This is so pathetic. This gun safety shit is an exclusively female thing.

    >oh, he didn’t check his gun on the YouTube
    >oh, he pointed a gun at the camera
    >oh, he was handed a gun in a court room and despite being able to see the chambers of the revolver and so called experts handed it to them he didn’t perform the ritual to make us feel safe
    >oh, he held the empty gun improperly and it pointed in the general direction of the judge with the no no end, let me make a scene out of that

Fricking ridiculous. The entire shitshow just exists because they don’t want to send Baldwin to prison. Also having female armorers and cameramen, attorneys and judges should be a punishable offense.

I understand you’re probably of low intelligence and underage but let me explain this moronic level of safety to you.
People do die at shooting ranges due to freak accidents and such.
A sear can break, a firing pin can get stuck in the forward position e.t.c. but when someone does get shot it’s often not due to some crazy bad luck but rather a simple “I forgot there was one in the chamber!” or someone taking a failure to fire as the weapon being out of ammunition (one of the most dangerous common malfunctions).
If the rule is that you’re allowed to point a gun at someone if you’ve cleared it then you’re vastly increasing the risk of someone pointing a gun at someone without clearing it which in turn increases the risk of someone getting shot. So it’s simpler to break that chain of bad choices early on principle than go into the nitty gritty details of “you can point a gun at someone if ____”.
And sure, if you’re always careful about a firearm being loaded or not then it doesn’t actually increase safety but it’s one of those things where if everyone just agrees to do it then everyone becomes safer.
I understand being contrarian and wanting to argue against the norm going “but people point guns at each other on military exercises!” or “the ones on the wall at the gun store don’t have a proper backstop!” but it’s something you’ll just grow out of.
It’s like driving drunk, just don’t do it on principle. Sure, a 5 minute drive on a road no one ever even drives on won’t actually be dangerous but it’s still best not to

I'm all about gun safety but a lot of people turn into homosexuals when it comes to safety. You'll see it with OIS or combat footage where people are moving in a chaotic situation and everyone goes crazy when someone's calf gets flagged for a split second. At my job we have chamber flags on our rifles and while I don't sweep people I legitimately don't care if someone does it to me.

For a lot of people gun safety which is like tying your shoes is the only point of 'expertise' they have so they'll spout it off at any given moment to look smart

drunk driving analogy is moronic and you shouldn't be able to drive anymore let alone shoot if you think anyone who is /drunk/ should get behind the wheel. However, that clearly isn't the same as firearms.

            >have your finger up and away from the trigger until you are ready to fire
            >know the status and condition of your weapon at all times
            >always have the gun pointed at the safest direction possible at all times

I know of exactly two people who are just like you. One shot out his friends window and another took a trip to the ER for blowing his left hand out. They both had Glocks they were trying to take apart and they both were 'positive' that the guns were clear.
              >"I totally checked it bro!"
rule number 1 is "Treat every firearm as if it was loaded". Even if you 'visually cleared' the gun, you still maintain proper muzzle control before, in the case of a Glock, pulling the trigger to disassemble it. You have to be purposely autistic about this stuff because if you aren't, one day you might blow a hole in your ceiling or yourself.

Gun accidents don't happen on purpose, you fricking idiot. The rule is "Respect every firearm as if it is loaded until proven otherwise", if your gun is physically unable to fire then it is as dangerous as a brick. If you point it at someone (intentional or not) you are not breaking a safety rule but you are definitely not following proper firearm etiquette, which is also bad. Basically, stop being a safety b***h and use common sense when handling firearms. There's a certain point where you are taking "safety" so seriously that it's ridiculous. Do you walk into a gun store and point out every gun that's could possibly be aimed at someone? You ever see pic related and go autistically screeching that an unloaded and cleared gun is pointed at you? Or do you think just because it enters someone's hand it's all of a sudden dangerous?

There is no land ownership in US only land renting from the state and its fully controlled by state. State can deprive anyone from his land by the flick of the fingers (now property tax Is 100000% of the value, checkmate "owners").

        >real gun
Because a cheap SAA replica is the same cost as a cheap SAA blank gun. For close up work showing loading or cartridges in the front, it works better, and it still fires blanks for those shots. Why the frick wouldn't they use a real gun?

        >live ammo
Any armorer not trying to negligently kill people won't have any live ammunition (aside from blanks) on set. This one was fricking stupid and used the prop guns to go plinking earlier. The armorer was also letting someone else handle the guns, which is a cardinal sin for them and invalidates the whole point of having an armorer.

On a movie set, the armorer has control of the guns at all times. They keep them under lock and key, and hold onto them on set. They, and only they, physically hand the guns to the actor for the specific scene and then immediately take them back. The point of that is because one qualified person is going to be able to safely coordinate everything better than a dozen random prop, camera, production, and direction people will.

