. I tried it on a friend's console, I might actually buy a Nintendo Switch because of this game.
I don’t think that be possible for a model to pixie switch.
Just needed a little jiggle and it would be got tier
The jiggle got explicitly cut, it used to have jiggle in an earlier version.
>tfw the "power of money" is buying nukes and DU shells and bribing the press not to report on it
Man, this really makes me wanna buy the remake.
Get when it's on sale. Does Nintendo even do sales?
No and if you ask again they'll slap you with a gag order.
Not really, no. Maybe they´ll have it 5% of in 3 years, at best.
How do you have Sonja, Penny and Tabitha that low?
>Tasha, Lash and Jess high
Oh you are a lesbian. I understand now.
>not liking Tasha and Lash
>not wanting to have rough sex with Tasha or Lash
now that’s gay
Tasha has the same vibes as Tabitha but dialed back about 7000 notches. If you fucked Tabitha you'd wake up the next morning to her mauling you with a kitchen knife. Tasha's the best girl and is better in every concievable way to two e-bois and Sergeant Daddy Issues.
I dunno, based on my experience with fanart Sonja is pretty popular with lesbians.
Never forget the fact that Andy is the best CO because he is well balanced and likes wrenches.
god i loved this fuckin game, sitting back with grit and shelling the absolute shit out of anything that moves. sensei has the best theme though, i'll give him that
He has a very large *range*, much bigger than Max's
stop consorting with the enemy nell
That's the funny thing Grit actually defected to the Commies because he wanted to get out of the love triangle.
That's the most retarded reason to defect to an authoritarian socialist regime ever.
thankfully the dictory of that regime is a grumpy and stubborn Santa Claus.
Oh no a lardass I'm so scared
Not a lard ass, just baggy suit. You can see his alt at the bottom.
You should be scared.
Who is this man and how can I become him
>how can I become him
Simply become robot and embrace RNG.
Adder's giving off some serious Marilyn Manson vibes, even more than usual
nothing says blitzkrieg quite like this smug fuck's theme
Really don't like how they did his redesign, but otherwise everything is perfect. The theme's a banger.
>This gap between ww2 (and even interwar) equipment on one side, and cold war on other sides, while all are equal in performance, only adds to the experience and I love it.
while also being equal to an the technologically advance black hole.
>General Sturm we have spent billions developing a plasma cannon that is just as effective as regular tank cannon, sir.
>Excellent. everything is going according to plan.
That track is fucking sick, I'm erect
Hachi's channeling some Cotton Hill energy. I also want to fuck the shit out of Lash and Sasha!
Don't let Uncle Flak touch anything gambling related
But his powers theme slaps hard.
Wow, that’s dumb and I never realized that it works like that.
Where are the PrepHoleike mods? How is a /v/ thread still on PrepHole after two days?
This theme is 1000% soul
Just grabbed these two it is nice being able to get 1/4 at MSRP. Having to get them at a mark up is too painful
why is this old fart the best CO?
A printer that prints roof koreans
Because it's like Korean War except the Maoists come out of every city.
It's like korean war maoists with American air support
Zoomtard here, never heard about this game until I heard it mentioned on Vinesauce, and then heard /v/ bitching about arin cuckson and some other terminally online retard getting to VA the reboot's western release. Is it actually a good strategy game? Considering trying to hunt down the old gba emulator I used in high school and an emu file for this game if it's actually any good
its a very good game
metagame is still alive and changing to this very day, with people constantly creating new meme strategies that give even low tier COs use
also is a good way to teach kids the importance of combined arms warfare and to think strategically instead of tactically
>infantry absolutely vital to win for capturing/contesting captures, overly tank heavy forces doomed to lose the long game
>exchange rate is not the only factor in success, control of battlespace even more important
>deploy units in mutually supporting positions
>concentrate forces instead of spreading them out
>target priority matters
>concentrate forces instead of spreading them out
Except in the few times you fight sturm when he gets his power, then you have to ether spread out your forces thin or uses a couple of units as a lure for the meteor.
