Why does need Ukraine need all these tanks that they keep requesting from NATO when they can just make their own?
Pic related, T-84, a Ukrainian version of the T-80. If Ukraine has the capacity to build these in peace-time, surely when the entire country is mobilised to fight a war they should be able to pump these out in large enough numbers to not need deliveries from the west? All these tanks from the West also require a bunch of training for their crews since they don't know how to operate them, but domestic tanks wouldn't have that problem would they?
Just look here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_equipment_of_the_Armed_Forces_of_Ukraine#Fixed-wing_aircraft
Virtually everything the aremd forces use is produced locally, since they inherited a shitload of factores from the USSR after the fall of the Soviet Union. Surely it would make more sense to provide the Ukies with material so they can produce more of their own stuff rather than giving a bunch of things they don't know how to use?
I'm asking because I'm genuinely confused, any k/ommandos have any opinions about this?
Google what Ukraine's defence budget was prewar.
Then, google cost of one tank.
I won't
Ukraine does indeed have the capability to manufacture their own tanks, but the need for tanks from Nato comes from two main reasons - availability and quality. The conflict in Ukraine and the resulting realities have made it difficult to acquire the raw materials and components necessary to produce tanks in the quantity and quality needed to fight a war. Additionally, tanks produced by Nato include additional features and upgrades that Ukraine would not have been able to incorporate into their own tanks. This could give them an edge in combat effectiveness and survivability.
NATO wunderwaffes like tanks that don't have exploding death carousels, last gen night vision, awacs and sattelites, and pallets are more useful than putting too much of their limited domestic production into tanks
>that don't have exploding death carousels
Can be fixed.
they got bombed to shit and can't produce anything anymore

Because the factory that made them, Malyshev in Kharkiv, was occupied not too long?

Because defense procurement is a pretty sluggish process in which between ordering and delivery of the goods can very easily lay years, especially if the item is something more complex like a tank or an aircraft.
1. The tank plants in Kharkiv were responsible for most of Ukraine's tank production, and they were destroyed during the first weeks of the war.
2. Tanks be expensive, yo. Even in wartime people have to be paid and material has to be purchased. Even with the money they're getting from the west they would really struggle to get production rolling, especially in wartime conditions.
3. Any mass production would take time to get rolling. They could start building tanks a year from now at a low production rate or they could try and get some of the hundreds of western tanks that exist right now. Quicker to train than to build, quicker return on investment, and at much greater numbers.
I do really like the T-84 line though, I hope they get some place after the war. Majority of them built are actually in Thailand, Ukraine built 50 BM Oplot-Ts for them.
>Malyshev in Kharkiv
Malyshev was in Kharkiv city, no? That was never occupied. It was destroyed with long-range weapons afaik.
>I hope they get some place after the war
I hope they won't, because it's just upgraded version of T-80, while Malyshev factory has Nota/Molot(Object 477) tank designs which is much better.
>That ammo layout
Good god, it this tank, there would be NO room for mistake. If you get hit, You fly. Yatagan with some refinement on other side would be something similar to K2, which is good enough to stop whatever vtniks decide to produce in next 30 years
>Why does need Ukraine need all these tanks
Modern tanks are expensive and complicated
Even Russia, the biggest tank manufacturer on the planet cannnot produce more than a couple hundred per year. Most Soviet-era factories either swiched production, were downgraded to shut down all together. Even if NATO was to do exactly what you've suggested Ukraine would need years to get a huge production line secured and up and running, it's much easier to simply send stuff that's already made
Ukraine is best served by putting all domestic resources into long range missiles, since missiles onto Russia proper is the one red line NATO and Co. are unlikely to ever cross.
>Why does need Ukraine need all these tanks that they keep requesting from NATO when they can just make their own?
jokes on you, they have more tanks than all the NATO countries other than US and Turkey.
https://www.globalfirepower.com/armor-tanks-total.php
they just refuse to use them to retake their land, gotcha
Because their industry for making tanks already got destroyed. They either need to build a new factory or they need to rely on western support.
Why doae tank need why? Many ukrain but like lol frfr. Hohol mobil lmao dawg. Dis homie crumpin fucin danks rofl XD 4" 9mm.
Can't make 'em fast enough.
Before war, ukraine had no money. Now they have no factory.
>Why does need Ukraine need all these tanks that they keep requesting from NATO when they can just make their own?
First, price
Second, they don't have enough manpower: they're either fighting or running away.
Third, they don't have enough energy to build them (Russia keeps attacking their power grid)
Fourth, if they'd have several factories, by now they're already destroyed.
right now much of Ukraines domestic manufacturing sector is either in range of russian attacks or is behind enemy lines in territories that Russia took over in 2022. Ukraine had already been building up its local domestic arms industry before the new war but not to the scale that it can move towards total war footing.
