>Rhodesian and South African shit being popular is only based if your take on it is because their infantry were incredibly good, their overall strategy for fighting insurgencies were very good and that they were white fighting to have their own countries in Africa against the hordes, none of that "their camo is cool and so are their shorts, isn't that funny? lmao" type shit

>hi points and PSA rifles are great for an American insurgency because they're cheap and you can ditch them if you have to, like how an actual insurgency fights inna real war. You don't want any expensive shit on your rifle because you have to be willing to ditch it

the problem with that is that carriers and cruise missiles will still do a better job of shore bombardment.

strong agree, although I usually use car accidents as an analogy, if you're sperging out on defensive guns instead of defensive driving and vehcile crash safety, just reconigze that and try to devote your gun sperging to more interesting guns than just the optimal CC or HD gun.

well it worked in WWII and in what situation will it be safe for one guy to walk into, but not the whole squad?
For killzones you just want to avoid them entirely and if that's no possible, bounding as a fire team is better because you have people supporting you.

the whole point of the scouts in the squad was so that they would run area/point reconnaissance or would be the ones to bound out first while still being able to hide. It only takes a handful of guys in a group to make that group impossible to sneak around. Two dudes snooping around is a lot easier than four, and eight to nine is pretty much not happening.

the scout section was not practical and quickly dropped

          >Two dudes snooping around is a lot easier than four, and eight to nine is pretty much not happening.
modern day fire-teams is literally just an evolution of WW2 tactics
WW2 squads essentially maneuvered as a giant fireteam, one squad fires while one squad maneuvers, the large size of the units involved due to the lack of experienced NCOs and the large amount of men in a single space

modern fireteams evolved out of that, with the maneuvering elements being reduced down to squads because they were finally able to re-organize their NCO selection
as well as being a necessity due to the vastly smaller army they had after the war

          Anonymous

          >Two dudes snooping around is a lot easier than four
no, hardly at all really. If the enemy is currently observing the area, it's not gonna matter and if they're not, the human eye is best at picking up movement and two guys moving around isn't going to attract much less attention than four. Even just ONE guy moving around is going to attract attention.

Also if you're spotted/fired upon, the thing to do is to go prone and if you're too close to the enemy for that to really be effective, than it's better to just have more guys who can shoot back.

And the one memoir off the top of my head that talked a fair bit about scouting (Unpublished Activities of WWII by Earl Roberts). Mentioned how their scouting was done by 6-8 guys hand picked across the platoon and it was something they'd do after having established a defensive position to get more information about what was beyond then. When they did platoon movements they used a point man and moved as squads.

Also, unless you have multiple people living in your house, there’s no need to hunt and sweep your home if you think someone broke in. Just pick a good defensive spot and hold it.

the rebels in any kind of boog would get their shit pushed in by the government.

    >muh Iraq and Afghanistan
ignoring the fact that Afghanistan has been waging tribal warfare with each other for literally forever and the initial Iraq insurgents were the entirety of the Iraqi army who were fired and had full access to the Iraqi military arsenal because the US fired them before securing it. Meanwhile the typical American works retail or an office job and hasn't been in a fight since middle school.

The main thing is that in Iraq and Afghanistan, the only people and equipment the US had were the people and shit they transported to the other side of the world. Whereas in the US they'll have access to all domestic law enforcement capabilities plus the US military. For example, the Boston bombings, The suspects weren't even at the scene at the time it happened and they were apprehended in 3 days. And that was pretty much a perfect lone wolf attack with only two brothers involved, no traveling and using cell phones or the internet to talk with people throughout a city or county. Additionally within hours of the bombing hundreds of LE were participating in the manhunt for the bombers. At one point it was near 10k which is almost the number of US troops at the second battle of falujah.

At the end of the day, 99% of working vehicles are registered with the government and tied to an owner. All citizens have a photo id, which the US didn't have for Iraq and Afghanistan. State and and large city LE have helicopters and drones for surveillance.

Also Americans are 100% economically dependent on "the system". Unlike the Pashtun tribesmen, the US govt could easily cut off supplies to a problem area and only hand out supplies to people who consent to having their homes, electronic devices and vehicles searched, etc. All that shit about how everything would shut down after 48 hours without trucking works both ways.

