This article talks about the possibility of having a soviet era jet and just a tablet duct taped to the dashboard as the launch interface for the HARM so wikipedia gays have immediately copy pasted it like it's gospel.
The LAU-118/A with Aircraft Launch Interface Computer (ALIC) is all that is needed. Some way to get the right voltage to it through a harness adapter combined with maybe a simplug which makes the airplane's on-board electronics think it's talking to an R-27 and not an AGM-88b HARM. I honestly don't think the tablet has anything to do with the integration, or fire control of the HARM. You just need to get a fire pulse to the HARM with the right voltage, and you're good to go. The programming of the HARM goes through the ALIC, which can be programmed on the ground. The ALIC is circled and highlighted in picrel.
>I honestly don't think the tablet has anything to do with the integration
I'm with you there, to be honest it just looks like a GPS to me. I mean, aren't the Uke MiGs bog standard 29As? Their Nav systems must be ancient.
Anyway, I've been of the opinion they've been firing in Pre-Brief from the start, this talk about NATO MiG parts with 1553 integration allowing full HARM functionality seems like too strong a dose of Hopium. afaik just having that data bus installed is only the start of things anyway, you'll need to do a lot more to get full functionality.

I would bet that they are preplanned on the ground and the tablet thing is just fricking nonsense as usual from the drive. Early HARM variants are INS only, so they would require communication with the aircraft to determine the launch position while later ones appear to have GPS receivers. If the missile is preprogrammed to attack a geographic area then all that needs to be done is for the pilot to fly to an acceptable launch region (indicated on the nav suite on the tablet) and pull the trigger, only mod to the aircraft electronics is enabling it to give the launch impulse.
If they jury-rigged it to transfer INS information from the soviet systems to the HARM, that would be a really interesting feat.
>I would bet that they are preplanned on the ground and the tablet thing is just fricking nonsense as usual from the drive.
Me too, I guarantee they're running AGM-88b's with block II software in Pre-Briefed (PB) mode, and Tyler is a brainlet as usual. >Early HARM variants are INS only, so they would require communication with the aircraft to determine the launch position while later ones appear to have GPS receivers. Yeah, if you watch the RWR in the Mig-29 video, there seems to be no indications from it that it is picking up any radar signals, which, to me, indicates that they're running in PB mode and launching from preflight determined areas. The tablet looks more like flight mission software used to get them to that area using GPS.

i've seen similar burials for recovered bodies from ww2, it's probably just that, but i'd be happy to be proven wrong.
To me it looks like a proper burial of WWII soldiers' remains found and ID'd after a successful search and recovery mission of war diggers. It was quite common in recent years in Russia as the demand for "patriotic and historical past" has been on the rise.
There are still hundreds of thousands of MIA among soviet soldiers, bringing them back, giving them back their name and proper orthodox burial is not a bad thing.
You can see the coffins do not look heavy, most likely there are just bones in it. This is the only sane reason for "Brothers' grave" in this situation.
Here's a good example of such war diggers, their channel has english subtitles and is probably known in /k/. idunno

I keep saying it, but we need to give them SLAM-ERs. They can have a target GPS programmed on the ground, then either do it fully autonomous or be controlled via data link remotely.
Smudge the glass. The original SLAM was literally a Harpoon with a Maverick Seeker for terminal guidance and Walleye data link. The ER was a ground up redesign to enhance its capabilities.
There's some cannon we haven't used since the early 90's hanging about somewhere. We could give them that?
I think it's called MARAUDER? idk it's something that's just sitting there mothballed
>a SU-27 of the fabled air force of the mythical nation of Ukraine that was destroyed in the first hours of the war >still flying >flying fricking SEAD missions at that >mfw
Nah, people started talking about the ghost of Kiev because everyone the Ukranian airforce was gone on the first day, but people were still seeing the occasional Mig flying missions against the russkies. At the time, people imagined it was a lone survivour desparatly holding out and playing ace combat IRL. Turns out, people still saw Ukie aircraft because their airforce was never wiped out to begin with.
>Russia cant SEAD with a large fairly modern airfoce >Ukraine flying SEAD sorties with "no airforce" every day with aircraft that were never intended to an AGM-88
Clown timeline, but I like this episode.
I warned people 6 months ago, the entire western MIC got one big boner over the amount of cash that just started flowing into their veins again.

Plus, there’s at least two Su-27’s in private hands, and I am willing to bet that the US military has some squirreled away at Groom Lake or somewhere
still doesn't make sense to me, it can't be sustainable financially for the US to work on jets that they don't and have never used, i have my doubts about them being able to afford this in the long run
It doesn’t HAVE to be financially sustainable. It’s the military.
Plus, it’s not like they’re being flown every day having tons of wear and tear put on them.
yeah but what im speaking is that the US military does not have infinite money, in order to stay matched with china they should not be playing around with jets they do not make

(You) insanely stupid vatBlack person. The West, and the U.S. in particular, has been training pilots on these platforms for nearly 40 years. We've made more than a few improvements & fixes. It's unlikely that Russian pilots could fly these planes anymore once they've been fully modded and upgraded. We use them in war games to simulate shooting vatBlack folk down, except that we use the upgraded versions to make it challenging.
Now, tell us all about the F-16 training that vatBlack person pilots recieve? Or, is that too expensive for Russia to afford? Surely, Russia has an entire fleet of F-16s they've disassembled and put back together again with improvements the West is incapable of developing. Right? Right ..........??

