UA 571-C Automated Sentry Gun (the gun turret from Aliens)
Shoots 10×28mm Caseless ammo (the same as the smart gun) at the speed of 1,100 rounds/min. It has a 500-round drum magazine (on full auto lasts 27 seconds). Weights 19.6 kg and can be assembled in under 150 seconds.
Can be set to sweep 360 degree area, although the sensor covers only 60 degree area in front of the barrel. The Sensor suite consists of a cooled infrared detector in the 3-5 µm and 8-13 µm band, ambient light optics, an ultrasonic motion tracker and a lidar. Meaning that it CAN detect even a Yauja (predator) which is using active stealth camoflage. The information collected by the UA 571-C's sensor is automatically relayed to the visual support systems of nearby soldiers, enabling them to see cloaked Yautja as if they were uncloaked.
If a target's visual or thermal profile is known, the system may be pre-set to scan for only these specific targets using infrared or optical.
Wireless connection for remote controlling.
Not gonna lie, these things start to sound pretty neat. Sure, it's just an automated turret, and the magazine is pretty small, but that sensor suite makes up a lot. Humans in Aliens universe are not that much of a pushover as you would think. A couple of these in cross-firing positions would be pretty nasty thing to try to go through. I met some bozos in the military that could NOT be trusted to stay alert in night watch. I'd take these turrets over those idiots any day.
They were really easy to take out in AvP2.
The problem is that they are so high profile and loud they need to be in a constrained, interior location to work and those would be better served by mines. Its 80s as frick that they need to swivel side to side to scan. Also 500 rounds is frickall for what they could really back for that much bulk, they could at least have 2k on tap on a belt.
Claymores could damage the building and you can only place so many in a corridor, if you expect multiple threats this one would be better
>Claymores could damage the building
claymores are frag mines.
2k rounds is ridiculous. Just use multiple turrets for all that ammo.
>2k rounds is ridiculous
No it isn't. 500 is small for the purpose given the enemies it will be facing.
The 60 degree effective arc is ridiculous, though. 100 degrees horizontal and +/- 50 degrees vertical should be the minimum starting design point. The stretch goals for the design should be 360 degree horizontal coverage and +95/-80 degrees vertical coverage with field adjustments for deadzones to permit perimeter defense.
>500 is small for the purpose given the enemies it will be facing.
How many bullets does it take to kill a man, assuming you have 99% accuracy like a smartgun would? How many men do you actually think will be attacking a position?
500 rounds is more than enough.
You think you are logic but only half logic at best
why this?
because why in the frick would a sentry gun engineered to shoot at humans have a full fricking auto mode
Maximising rounds on target for ensured kills, obviously. You type like a depressed moron, by the way.
Because nothing makes uppity colonial terrorists shit the bed in terror like full auto accurate as frick fire if on foot and if they have a technical or other improvised armored vehicle the turret may be able to chew through whatever improvised armor it has instead of just shooting it once and sitting there like a lump. And while they aren't in the movies there's no reason to assume drones wouldn't be a thing in the Aliens world too, needing to shoot down a swarm of flying grenades comes to mind.
Also, if you have a sentry system why WOULDN'T you give it a full auto setting? It's not like it's gonna be affected by recoil.
>99% accuracy
Robots shake all over the place and when you give them guns they end up shooting at trees and shadows half the time.
500 rounds for something you take to the field maybe for a temp OP or bivouac. Obviously if you're in a more permanent base or more permanent COP that you're defending against constant assaults you'd want something with longer range with more ammo. Remember that all these weapons were not made to fight Yauja or xenomorphs they were made to fight other humans, particularly insurgents. For their intended purpose most of the weapons are overkill.
>Yauja
Everyone who calls predators this is a massive homosexual.
The fact that sentry guns aren't yet a thing in all modern armies is a big L for humanity.
South Korea uses sentry guns.
They are physically possible
It's just they're all at the level of "if you don't wear this special patch at all times it will shoot at you" so only places nobody is meant to be like the Korean DMZ and Ukranian minefields have them

Turns out there are a lot of people online that have made their own and you can too if you can buy a Raspberry Pi and the associated hardware and motors.
This was the first one i've ever seen when it came out in 2008. I love the distraction attempt results.