Yes, it's a good game and most people agree it's a good remake, just not "worth 60 bucks" good.
$60 for a Gameboy game? What are they smoking?
It's 2 games. AW 1 and 2 and an online versus mode
Still worth 30.
Eh if they said 40-50 I'd think that's acceptable because AW is an excellent series of games.
I can get all that for free though.
Sure and I pirated it too, but it's because I don't have a switch and can't play otherwise.
I was just saying what content it has.
you can play it on your phone doe
The versus sucks ass though
Mmmm Orange juice 🙂
Saved
Are there any games like Advance Wars on PC?
Not really, and that's surprising because outside of Super Famicom Wars the games never sold all that great until they started getting brought to the west so you'd think someone would've made a knockoff of it here.
there are a few, except quite a few of them are medieval rather then modern.
might have something to do with marketing
Sure but that's what I mean, they're more like FE than AW.
Advance wars by web (awbw) for online multiplayer.
There's also Wargroove which is similar. But PvP is dead.
>Are there any games like Advance Wars on PC?
I guess wargroove if you only care about mechanics and not setting.
>playing Mednafen netplay with /v/ until 3am in the morning
>games are boring infantry spam if both players are good
>one day a retard buys a fighter jet when the opponent doesn't have a single air unit
>hilarity and jovial fun ensue
The only thing I know about SFW is that Hitler is a playable CO
*Hetler
Also his theme is called Springtime.
>. It's 90% the same mechanics but there's no story so you just pick a country and commander and go through the maps
it actually has better AI, due to the SNES cart having more memory
also more detailed thanks to that
>APCs and battleships have machine guns that only fire on the counter-attack
>supply truck, APC with no armor and more movement, for your resupply needs
but the game has one tiny change that turns it into a massive grind, attacker and defender damage each other simultaneously
so attrition becomes the only tactic because med tanks parked on cities cant be shifted
so it becomes a WW1 slugfest of parking artillery
>Advance Wars thread in PrepHole of all places
So I wonder how many of you are gonna say Greyfield reminds you, or has reminded you of an insufferable NCO or any higher ranking asshole you had the displeasure of serving under.
He's a pretty weak commander with a weak early game and and a weak endgame and a CO power that comes three turns too late.
Sensei is banned from PvP because he's too overpowered.
Surprising no one has posted the generic soldiers/operators of the respective nations yet... Posting it now.
wait a minute that nose
I thought Orange (Red) Star was Russians.
it's the other way round, they did a reversal. Blue moon is russians, red start is US, green earth is germans and yellow fever is japs.
Green Earth is surely the (pre-Brexit) EU army.
>Drake = Britbong
>Javier = Spain
>Jess = LGBTQ?
No, Green Earth is blatantly supposed to be Germany, Japan just kinda lumps all of Europe that isn't Russia into Germany.
Black Hole is straight up space aliens.
Yet the stupidest of all might be the CO with best recon and intel being Japanese.
shit, you're fucking right
To be fair, that artillery CO repeatedly goes on pixy-esque monologues about how he dislikes fighting over territory and borders and spent most of the first game collaborating with Sonja so it's not like it's particularly out of character for him.
>Oh, and the US artillery CO apparently defected to fucking russians.
>Grit
Reminder that Grit (basically a CO of a US Artillery Division) defected to basically Russia of all places because of a Love Triangle between him, Nell and Max
And what is Black Hole supposed to be? Just a hodgepodge or kitbash of a sci-fi space age nation? Give the Black Hole soldiers wear space age EVA looking suits
Nazi space aliens, basically. A mishmash of high-tech villainy without any specifc nation.
though their mid tank does give off a tiger tank vibe to it.
Ecuador, Uruguay, Brazil, argentina
Thank you to the various people who discussed the importance of infantry spam, I'm shit at this game and that knowledge has been very helpful in the campaign.