The interlinked global economy makes it impossible, American hegemony makes it impossible, and every day that passes the world market only grows more intertwined, and war even less worth it as the very things you'd gain from conquest are destroyed in the act of doing so

      >In The Great Illusion, Angell's primary thesis was, in the words of historian James Joll, that "the economic cost of war was so great that no one could possibly hope to gain by starting a war the consequences of which would be so disastrous." For that reason, a general European war was very unlikely to start, and if it did, it would not last long. He argued that war was economically and socially irrational and that war between industrial countries was futile because conquest did not pay.
      >According to Angell, the economic interdependence between industrial countries would be "the real guarantor of the good behavior of one state to another", as it meant that war would be economically harmful to all the countries involved.

Isn’t this part of the reason why England stripped itself of it’s colonies after WWI. The politicians needed a reason for the war and they were basically forced to demonize the Germans and claim the whole war was over democracy. Their initial reasoning was the threat of a powerful german navy stealing their colonies

          >why England stripped itself of it’s colonies after WWI
if you mean after WWII and retroactively changing the cause of the war yes, although it was the Japs rather than the Germans, since they were actually conquering British colonies.
The casus belli for Germany was pretty much he's Napoleon 2.0 who's a mad dictator trying to conquer Europe to spread his revolution.
The Russians/Soviets actually stuck with that narrative, but the west retroactively changed it to muh democracy and hall of cost.

      are gay and stupid
nah, they're a massive game changer, right now they're in a similar state as tanks in WWI (although granted drones won't have the strategic impact of tanks, but do/will tactically).
Being able to have a recon drone at the squad level is a big deal. The drone drops and kamikaze drones are just a bonus, but recon element is massive.

Another aspect where they're becoming a game changer is larger vehicles like boats, tankettes and planes. A shitload of space and equipment is dedicated to crew livability, being able to get rid of a crew and have a smaller vehicle will be a big deal. We're already seeing this in Ukraine with those little drone kamikaze boats knocking out full size war ships.

As for tankettes, imagine a vehicle a quarter of the size of a bradley with the same bushmaster gun and/or tow missiles being able to pop over ridge lines or start assaults without endangering any soldiers.
      >>NODs are a really good investment, but you'll probably never use them
I think that kind of makes them a bad investment by definition lol.

about so much more than guns.
A lot of states have explicit laws that don't allow a fine for going 1-5 mph over the limit. The fine is "warning". But I can't tell you how many people I have heard claim that you won't get a ticket if you're "only going 10 over". No, they can stop you for going 1 mph over, but it only becomes profitable if it's more than 5mph over.
Read the laws and you too can speed risk-free at 5 over the limit everywhere except for school zones and construction zones with workers present.

    >if armor is needed, then you're better off with lvl 3A vests for frag protection while still staying light
Plate carriers are less taxing in heat and they actually stop projectiles.

Anyone who creates and/or posts in "unpopular opinion" threads should be permanently IP banned without any chance for appeal
Threads like these are the den of cowards and fools, so that they may freely express their awful ideas without fear from derision and pushback that they would recieve in a normal discussion
Yes, the irony of making such a post isn't lost on me

Buying flat triggers for literally everything is the STUPIDEST shit and a peak example of cargo cultishness in shooting circles.
Yes the competition shooter with a pencil-lead weight 1911 trigger uses them, no that does not mean you'll shoot better because the mediocre striker trigger on your CCW is flat.

and South African shit being popular is only based if your take on it is because their infantry were incredibly good, their overall strategy for fighting insurgencies were very good and that they were white fighting to have their own countries in Africa against the hordes, none of that "their camo is cool and so are their shorts, isn't that funny? lmao" type shit
Can't so both? Also, where can I read about the Rhodesian tactics/strategies?

