having a RPG wouldn't have help these guys in this situation, how would you get an accurate shot off before being shredded?

This. Those guys would have been like Christmas lights on thermals since they werent in the woodline.

I use Handbrake; in the "Video" tab, I select the avg bitrate (kbps) at 512 for shorter/less bitrate heavy videos, 256 for long ones (such as OP's catbox mp4, which was almost 30mb in size).

They have crews. It's that they are poorly equipped. I mean, shit, how many brigades do they have running around in MT-LBs, armored cars/humvees, and pickup trucks? Twenty? Thirty? The TDF alone is a couple hundred thousand strong light infantry force that can be converted into mechanized if they had the equipment for it.

you know, the weird thing is
this is the first time I've seen a BTR rather than a BMP or MT-LB in a while
      wonder why

BTR's are fairly good in the sense they're pretty quick on roads and tough, simple enough to keep running while frick-finger 'mechanics' will probably have ignored maintenance for about the last 10 year. Anything with tracks takes a fair few man hours of work that could be better spent jerking gherkins, drinking or fricking around gambling.

        Anonymous

I'd wager, but I genuinely have not seen a single BTR in any of these types of videos in ages
do the russoids not have enough or are they reserving them for some sort of scenario?
emergency scenario? blyatzkrieg? or are the roads drying up so they can finally use BTRs again?

          Anonymous

Russia will still have BTR's, just that in some areas they've been completely wiped out either by enemy fire or lack of any kind of logistics to keep them in fuel and repairs. Plus their command might have prioritised them into somewhere that needs vehicles with better off road capabilities.
That's pretty speculative though on the latter!
From what we've seen of Russian planning its just one big fricking meat grinder

The Russian soldier is one of the bravest men in Europe. His tenacity almost equals that of the English and of certain Austrian battalions. As John Bull boasts of himself, he does not know when he is beaten. Russian squares of infantry have resisted, and fought hand to hand, a long while after the cavalry had ‘ broken them; and it has always been found easier to shoot them down than to drive them back. Sir George Cathcart, who saw them in 1813 and ‘14, as allies, and in 1854 in the Crimea, as enemies, gives them the honorable testimonial that they are “incapable of panic.” Beside this, the Russian soldier is well made, healthy, a good marcher, a man of few wants, who can eat and drink almost anything, and more obedient to his officers than any other soldier in the world. And yet the Russian army is not much to boast of. Never, since Russia was Russia, have the Russians won a single battle against either Germans, French, Poles, or English, without being vastly superior in numbers. At even odds, they have always been beaten by any army, except Turks or Prussians; and at Citate and Silistria, the Turks, though inferior in numbers, defeated them ... The Russian, imitator as he is in everything, will do anything if ordered or compelled, but will do nothing if he has to act upon his own responsibility; in fact, this term can hardly be applied to a being who never knew what responsibility was, and who will go to be shot at with the same passive obedience as if he were ordered to pump water, or to whip a comrade. To expect from the Russian soldier, when acting on out-post duty or in skirmishing order, the rapid glance of the Frenchman, or the plain common sense of the German, would be an insult to him. What he requires is command-clear, distinct command — and if he does not get it, he will perhaps not go backwards, but he will certainly not go forwards, nor use his own senses.
      -- Friedrich Engels, 1855

      Dropping this truth nuke

The whole essay is good reading, also talks about their bad kit and other things.

        >Finally, the Russian army still bears the stamp of an institution in advance of the general state of civilization of the country, and has all the disadvantages and drawbacks of such hot-house creations. In petty warfare, the Cossacks are the only troops to be feared, from their activity and indefatigability; but their love of drink and plunder makes them very unreliable for their commander. In grand war, the slowness with which the Russians move will make their strategic maneuvers little to be feared, unless they have to deal with such negligent opponents as the English were last autumn. In a pitched battle, they will be obstinate opponents to the soldiers, but not very troublesome to the generals who attack them. Their dispositions are generally very simple, founded upon their prescribed normal rules, and easy to be guessed at; while the want of intelligence in both general and field officers, and the clumsiness of the troops, make it a matter of great risk for them to undertake important maneuvers on a battle field.

