What ever it is it'll probably use the same ammo as the next gen US rifle.
It'll be a HK rifle I imagine because bongland owns part of the company.

Roight chap the new roifle should just be a miniature 5.56 Warrior the blokes can hold in their arms. The little turret would aim itself and be fed with 3 rounds en-bloc clips.
Alternatively soldiers could sit on the thing and roll around thanks to miniature tracks and engine, giving each foot soldier off road mobility.

AI literally consisted of a couple guys in a shed pretending not to be a couple guys in a shed when inspectors come around. They benefitted from handfitting every single gun they made by a small team of experts.
That doesn't translate well to hundreds of thousands of standard infantry rifles. Being able to mass produce a design is part of the quality of a design.

You don't get to do the shed thing if you stop doing the shed thing.
The green meanie not being traditionally mass produced is what allowed it to work on the level it did. That isn't an option for a standard infantry rifle.

yeah but the british empire was literally a couple of guys in london pretending not to be a couple of guys in london when the continental types came around. they benefitted from tea and not liking foreigners very much. so i mean that's fine.

Just get some Canadian C7 or C8s, better than the American rifles, and it’s already used a lot by Brits

They're now just Colt Canada. Which also makes them part of the CZ family. And CZ will probably try to get them to buy BREN II's.

If their small arms industry does what a chunk of their car industry did and moves (ownership plus factories) to India the next rifle could be the AK-203.

It will get an L-designation and all the squaddies on the internet will be "this is the best rifle! most accurate/liked it" At some point levels of cope become overt moronicness and I could see such a shameful happening.

Obviously an AR. They've wanted an AR for years, constantly pretending they don't, but any time an individual unit have the luxury of choice they get ARs. Did the MPs really need to replace the HK53s? Probably not, but they've got C8s now. Isn't it better that SFSG use the SA80, since they're a cover unit for the SAS/SBS? Maybe, they switched to ARs over a decade ago though. Would a bullpup not be ideal for the marine commandos, considering they're fighting both in tight ship interiors and open seas? You'd think so, but they've got 10" C8s now. Did it matter if the ranger unit were still using SA80s considering they don't even fight and will just be training Africans? Not at all, but they've insisted on an AR of their own. For all the seething bongs on /k/ whiteknighting the SA80, if your ignore what they say and focus on what they do (like with women), you'll see they all want an AR and will accept no substitute.

Its time for bongs to drop the tedious tsundere act and just get ARs. It doesn't have to be off-the-shelf, it could be bespoke and integrate all the improvements of the last 50 years with a big monolithic upper and ambi lower and maybe even a folding stock; something distinctive and unique to them that they can be proud of. Just not manufactured locally, bong domestic industry has always been shitty. Remember that Clarkson bit about a guy driving his brand new British car off the lot and having the windscreen fall out and smash on the bonnet when he crosses the gutter, and having none of the replacement windows fit because the whole chassis was out of spec? Thats what you risk by having your new service rifle manufactured in Swindon or Leeds or wherever bong industry still survives.

Is .277 Fury expected to be a NATO standard from now on or are the burgers going to flip flop and go back to 556?

No one knows. It's happening during peacetime so there's no pressing need to adopt it full scale. The US hasn't ordered enough to switch the whole army over. The USMC just adopted the IAR and shows no signs of switching away.

I think it is best if they revert to the snider, or enfield rifle musket if not the brown bess. After the intoduction of foreign designs in the martini, lee metford, lee enfield (little more than a smokess ripoff of the swiss vetterlis rear locking lug design) there was just the sten and then weapons like the SLR(teh FAl) and the SA80( fixed by HK). Note that as soon as they stopped purely indigenous weapon design the empire started to crumble.I say in the spirit of Brexit that the new weapon much be a relatively simple affair manufactured in the back steets of birmingham by children that would otherwise be asking strangers for cigarettes supervised by men of northern England who are barely literate with accountancy performed by Wesel faced Scots Presbyterians using quills. When ready it must be carried ceremoniously by the highest earning members of the conservative party and then given to the royal hindoo who will then allow King Charles to smell it . If the smell is favourable it will be adopted unless the ERG in teh conservative party are unhappy with it in any way. The colour will be decided by a daily mail online poll which Russians can easily manipulate to ensure a pink result. Perhaps a boy from Eaton can do a drawing of a good design. It has to be good enough to steal a Zulu magic bead by right of conquest to be inserted into the royal ceremonial hat, the source of all power in the UK (I wish I was joking).
