Tunnel Warfare

Hamas allegedly has 500km of tunnels underneath Gaza. Most is probably interconnected.

Why not pump water from the Mediterranean into the tunnels?

10 strong water pumps working full time, you can fill 500km of tunnels full of water in under a week, easily.

Find an opening, start pumping water until it overflows, seal with concrete, repeat.

What am I missing?

We tried pumping tunnels full of water in Vietnam. It didn’t work because the tunnels had multiple ways to seal off.

Tried that Vietnam too. Didn’t work. >hamas initial attack fails to actually accomplish any strategic goals
Their goal was to stop dealings between Saudi Arabia and Israel. They succeeded since the israelites couldn’t hold their chill for a moment and went hog wild with bombing Gaza, now Saudi Arabia doesn’t want anything to do with them.

Well, yeah. I feel sorry for some of them who are being interrogated by the Israelis. They're mostly just young guys who were treated as disposable tools, and some of them were saying that: they tricked us, left us out there, and naming the leaders who are living in Turkey and Qatar. It's interrogation stuff so it's not the most reliable information but it seems true enough to me.

You are completely delusional if you think Saudis don’t secretly want to exterminate the israelites occupying their Prophet’s conquered holy land.
Their populace is responsible for 9/11 and Wahhabism, they have reestablished relations with Iran and work in concert with Russia to affect Oil prices. The Saudis are the true israelites of the Middle East, they only want an Israel deal so they can get Western Nuclear Reactors for “Peace and Research”.

        serious question.
If a nation has universal conscription, and an enemy army kills a bunch of conscripts how is that a naughty thing? i saw a bunch of videos of women taken prisoner. but they are all in their early 20s? so they are all soldiers or reservists. how is killing cap soliders even bad?

        >They succeeded since the israelites couldn’t hold their chill for a moment and went hog wild
They suffered a massive PR loss too. A ton of people i listen to were revealed as massive pro censorship shills. Especially ones that have been agitating against cancel culture for years. I dont listen to them anymore. My position on the whole conflict has done a 180. Watching people get fired because they say people trapped in a prison and getting JDAMed is bad was actually disgusting.

We will see about that, even in major western cities people are rallying for Palestine even with the videos of Hamas which are supposed to make them pro Israel it didn't even work. I don't know, I see that as a winning war. Even before this conflict, everyday was hell for Israelis they could randomly be hit by missiles just for living there, and when Hamas attacked they kicked ass on the ground, and now even in the social media and news the narrative is pro Palestine. It's so over for zionists.

        yep

I became very cynical of the power of social media to win things after the Hong Kong protests. I should've been skeptical of it sooner, but if you thought likes and retweets are like bullets that will win your war, then the PRC shouldn't have won, but it did. Decisively. Mao said something once about where political power comes from, and it was nothing to do with fame or media exposure. People have a habit of losing themselves in the madness of the rapture of the social media moment, like a guy narcissistically looking at his own feed and going "damn I have a lot of followers." I'm betting on technologies like this to win out:

The difference is that china has enough power to act despite popular opinion. israel is almost totally dependent on foreign aid for their power.

          >israel is almost totally dependent on foreign aid for their power.
The aid from the U.S. helps for sure but Israel is a rich, technologically advanced country, and it's not like Israel is the only country in the Middle East that gets U.S. aid and assistance. There's a push from the BDS movement to isolate Israel from the West, but they get their oil from Azerbaijan and the Azeris get these nasty killer drones in exchange. Israel is kind of scary in that sense because their asset is Murder Inc. stuff you just saw and there are plenty of regimes in the world willing to put aside humanitarian concerns, and it's not like the Russian arms industry is doing well right now, and Israel is slotting in there as an alternative.

Your/that argument is based on the assumption "once a soldier, always a soldier" which is not how the parts of the world that laid down the rules of war perceived or defined them. You are a soldier while you are enlisted and wearing the uniform - so even in times of war an active member of a countries armed forces can be killed as a civilian if he is off duty and not wearing a uniform.

This definition was meant to protect civilians - everybody not wearing a uniform/insignia and not openly carrying weapons (Geneva conventions added that iirc) is considered a civilian that gets special protections that differ from those that POW have. And if you abuse this, trying to use civilians as protection while carrying out attacks, you get none of the protections and can be shot on the spot.

Hamas and their shills pushing the narrative that "because of mandatory service every Israeli is a soldier, regardless of age, gender and occupation" is the attempt at presenting the killing of 1100 civilians in a barbaric act of terror as a heroic act of war that killed 1400 soldiers on active duty.
But here's the thing: You can't cry about your enemy conducting war crimes for years (even decades), then commit your own war crimes and when the finding out happens insist on fair play. The rules of war (like the Geneva Conventions) are for those that adhere to them. Hamas breaks these rules by using human shields and tactics like shooting at the enemy from civilian infrastructure.