        >inb4 some idiot chimes in with: yuh shud have ebby one check the guns all the time
No. There's a reason they don't do that and that reason is it doesn't fricking work. One person, one responsibility. They are able to devote they're full attention to this one thing instead of a bunch of people with random degrees of experience doing it haphazardly.

Actually the exact opposite and the reason this is going to trial. The FBI tried their hearts out to make the gun fire without manipulating the trigger. I've worked with enough "people" like this to know the answer, but how the FRICK is the fact that the armorer is playing with all the guns like they're toys, not to mention bringing live ammo on set so they can plink with the weapons between takes, not the biggest red flag in the world??? No wonder the previous crew walked off.

for all the autistic discussion that goes on here about CC. So alec baldwin jokingly pointed a revolver (presumably loaded with fmj?) at the director (presumably 10m away or so as to not be in the scene) and killed him with one round?

It IS his fault. He pulled the trigger. And even if it was the armorer’s fault, he A) hired her, and B) didn’t take safety precautions when concerns were raised.

that is absolutely not how things work in film. the armorer takes pretty much exclusive responsibility for confirming the gun is safe.

Industry practices don't supersede the law. A gun doesn't stop being a gun just because it has been handed to an actor, especially when the actor knows it's a real firearm. The guy holding it still bears responsibility.

the people shooting the guns aren't even allowed to check if or how they are loaded ?

                >the people shooting the guns aren't even allowed to check if or how they are loaded ?
Ordinarily, the armorer holds the gun where they and the actor (and other interested parties) can both see it, and either manipulates it to demonstrate it's clear, or loads it in front of them, showing them the ammo (whether blanks or dummies) before it goes in.

For actors (gun guys) who want to go the extra mile and re-check it themselves, the armorer may allow them to do so. But the standard practice is really a very good solution -- everyone who needs to KNOW the gun is safe (or not-so-safe, in the case of blanks) gets to observe it directly rather than take someone's word for it, but the gun only gets manipulated once, by the person who's "known" to be competent.

In this case, the armorer loaded the gun elsewhere, brought it onto the set, and did a visual check (open the loading gate, rotate the cylinder to see the back of the supposed dummies). The actor DGAF and didn't participate in the check at all; the 1st AD did participate, and testified that the armorer half-assed the check, not making a full rotation, but only showed him "three or four" chambers, which all had dummy rounds.
If true, he should've stopped her and insisted she slow down and show him all six chambers -- though I'm not really convinced he'd have noticed the difference anyway.

In some cases, yes, maybe. In other (most) cases absolutely not.

I was an armourer's assistant in a certain big production in my country and we had multiple blank ND's because stupid actors thought they knew how guns work and tried to check/load them on their own based on their experience with other firearms. A classic was trying to load a blowback smg like a kalashnikov which caused ND because the user didn't lock the bolt back.

Tampering also caused multiple malfunctions that we had to clear.

And yes, there was live rounds among blanks in factory packaging. We had to unpack and inspect every single round individually. Over 10 000 blanks were shot during the production.

It is both of their faults. It's her fault for allowing live rounds on set and loading it with live rounds. It's Baldwin's fault for not checking it as well and pointing it at the victim and pulling the trigger.

Why wouldn't the director be standing behind the camera being used to shoot the scene? Given that they're the one person responsible for what actually makes it into the movie, why wouldn't they want to see as the camera is seeing?

According to the testimony in the armorer's trial, the script did not in fact call for it to be pointed at the camera in this scene. We'll see if someone testifies otherwise in Baldwin's trial.

The whole court case is about how women are stupid and frick up everything. Guns are used in films constantly and have been for as long as movies have been a thing and they are pointed at other actors and shot at other actors with blanks constantly. Women suck at everything they do.

              >they are pointed at other actors and shot at other actors with blanks constantly.
Pointing sometimes, shooting blanks not really.
There's tricks with camera angles to make it look like a gun is pointed at the other actor when it really isn't. The closer the actors are together, the less that works -- but also the more danger from firing a blank directly at them. Result is blanks are seldom fired directly at another actor.

it is impossible to examine a gun in a crowded room without at some point pointing it at a dozen people, even if he just laid it down on the table it would probably be pointing at somebody
this is a rare case where it is reasonable to think the gun has been emptied and double-checked, triple-checked, and quadruple-checked, as well as the witness here checking it again just for good measure

If a gun is assembled and capable of firing, treat it as if it's loaded. If the gun is disassembled/not fully assembled such that it is mechanically incapable of firing, then you can point it at other people, but it would still be a good idea to exercise safe practices in the absence of a reason not to do so.