Correct, it has 720 billion dollars per year, of which it has spent 18 on this war in the last 6 months. If the Pentagon stopped giving a frick and went full WW3, they could go at it 18 times harder than they are right now.

>US military >has 720 billion dollars per year > of which it has spent 18 on this war in the last 6 months
That's not really very accurate at all.
First, The U.S. Congress made a budget for Ukraine, and the majority of that budget (if not very nearly all of it) is allocated funds apart from the military budget. There have been allocations to the U.S. military to replace equipment they are donating/loaning. There are also allocations to cover the human time & man hours being invested.
For the most part, the U.S. military (via executive action) has been "drawing down" huge stockpiles of equipment and other helpful resources that were already purchased years ago. Some of it decades ago.
In summary, only a fraction of the aid coming from the U.S. is coming out of the military budget. The military is being compensated for the resources it is donating, and for its activities in support of Ukraine, but the majority of the aid packages are money that Congress is allocating from the Federal government for Ukraine, and to help out other countries and organizations that are helping Ukraine. Currently, the U.S. is floating around $100 billion across about a dozen different aid packages, which will spend most of the money over the next three to five years or so. Probably less than $20 billion, if not under $15 billion, are coming out of military bank accounts. The U.S. military is not spending any money it's already received previous to this war, and what it is spending will be compensated out of the Federal Treasury as "Ukraine spending," not "military spending."
But, I also expect the next military budget to exceed $800 billion, using Ukraine as an excuse that the U.S. military isn't well-funded enough for what we ask it to do.

I'm convinced this is how it happened
>Be Raytheon employee >See updates from Russian invasion >Watch stock price crater as Russkies trip over their own dicks >Cry into pile of MIC money (which could have been bigger)
these things just home in on their own on radar right? so all you need to know is where the enemy AA system is generally via its radar signature, and then you launch the missile in the direction of the AA and it corrects its trajectory on its own by detecting and homing in on the radar signature, right?
so they don't need a ton of complex equipment to launch them, they just need to rig the aircraft to have the pilot release / activate the missile and let it do its thing right? It's not like something that's GPS guided where you would have to feed the GPS data into it as well as its current position so it knows where to go and calculate its trajectory.

Here's a good example of such war diggers, their channel has english subtitles and is probably known in /k/. idunno

