Because CVR(T) is a fantastic platform. It's fast, just werks and has extremely low ground pressure so it can operate off road in the raspubreastsa.
As far as I'm aware they bought the ambulance variant which is great for speedy CASEVACs

The downside of this is that they will be turned to flaming wrecks by just about anything heavier than a PKM. On Russian forums they are lamenting the poor armor of their BMPs and praise German IFVs or tank conversions as the shit we should have.

As mentioned their extremely light weight means they're less prone to being bogged down, extremely fast too for a tracked APC. Perfect for carting around Stugna teams in the middle of winter.

I doubt they'll be used to support regular infantry units though. If they do they're stupid as per

Fair point on the Armour, its rated for 14.5mm to the front and everything above a PKM firing AP will pen the sides.
Their has been two instances where a Scimitar was hit by a sabot from a tank (M1A1 and a T62) and the round just went straight through miraculously not killing anyone.

        >There were a batch of 50 milsurp in private hands already I think and they got sold off to Ukraine instead of whatever was going to be done with them. Total price $5.5m.
That is pretty much scrap metal value. Metal recycling companies are pretty much only ones buying military equipment in bulk unless we are talking about forklifts or other similar civilian machinery that is painted green and can be easily repurposed to civilian uses.

You can buy them here for £50kish. Used to be alot cheaper before the war though like £25k.

This is exactly how we use them (Latvia too) specifically for carrying round AT teams or any specialist team really. I'm pretty sure we got rid of the Stormer cvrt in favour of the FV103 + Javelin team.

Would be nice to send them some Striker and Sheilder cvrt if we still have them.

I'm sorry I actually lied there, it wasn't a Scimitar it was a Scorpion so came thing but different. Here it's the one hit by the M1A1 see picrel.
            >They had stopped to take the surrender of Iraqi troops, when one Scorpion was hit in the front by a round from a US M1 tank, firing from about 1500 m to the north. The driver escaped without injury, but a soldier walking alongside received shrapnel wounds.

It was a Scimitar that was hit by a T55 though

good value for money I guess
where are they getting them from?

CVR(T)s are actually a perfect choice, with all the mud they’ll have to deal with. Those things did great in the Falklands. Although their armor isn’t great, they give good off road capabilities that things like civilian cars and bmps would get stuck doing.

The danger is drop-in replacements for large assemblies. So, replacing final drives, engines, suspension units, hydraulics maybe optics and gun depending on how far those go it is just not economic to be re-engineering for one of these things. When they die there will be a cannibal pile to pick from and if not there its over for that vehicle. No one is back engineering stuff last produced in Leyland Motors in the 1970s.

You are now aware BAE still makes parts and modernises cvrt vehicles. The newest Scimitar (mk2 upgraded armour, optics etc) in the UKs inventory is from 2014 and the Latvian cvrts are made with new hulls.

The UK has literally thousands of cvrts that will be out of service soon, they have tons and tons of spares for this particular vehicle that I'm sure they will hand over. They have already given them 120 cvrt including spares and recovery vehicles so the extra 50 will just compliment that.
I'm not the guy in your green text either, I was just telling you that BAE still make and supply parts to cvrt users.

This particular BAE capability isn't exactly a good thing. Sum result of the Warrior frickup plus recent backlash against light and wheeled AFVs, not wrong but whatever. They're also ideal for the hit-and-run specialist warfare the Ukrainians favor. Spartan or Sultan is the perfect size to deliver a MANPADS or ATGM team into an unexpected position, then quickly relocate them after a successful ambush and before the inevitable artillery response. Shockingly fast too, M18 Hellcat-tier off-road mobility.

      >At other times, the campaigns simply react to events by channelling a sudden surge of anger or frustration. When Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, tweeted his ideas about how to end the war in Ukraine, there was widespread outrage at the suggestion that the country’s territory should be bartered away.
      >“We decided, OK, people are so angry and we can convert this anger into something helpful,” said Pysarenko. “And we announced a fundraiser to buy a history textbook for Musk on Twitter. And you know, in an hour, we had 1m Ukrainian hryvnia (£24,000) donated to our accounts, and we’re like, OK, so we have enough money, literally to buy textbooks but also to buy a supply of radio stations for one unit.”

They are similarly vulnerable, but they are smaller and nimbler than the Gavin, so better suited for shoot and scoot/ambush operations. They won't get too many Scimitars as they're not particularly good.

Don’t they have a 30mm cannon? Even if it’s the same non stabilized gun as the warrior that’s still a good gun/round.

Is there a case of that happening? How did they do it? 30mm to the side armor?

              >In Iraq 1991 a troop of Scimitars from 16th/5th The Queen’s Royal Lancers engaged and knocked out Iraqi T-62(s), penetrating their frontal armour with sabot rounds
              Did you look?

Yeh side armour mostly but there are reports of it frontally penning a T62s or 55s in the Gulf war I'll find the links and post them. Picrel is from Iraq 2003 I think 5 Iraqi tanks were taken out in total by the 30mm.

Here's another I have more but I'm phone posting so trying to find them is a pain. A Striker if you didn't know is a cvrt just with atgms.

Somewhere out there is an anon with vast knowledge on the cvrt I'm hoping he shows up he knew the new Thermals in the Scimi mk2 were better than the Challenger 2s

They use an aluminium-zinc alloy that is a bit tougher than the M113's armour. You still wouldn't want to be caught in one but at the end of the day it is a recce vehicle

Front armor is resistant to 14.5mm from 200m and side armor 7.62mm AP from 200m as well

Love these little buggers like you wouldn't believe, hopefully we'll get some Stormers as well after they've shown their worth in Ukraine

Thanks for making the cool video

Picrel will be it's intended use I guess, especially with all this shitty weather due.
Here is a video of the Latvians using there's.

And here's one doing some PR work

they were a pretty hard sell to the public at first (mostly because of age, but there were some smartasses that were asking why we didn't bother with actual tanks instead of the scimitars), but with time it seems the same general public has warmed up to them since they just work in our terrain