I saw a vid taken from a drone which was slowly crisscrossing the city. Taken a day or two after it was reported that a russian sniper killed the last living civilian in the town. Occasionally the drone peeked into buildings. Absolute devastation. Nothing alive or moving. Not even smoke. I wished I could find video again.

frick me i thought it was way further to the west
its only 20 km from donetsk center.
also eerie looking at maps because none of them that i have seen are updated since the start of the war so all these destroyed towns are still alive on google, still green.

this one is weird because you can see tags on the windows and everything is new so it's obviously a new construction but why wasn't it wrapped yet? That should have been done before the window install, so I really think it's intended to stay like this. Sure they can put siding over it but good luck with unwrapped osb, siding or not.

Ukraine has an extremely limited number of helicopters with poor attack capabilities. Mines, FPV drones, ATGMs are a huge problem for IFVs. This shit isn't your RTS video game. Smoke artillery isn't nearly as effective as you'd like to believe. Ukraine tried NATO strategy during their counter offensive and it was unsuccessful. The Ukranian MOD stated it was ineffective and they had to change tactics. Fighter from the international legion has stated several times that NATO tactics do not work on this battlefield.

"Muh combined arms" is a westard name for meat wave assaults. Russia has been doing plenty of that, Ukraine did it too during the early stages of the summer counteroffensive. Doesn't work against artillery and minefields. Any large-scale concentration of troops gets shredded by artillery strikes during the staging phase. Concealment is a thing of the ancient past. Dispersion is the only way to be alive, small squads work because they're dispersed enough not to be an economically viable target for an artillery strike. RUSI wrote an entire paper on that.

The major improvements included an eye-safe laser rangefinder (ELRF), a tactical navigation system (TACNAV) incorporating the Precision Lightweight GPS Receiver (PLGR) and the Digital Compass Systems (DCS), a missile countermeasure device designed to defeat first-generation wire-guided missiles, and the Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below (FBCB2) Battlefield Command Information System.

The internal stowage was further improved and a thermal imaging system was added for the driver. The infantry squad was again increased to seven men, six of whom sat facing each other on two 3-man benches in the passenger compartment, with the seventh back in the position behind the turret. An MRE ('Meal, Ready-to-Eat') heater was added to the vehicle to assist in the preparation of food.

honestly in this case run away or use squad level anti tank against it, but considering the russians have apparently decided not to equip their squads with rpgs the first is probably your only option

It's hard to tell for sure because russians lie about everything, but I think even russian top military brass believes some of their decoy kills were real kills.

Stuff like claiming they have killed all of ukie himars multiple times over? It's a mix of moronic propaganda and moronic belief that they have actually killed them.

Unironically the iraq war killed patriotism because the Bush admin used MUH 9/11 MUH TROOPS to convince the populace to do something which killed a ton of people for no reason. Even the dumbest flag-wavers absorbed some of that negative feeling even if they couldn’t articulate why. Also the US never dealt with a lot of skeletons in the closet after the Civil Rights Movement, which left a lot of people feeling like nothing could ever change (seeing Rodney King in the 90s up to the present day BLM movement and such)

Gun laws that sure chould use some improvement if you have proper data what to fix (thank NRA for practily blocking data collection for every troony and mental nut job mass shooter on how they get their guns) but still best gun laws and probably biggest quality stuff producer in the world

Many of them don’t know anything else, how bad it could really get. They see serious issues and just doom about it instead of going to a town council meeting and trying to build consensus or whatever.

I remember watching Obama give a speech in like 2014-15 telling people they couldn’t just protest about black lives matter, they had to actually go talk to mayors and city councilors and police chiefs and work on a solution. People booed him lmao. That’s why I think people are drawn to Trump, they really want a king who will fix their problems without them having to do any work.