And shit like "they can only be considered as Hamas fighters while they wear their naruto headbands" doesn't work anymore when you try to argue that a conscript will never be a citizen again.

500KM of tunnels. Say they are 1.5M X 2.5M on average. 1.875M cubic meters or, 1.875B liters of water. A big 150HP pump can do something like 5.5K liters per minute. Get 10 of them going and it would only take about 3 weeks to fill them to the brim. Use sea water. Undermine the whole geography and the ground supporting the tunnels. Destroy their water supply as well. Salt water would seep into the underground water.

Egypt has been destroying Hamas smuggling tunnels for a long time so Hamas probably knows about defensive measures.
They could have watertight doors in places and have no shortage of time to collapse connections to prevent flooding.
Ultimately if you end up having to go basement to basement to secure every tunnel entrance and stick a hose in it for an anti-tunnel plan to work, then you effectively had to deal with the worst the tunnels can offer anyway. The rest is just cleanup.

It's also a civil engineering question how much the water you use to flood will just seep into the desert soil. You might end up having to pump water for months while watching every shoddily constructed building in Gaza tilt over and collapse into a sinkhole.

The Geneva convention has a stick up its ass about asphyxiating with gas but not drowning with water.

2nd it is a warcrime to use chemical weapon, and one that would cause too much international backlash for isreal to afford.

There's a reason the west wanted to import them, and it was to learn to infect them with western ideals through those they assimilate.
Even so it should be fine, like what exactly is Islam doing for the middle east for the last 150years really.

The only thing Islam has been doing is no longer dying to child disease, something precarious given well known arab corruption and periodic book burning, even if you keep or accelerate your current grow rate for the next century you will still be a minority. So all these talks about taking over the western Europe through demographic explosion and uprisings Hamas style is going to be worth nothing.

Besides, you seem to forget on the other side of the ocean US and India will keep growing too and still be predominantly non-muslim.

Shall I remind you haven't been capable to win a real war against an actual motivated enemy? What can you brag about? US leaving Afghanistan after killing all the talibans who still wanted to try some global jihad? The fact no matter you getting funded by US, Russia or your fellow petrostates you are still trash at making an actual functional economy, let alone an army should give you a hint your demographics aren't going to help you, even less as automation keeps advancing worldwide.

The role of Islam in the Arab/Persian world is a cycle where corrupt leaders use Islam with the help of of the imams to buy the loyalty of the citizens (and also exploit foreign workers) in what is still a fairly feudal/tribal society. Then eventually they get so corrupt and ineffective at dealing with disasters / keeping out invasions by foreigners / invasions by other Muslims etc. that the imams break with the rulers and stir up the populace to overthrow them while blaming the problems on the rulers not being pious enough. Then the cycle repeats itself. But it doesn't fundamentally promote the change in the means of production.

And many of those Muslims who migrated to the West failed to assimilate to the modernization so they still preserve the old social structure, but after several generations many change because they're growing up embedded in Western society from birth.

Once people figure out conservatism is the real enemy. you'll see things start changing for the better. The problem is conservatives are going to try to burn down the world before giving up their power, it's why you're seeing a hard backslide into authoritarianism and theocracy.

People have a habit of losing themselves in the madness of the rapture of the social media moment, like a guy narcissistically looking at his own feed and going "damn I have a lot of followers." I'm betting on technologies like this to win out:

the thing is, it isnt terrorism if the israelis have had them under blockade for 14 years. a blockade is an act of war. israel has been waging war on gaza for 14 years. It is not "terrorism" to attack someone that is waging war against you.

Water pumping would be a valid strategy, although it will take time and require a lot of logistics. Isolation and blockade is ideal, but requires knowledge of the exact layout of the tunnels. Collapse sections, use heavy machinery to excavate other parts, and block up entrances with dirt. Break it into sub sections and just wait them out. Tunnels are a defensive tool that allows for safer storage of people and material within YOUR OWN lines. It facilitates defense. But if Isrealis capture the area above a section of tunnel and isolate it it stops being a defensive tool and becomes a tomb. Overwhelming Isreali fires, infantry, a armor all but ensure their success if they choose to simply demolish Gaza block-by-block. Which they will do. And all the brown people and lefty whining won't stop it--not for weeks or months. Other strategies include judicious use of CS gas, lighting fires, blasting tunnels and sections of tunnel, and literally just posting people up on entrances and shooting Hamas when they come out.

Even Einsatzgruppen frequently broke down and balled their eyes out, turned to alcohol and drugs, or killed themselves. Turns out most people, normal people brought up in healthy environments, are pretty adverse to killing innocent people no matter how many times you try and tell them the person in question is a rat or a dog. Even Eichmann standing in front of the israelite pits had to pause and steady himself. The eyes can rarely lie, nor does the soul usually let a lie slip by. You don't sound tough or cool when all you are right now are edgy words on a screen.