I wouldn't be surprised if we'll end up seeing Mig-29s with the sniper pod dropping Paveways at some point, thus making these wartime upgraded migs better than anything that Russia has produced in the last 30 years to sell to pajeets, let alone to themselves
I keep saying it, but we need to give them SLAM-ERs. They can have a target GPS programmed on the ground, then either do it fully autonomous or be controlled via data link remotely.
Looks like a happy little fella.
>DO NOT TOUCH
>WINDOW
What happens if you touch the window?
>Group of pilots survive enemy attack though luck and courage
>"It's my turn to be Ghost of Kyiv."
>"You did that last mission!"
>What happens if you touch the window?
the missile tracks your cheeto finger prints rather than the target
Smudge the glass. The original SLAM was literally a Harpoon with a Maverick Seeker for terminal guidance and Walleye data link. The ER was a ground up redesign to enhance its capabilities.
>What happens if you touch the window?
it would be very painful
You're a big guy.
Thanks, that's what my girlfriend says.
It just works I guess.
What other jun- fine vintage weapons do we have left to give to ukraine for dispos- their defense.
There's some cannon we haven't used since the early 90's hanging about somewhere. We could give them that?
I think it's called MARAUDER? idk it's something that's just sitting there mothballed
>MARAUDER
I don't think America gonna hand over a prototype plasma cannon to Ukraine, unless...
>a SU-27 of the fabled air force of the mythical nation of Ukraine that was destroyed in the first hours of the war
>still flying
>flying fricking SEAD missions at that
>mfw
I have now come full circle and once again unironically believe in the Ghost of Kiev
In the end it was silly but kinda wholesome urban legend.
I hope that next Ace Combat game will have some reference to Ghost of Kyiv.
Ghost of SEAD
>Russia cant SEAD with a large fairly modern airfoce
>Ukraine flying SEAD sorties with "no airforce" every day with aircraft that were never intended to an AGM-88
Clown timeline, but I like this episode.
This is literally evidence of the timeline correcting itself.
Remember how Ukraine was given "spare plane parts"? aka entire disassembled NATO-integrated fighter jets.
S-300/400 GET FRICKED
I warned people 6 months ago, the entire western MIC got one big boner over the amount of cash that just started flowing into their veins again.
Now it wants to frick
>Ukrainians have HARMs
>Russians trained SEAD manoeuvres with 500kg unguided bombs.
The MIC is going to be hyping the chinese as frick to keep themselves in bussiness lol.
Turns out Russia as a near peer adversary for NATO is a total joke.
>This war will simultaneously tank Russian aircraft reputation (thanks to the VVS) and save it (thanks to the PSU)
What a fricking time to be alive.
the us has migs of their own.
no doubt they had this project shelved for later use
still fricking clever though.
>ukraine still has a functioning air force that seeks and destroys russian anti-air 200 days into the special military operation
this is some joke
Remember, Russia's GDP is lower than Mexico.
Where there's a need, a solution will be found. Remember that Iran flies F-4s and F-14s with Russian and Chinese weapons mounted.
east and west friendship
the good part of the east
>The frick do you explain this shit?
Mfw America probably already has access to all of the SU-27s computer's source code by now.
it's not all fixed function?
I've honestly no clue.
US has been working with Russian jets for years. They know them as well as they know their own fighter jets.
wtf? can the US military really afford to be fricking around with jets they don't even manufacture?
Yeah we have 21 American Mig-29s. God bless Moldovabros and the American MIC
Plus, there’s at least two Su-27’s in private hands, and I am willing to bet that the US military has some squirreled away at Groom Lake or somewhere
Wonder if modernized Flankers might find their way to the US MIC
No.
still doesn't make sense to me, it can't be sustainable financially for the US to work on jets that they don't and have never used, i have my doubts about them being able to afford this in the long run
It doesn’t HAVE to be financially sustainable. It’s the military.
Plus, it’s not like they’re being flown every day having tons of wear and tear put on them.
yeah but what im speaking is that the US military does not have infinite money, in order to stay matched with china they should not be playing around with jets they do not make
My dude, a couple dozen jets aren’t even a drop in the bucket. They’re closer to a molecule of water in the bucket
>the US military does not have infinite money,
>stay matched with china
you will see the wisdom in my words in the coming months
>gee, I sure wish the US bought a single extra F-35 for the same cost as operating an entire aggressor squadron of fulcrums
You have no wisdom.
>p-p-please stop analysing my fighter jets for all its secrets, y-y-you can't afford it
We do more than just their jets.
Krokodil has turned whatever passed for your brain into a drooling bucket pig slobber. I've rarely seen anyone post something this fricking moronic on /k/, and the competition has been hot & heavy for years.
>the US military does not have infinite money
Correct, it has 720 billion dollars per year, of which it has spent 18 on this war in the last 6 months. If the Pentagon stopped giving a frick and went full WW3, they could go at it 18 times harder than they are right now.
>US military
>has 720 billion dollars per year
> of which it has spent 18 on this war in the last 6 months
1. Reverse engineering actually makes you money and improves your technical expertise.
2. If it prevents the loss of a single US fighter, it probably paid off the R&D cost.
3. The US budget has way more money than you think.
4. Seriously, look up the budget. It’s mind boggling.
5. Lol, financially sustainable, this guy
6. lmao
Russia did not do this because they were not paranoid maniacs always preparing to start a war of aggression like NATO USA has been preparing
Sounds like a Russian problem, what are you going to do about it?
>W-we tot-TOTALLY have infinite monies!
>rossiya stronkest!
>W-w-e COULD have done it! We just didn't want to!
Cool story, bro.
Johnny Oblast from New York province here and many agreements per all of mine tax monies being stolen by Brandon is big unfair. America got broked by the democraps and we are not having time or monies to play with ancient Soviet planes. Vote for Trump in November and make all these things fixed immediately! I am so many mad!!!
They bought them from Moldova in the 90s
https://www.19fortyfive.com/2021/07/how-the-u-s-military-purchased-21-russian-mig-29-fighter-jets/
Damn. We owe Moldova. Maybe we can fix their Transnigeria problem, give them a shot at the EU, or at least reunification with Romania.
>be February 24th
>be systems engineer at Raytheon
>watching live updates of Russian invasion on the news
>boss walks in
>drops stack of binders dated from the 90s on the desk
>anon call over to this number at Lock art and this number at Northrup
>figure out how to fire HARMS from Migs and Sukois
>blood for the blood god
I'm convinced this is how it happened
>Be Raytheon employee
>See updates from Russian invasion
>Watch stock price crater as Russkies trip over their own dicks
>Cry into pile of MIC money (which could have been bigger)
>THEY CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS!!
Won't anybody STOP them??! SOMEbody DO something!!
these things just home in on their own on radar right? so all you need to know is where the enemy AA system is generally via its radar signature, and then you launch the missile in the direction of the AA and it corrects its trajectory on its own by detecting and homing in on the radar signature, right?
so they don't need a ton of complex equipment to launch them, they just need to rig the aircraft to have the pilot release / activate the missile and let it do its thing right? It's not like something that's GPS guided where you would have to feed the GPS data into it as well as its current position so it knows where to go and calculate its trajectory.
Turkish Aselsan outfitted Azerbaijani Su-25s with such avionics so it can use Turkish-made precision missiles and bombs. It was done like 10 years ago
An additional Aselsan multi-function display is visible in Su-25 wienerpit. It commands HGK series bombs and other things
>Black person-rigged HARMs using a fricking tablet as a firing interface being launched from slavshit that hasn't been updated since 1981 is all it takes to frick up Russian air defenses
there's no bottom, is there?
time to shoot down the moon
