It's more important than it sounds (quoth Mongo, "Has to do with where choo-choo go"). It's on the direct rail line to Kreminna and Lysychansk. If the UAF takes any part of the line, supplies have to take a longer route through Starobilsk, which also means trying to cram the same number of trains onto fewer lines. And logistics has been Russia's Achilles' Heel from Day 1.

The Russian superiority complex over Ukraine is fascinating. Any time they lose ground, it's the fault of NATO super soldiers, the Brits, black Americans, or Poles. They can't ever admit they're losing to Ukrainians doing 98% of the fighting.

        Anonymous

Russia CANNOT admit that Ukraine is an equal in any regard. Even after over 8 months of hard fighting, several instances of tactical expertise, and defying expectations multiple times, the Russians and their supporters still refer the Ukrainians with childish insults and refuse to give them even the most begrudging of respects. To do so, in the eyes of the Putinist Russian, is to admit that Russia is not on top of the world, that there are perhaps others deserving of respect and having to be treated as equals.

Hasn't Wagner been sending thousands of guys to their deaths for months trying to advance on this town? What was the purpose of this? Do the troops know they're doomed? Are they just so fatalistic they just advance or do they fear trying to flee even more?

      Anonymous

There was/is a conspiracy that Wagner just wants to fleece Russia, so they send their conscript morons to contest a few hills, and then the leadership takes out a payday from every photo-op of captured "fortress" position.

      Anonymous

It's the prisoners Wagner recruits, they get a pardon if they serve 6 months but are executed if they retreat or refuse.
So they really aren't losing anything of value, dont have to pay out wages if they die and get paid for any ground they take.

There was/is a conspiracy that Wagner just wants to fleece Russia, so they send their conscript morons to contest a few hills, and then the leadership takes out a payday from every photo-op of captured "fortress" position.

The claim is at the start of the war, there was a bonus given out to Wagner if they captured Bakhmut. It was important alongside the other shit they captured. The bonus hasn't been rescinded (apparently) so Wagner is sending the thousands of inmates they took out of prison to try and capture it. If they capture it, Wagner's leaders get a bonus and there is fewer guys to pay a share of it (if any) and Russia gets an important location (that isn't important any more but would be if they got other areas nearby). The bonus hasn't been removed because the prison population needs to be culled so it's a good incentive to just throw undesirables at it until you either capture it or run out of undesirables. It also has the bonus if meaning Ukrainians not being able to move shit around to elsewhere.

I understand that sending prisoners to their deaths might seem like a net gain for Russia, but what happens to all these dead soldiers weapons, ammo, and flak jackets?
It’s not like Wagner has an infinite supply of weapons.
Also their armored equipment is in Bakhmut and it’s getting rekt left and right.

These are one of a kind GMC (Gulag Military Company).
Their prison recruits are shot on the spot for trying to flee or surrender, or in case the 'container therapy' won't work. Like, I mean, locking those refusing to fight in a shipping container for days, without food and water, and occasionaly shooting at the said container if silence is not upheld.
After 3 days of containment a choice is offered - to join the fight or to be shot as a coward.
Oh, btw, they 'put the lights out' if you receive serious injury that requires immediate medevac and would leve you a cripple anyway.

      Seems solid for 150k rubles/month.

theres been theories that wagner officers and shit just cash in the paycheck of their dead soldiers by saying their "still alive" even though they died in mass suicide numero 2312
Higher ranking Wagners are unironically making shitloads of money compared to everyone else in the military right now

Thank you, I am now demoralized. I will no longer believe any of the OSINT community, and instead listen to russian MoD and telegram channels, as they provide information the west is trying to bury.

I remembered reading an article saying that some Russian soldiers were shocked to find Nutella in some Uke homes, as if it was a sign of untold luxury.
And I thought the American standard of living was trash.

                >I just dont get it.
Most of west don't. That's why we belters are so concerned. We know damn well Russians could turn the world into nuclear apocalypse and their average citizen wouldn't even notice. Their every day life is nuclear apocalypse. That's why it's so important hitting where it hurts - no cozy bunker for Putler or fancy over seas villas for oligarchs.

It's funny because this just shows that OSINT actually cares of delivering accurate updates and fix their mistakes
