I recently got into furniture repair and dealing. Does anyone know how I can identify this old accent table? I came across this piece last week and I want to sell it, but I'm not sure what its value is.
There is an ID on the bottom that reads 02HKB and when I Google that a company called Bombay shows up with accent tables ranging from $80 to $800. Any thoughts?
you seem pretty not-knowledgable for a furniture dealer. why should we help you scam your customers?
I work at a furniture repair place. I don't really see a problem with buying old furniture, fixing it, and selling it on the side.
1. Learn as much as you can about wood. How to identify, grade, and evaluate wood. This will tell you quite a bit.
2. Same for paints, finishes, carvings, etc.
Right now antique furniture in particular doesnt have much value. Things that are very well made, durable, and in good condition, or repairable to like new condition, are what you should go for. And they will only sometimes be antiques. Being able to identify and grade wood will tell you when you have a real work of art on your hands, versus some Skymall crap.
Alright, thanks anon
Antiques arent worth shit anymore, this isnt the 90s
The people who bought them are all dead, and the market has been dead for 15 years.
You may be right, but I think there is still a market for solid high quality furniture.

There is, and its not old shitty looking antiques.
They are the definition of passe' and the affluent people who are spending the money dont want their house looking like Grandmas did in 99
Good luck to you though.
spray paint it chrome and somebody will buy it
Wut
Spray paint it chrome, somebody will buy it.
I refuse to believe that’s a real thing. Sure enough it’s all over Pinterest.
Ok. When does the money come rolling in?
Looks like cheap Art Deco style, put $80 on it and hope for $60.
Antique values have dropped, but not the high-end, its maintained its value. This is a cheap piece.
Lots of books on furniture design so you can recognize the styles and methods of construction, learn those and how to id wood.
lock it up with a cat for 24 hours, if the cat uses it as a scratch board it has some value.
