Uncle's PTR-91

I have the chance to get a PTR-91 for about $900. Should I take it?

tl:dr:
>my uncle passed away a few months back
>his wife ghosts the rest of my family and dumps his gun off at the local gunshop he used to work at
>gunshop dudes are very good people though, close with my family and were pallbearers at my uncle's funeral
>the owner called my family and let us know that he's got my uncle's guns from her and is able to sell them to us for what my uncle paid for them

My uncle is the person who introduced me to guns and taught me everything I know. He had several other firearms too, I dont know what all else he had but I know the PTR-91 for sure. I've big bore rifles before and don't really have a *need* for one and I dont have sentimental value to the rifle in particular. My uncle had just got it but never had a chance to shoot it. Ive Ctually been looking for a new CC piece, but could afford either or. So has anyone here fired/owned a PTR-91? HK parts are interchangeable with it right?

Nah, a good fricking is too good for her, do a r*pe and treat her like the traitor prostitute she is, although she may find this preferable.

      >Did they pay the wife for the guns?
      >Consignment? Why are they selling them back to you

I dont know the details. I'm going with some other family members in the morning to check it and the rest of his guns out. I dont have any experience with HK guns really. I just got my AR-15 set up how I like it.

I was actually looking at a new CC piece or a Calico M-100. Kind of a goofy thing but I've always thought they're cool. But looking at reviews and stuff for these PTR rifles I'm thinking this would be too good of a deal to pass up.

My uncle didn't have any kids of his own and I dont have any cousins either so I otherwise would've inherited his guns. Myself and the rest of my family had offered to buy them from my aunt but like I said she's ghosted us. I know $900ish is a damn good price for this rifle. I'm just the kind of person who spends a few weeks researching a gun before I buy it.

Go for it. It's a good gun at a fair price and you'll regret it in a few years if you don't.

I don’t own one but heard mixed reviews from century arms, if the barrels wears out or dies you can get a better one

PTR91s are not Cetmes or C308s. They are made in the US by PTR Industries, not imported or made by Century Arms.

They’re solid rifles. $900 is a fair price at this point with how prices have raised since 2020. Classic, reliable, and accurate enough for their intended purpose. Idk that I like it more than my FAL, but it’s cool.

C308s are CETME are surplus parts kits plus some PTR produced parts assembled by drunk monkeys. The old PTR91s were parts kits that at least used licensed tooling. New ones are mostly all in-house.

          CETME, PTR, all rook same

You’re moronic. The Century rifles were parts kit builds that were botched and out of spec more often than not since they were HK/Cetme frankenguns. That is why they are reviewed poorly. PTR has much higher QC standards and the out of spec lemons are a rarity rather than the norm.

The C308s were assembled for Century by PTR. Some of their parts may have had more than the usual acceptable PTR levels of wear but the assembly quality was decent.

Early fully Century build CETME builds were indeed godawful. Good thing their bad reputation bled over and I got a good deal on my C308.

                >levels of wear
PTR made the receivers and barrels. The rest are CETME milsurp parts kits that Century bought by the crate load.

Depending on how you feel about it, you will chuck a live round across the room and possibly through a window when clearing the weapon.

Also, the barrel/handguard gets hot as shit if you fire rapidly.

PTRs are fun rifles. $900 is a decent price. Plus, it belonged to your uncle. Did you like him? Do you like guns?
    Also, your aunt seems awful.

Also set up a trust and a Roth IRA for easy wealth transfer. This needs to be done before you are a geriatric as well. I cannot tell you how much old fricks struggle to get their shit together before they die and it leads to tragic shit like this.

Yeah that's a decent price. Very fun gun in my opinion, definitely worth it.
    All G3,HK91,etc parts fit.
PTR can have some QC misses, but if your uncle shot it at all, I assume it's good.

Yes that's an incredibly good deal and it's the most solid budget battle rifle out there.

If you end up not wanting it you can flip around and sell it for prolly 500 bucks more than that down the road.

Your aunt is a b***h, who should've just asked if people wanted it though instead of stealing your uncles shit. Family needs to curb her ass before she sells his fricking bones, and blows it all on heroin

    >uncle dies
    >Aunt grabs all his guns and sells them
    >Store offers to sell them to OP for what they paid Aunt

No idea why some anons ITT are perplexed by this. As for whether or not you should buy them, OP. Yes, you should. Firearms hold a certain sentimental value that very few other physical objects can. Even if you don't shoot it, if you can afford to buy it, then you should do so as a reminder of a lost loved one.

My dad gave me a break open 20 gauge when I was ten or eleven. When I was in my early 20s I used it as collateral on a loan from a "friend." When I tried to buy it back a month later he told me that he didn't want to sell it. So I tried for three years until eventually he offered to sell it at twice what it was worth. I bought it and sent it down to my uncle, where it lives in his safe. The memories associated with that shotgun are worth way more than I ever could have paid.

The entire point of collateral is you get it back when the loan is repaid. I hope you never talked to that fricking homosexual again after that.

You misread. Store offers to sell for what the uncle paid for them.
      Uncle pays retail value.
Aunt sells to shop for pennies.
Shop sells to anon at retail value.

      It's ridiculous.

OP here. My uncle worked at the gunshop and got generous employee discounts. The owner used to work with my grandparents and my uncle had known him since childhood. The gunshop bros are good people and have been very kind to my family.

My uncle was one of those old timers who personally knew every other old timer you'd see at all the state and county gunshows. I loved going with him because of all the stories they'd share and all the knowledge he had. My uncle might have been a bit on the spectrum because he knew *everything* about guns before the internet. He traded, bought, and sold machine guns back before the ban. Reloaded, hunted bores down south. Back in the 80's he won a hunting competition for getting largest wild hog. I dont have any of that stuff, it all belongs to my aunt.

I've been rambling and this isn't Reddit. The PTR is a kickers gun and I'm very happy with my purchase. /k/arry on men.

    >should I buy it

I had a PTR and it was a piece of shit.

    >would constantly jam
    >ergos sucked
    >sheet metal was rough on all edges

Your mileage may vary but god damn I hated the thing. Another thing I disliked about it was that you could never chamber it quietly. The metal around all edges was sharp as shit so my hands would always be bleeding when I had to pull back the handle. I suspect something was wrong with mine because the charging handle required the force of thor to rack.

Shooting was fun and accurate, when it decided to work. Rapes brass

Mine sold for 900 after 3 months of waiting. Again your mileage may vary but that gun put a bad taste in my mouth for both HK and lock/roller guns

I have a PTE 91 with the metal lower not the polymer one. It's g2g it's a great rifle.

The polymer lower ones are more common but also not bad

This makes me very happy. I'm glad you managed to recuperate some of your uncle's guns. Sad you had to pay for them (even though $900 is a good price), instead of getting them for free from your uncle. Time to celebrate.

You can get the surplus alloy mags for cheaper than probably any other rifle out there. Typically $8-$10 a piece depending on the condition. I’d also recommend getting a wide handguard for extended shooting for this

You can also get a specific bipod that attaches and folds into the wide handguards, but they can be a little pricey. I think there’s some company making reproductions now though