You didn't answer the question. It's a serious question. Do you think there is no such thing as a just war or necessary self defense? Should the Brits have surrendered in 1941 to avoid killing civilians?

This is the question you seriously want answered? No, we shouldn't have refrained from attacking Germany or Japan but at the same time there's no reason to delude yourself into thinking the Japanese were fleas or monkeys. You referred to human beings as non-human.

                >don't give a shit about Israeli civilians

There are antisemitic nutcases but most people just see the conflict with any context, and realize there is literally never going to be an end to the conflict, if both sides just keep pushing their advantage until they eventually don't have it anymore.

Eventually, one side that has the upper hand needs to be the bigger man, accpet the losses, and make peace anyway, and build functional relationships with all its neighbors in the region. Right now, that side is Israel.

When we in the US bomb other countries, we get to fly back home, half a world away. You have to live next to each other, now and forever; unless you believe Israel can last long enough in the status quo to kill every arab. And I wouldn't assume enlternal support of the west either. The US sacrifices a lot for its support of Israel. I'm not talking about aid money; that's a drop in the bucket of our national budget. But we sacrifice relations with powerful, resource rich countries in the region; on the tenuous grounds that we're more akin with Israel ideologically and culturally. And because we happen to have some people in high places with an affinity for Israel.

                Anonymous

Israel is not obligated to make peace with a government whose stated political goals are incompatible with its existence as a nation and as a culture. The USA actually has fairly decent relations with a lot of Middle Eastern nations, whose stance on Israel and Palestinians is based entirely on considerations for their own political and economic needs at the moment and in regards to the future. The nations that have troubled relations with the USA do so because of their own histories and political realities, not because the USA supports Israel.

But you know what, I will. And since Hamas and other Islamists use teenage soldiers, then every Palestinian male over 14 must be considered a combatant. And since Islamists love using child soldiers and child suicide bombers, I think it’s fair to label any Palestinian child over 6 as a combatant too. And since they often dress men as women to engage in suicide bombing or knifing, well, every Palestinian woman is a combatant too. And since they love conducting terror attacks abroad, every Palestinian across the world in all countries should be considered combatants. But, well, all Arabs and sandmonkeys look the same, so they are all combatants too. Guess we will have to kill every mudslime and Arab on the planet! It’s only fair

      NTA but here you go:
Buy the biggest pump made from the finest chinesium here: https://www.tobeepump.com/sea-water-pumps/tsh-large-seawater-pump.html

Assume the tunnels are, on average, 1m wide and 2m tall. Network is 500km or 500000m long. Width and height are potentially much smaller, so we are taking these numbers as an upper limit and ignore things like large underground rooms.

      1m * 2m * 500000m = 1 million cubic meters

Divide by 12960 qm/h, get a little bit more than 77 hours as a result.

Assuming that no water is lost to the ground we are looking at a little more than three days until the problem is solved.
Use 10 pumps and the shit is done in less than a days work.

And if we ask the Netherlands if we can borrow their Pentair Fairbanks Nijhuis HP1-4000.340 (60qm/s) we would be done in four hours and 37 minutes and 46.67 seconds.

you really just need to make the collective network of tunnels unviable, you do not need to destroy every foot of the tunnel network. Simply destroying part of it will make the rest easier to locate even if its just from Hamas being forced to overuse what it has left. Hamas will use a tunnel exit for an attack, it gets locked down and obliterated, rinse and repeat. Hamas will be forced more and more to fight from houses and other buildings, and the IDF will simply fix them in place and bomb/ID them to rubble.

    >retards arguing over muh war powers
none of this matters. this entire fight, on the muslim side, is a pretext for moving away from the petrodollar system. on the israeli side, it's about enforcing the cultural conviction of zionism, the central pillar of which is the idea that Israel, the home of the israeli people, is a nation of clay situated temporally as opposed to a spiritual nation of people who share a common culture and belief, a nation which exists beyond time and space

it works a little something like this
    >arabs fund Hamas because they know it's a thorn in the side of israelis
    >short-sighted israeli politicos fund Hamas because they see it as a way of galvanizing support to have a bloodthirsty enemy on your doorstep
    >tensions boil over
    >the world begins taking sides
    >muslims 'support' palestinians, but refuse to give them safe passage or refugee status
    ^ we are here
    >israelis continue bombing civilians because their forces aren't willing to take the losses that a ground assault against an entrenched enemy will incur

    >west refuses because israeli lobbying has already captured the levers of power in most western governments

the only question is what the currency of choice will be. i suspect BRICS will announce some manner of gold-backed CBDC with convertibility at levels only feasibly obtainable by huge corporations and nation-states, kind of a blend of Tether and the US dollar after the collapse of the Breton Woods agreement but before nixon closed the gold window

generally underground tunnels and caves flood because they are below the natural water table and there is a failure and nature takes it course. When you are above the water table the water is simply going to sink into the ground. It would work for a small tunnel where you could pump water in faster than it can dissipate, not a large tunnel system.