    bullpups
    >Trigger is equally as good/bad as basically every other non-race gun, semi auto rifle ever. The people who complain about, or say they refuse to own/shoot bullpups because of the trigger, are people who cannot afford a bullpup and likely do not own any other gun either
    >My only complaint is that the generally "taller" butt plates feel weird and awkward while wearing a typical plate carrier, and that the rearward magazine sometimes catches on my mag placard depending on how I move, but both are literally skill issues that would disappear with any actual training besides me fricking around innawoods

    handguns/cc
    >There is genuinely zero reason to carry 45 in the current year, when any conceivable reason you'd want that caliber for is vastly outperformed by other calibers
who carries 45 for any reason besides "because I like it/I want to" and tries to rationalize why it's a good carry round should not be trusted when discussing guns or really any other facet of life if their thought process is that fricked
    >unless you live in a hypothetical state where you cannot carry a gun that holds more than 6 rounds, there is equally zero justifiable reason (other than "because I want to") to cc a revolver, especially a snubby
    >holsters should either be kydex with a decent mechanical retention on your gun, or leather with an additional retention strap. Anything else is designed/manufactured/sold by people who do not own or carry guns

    pocket knives

I used to think anything about 4 inches was pointless, tips fedora, but now I dont give a shit

plate carriers and sapi plates specifically
      >(You) don't need armor. If you want them because you want them, zero issue with that- but the fantasy that you're going to/want to catch a rifle round square in the chest is moronic
      >if (You) want to wear front and rear plates for some kind of imagined threat, you better have side plates too, because if you dont that is absolute larping
keeping in mind that larping is fine if you admit that it is- too many homosexuals pretend that they're under hourly threat of being sniped and thats why they need RMA plates
      >should go without saying but if your plate carrier is covered in shit you don't need, have a nice day

        >MREs are fine I guess if you're larping near a vehicle or "base" where you don't have the ability to cook shit from scratch, but don't have to carry around heavy ass MREs very far. If you go online and pretend that you backpack and hike regularly with multiple MREs because "MREs are better" then again have a nice day you lying homosexual
        >what clothes you choose to wear literally doesn't matter as long as it works for you, and dont let anybody convince you otherwise
        >ignore online role players in comms threads who autistically regurgitate what they misunderstood from skimming an article on encryption or anything else, all you "need" is any water resistant (i.e. not chinkfeng) ht (or even bubble pack walkie talkies if you and your friends are close enough and dont have any trees or hills or buildings between you) that doesn't have frs/gmrs frequencies locked out. I promise you with complete certainty you don't have anything you need to say that needs to be encrypted. If you have the energy to go for it, it doesn't hurt, but don't let actual armchair morons tell you that you "need" encryption
        >goretex in boots is a horrendous idea because 1. it literally doesn't work as advertised in the best of conditions and 2. when it inevitably rips it makes your boots actually worse
jackets/pants isn't as totally as stupid but I vehemently believe wearing a plastic poncho and just waiting out the rain is far, far smarter. If you "need" rain proof clothes so you can keep walking/working in the rain with such physical exertion that you "need" the "breathability" of goretex you've already fricked up beyond what any meme gimmick can offer you

          >the dudes who actually hunt don't go on the internet and don't talk about it beyond "yeah you kill the animal, why are you making it so complicated you sperg"
          >waiting in a tree stand is actually "smart", but too many homosexuals sit in a tree stand and then go around online and in person to people who didn't ask bragging about how they walk for hundreds of miles shirtless through the forest and best a 50 point buck in fair combat, usually while they're preparing their hourly insulin injection

You're hiking as a civilian. You can sit down and cook whenever the frick you want. Larping you can at least come up with the gay excuse that you totally need a specific gelatinous entree you can eat cold, but that's really gay and there's a reason every gay who actually rucks as an infantryman recommends a jetboil now.

Ukraine will lose the war due to political bullshittery reasons, and the United States +NATO couldn't invade Russia and win because political bullshittery reasons will handicap them. Also F-35 stealth jets can't hold the enormous fricking Russian front and protect it against partisans.

16-20 inch ARs are adequate or even ideal for most civilian and military needs and the obsession with SBRs in the market comes from the us govt trying to kick doors in the middle east where they couldn’t just JDAM every building with bad guys like in a hot war and the market following hypebeast trends
