>thousands of dollars worth of gear bought fantasizing about going into the outdoors and hiking up tall mountains
>didnt even go hiking once this summer

I still hold a little hope for this winter since most of my gear is focused on winter hiking, but the way things have panned out I'm starting to wonder if anything will happen, or if I'll just stay in my room jerking off, taking pills, and being depressed because my life is going nowhere.

I went out Friday after work. Into the woods 40 minutes out of town. The main purpose was to test my cold weather sleeping bag. But I also jerked off. I don't know why anyone would jerk off any where else.

of dollars worth of gear bought
probably a good investment considering inflation, price hikes and such. Just don't use the stuff and you'll be able to sell in 2-3 years at a nice profit.

I went PrepHole once this summer and it was rather miserable. Not because of the hike itself but because I wished for so much more. I want to wild camp somewhere worth a shit. It's like I was having 20% of what I wanted.

I just have really bad anxiety, really really bad anxiety. I can go with someone else, but alone I get so scared, I've been training myself to not be scared by taking a little xanax every day and forcing myself to go out and do something. Hopefully it works.

I have anxiety issues as well anon. When I was younger there would be times i couldn't scrape myself off the floor because I was essentially paralyzed in panic.
The single biggest thing that helped me get it under control was forcing myself into a situation I was uncomfortable with for a prolonged duration. I had to move to a different country for a time in service of a greater destiny for myself. away from everyone and everything I knew. It was hard for the person I was at the time, I called home a LOT.
DO NOT use drugs, that's just a bandaid and it's only going to make it more difficult to unlock the man you need to become. You need to find that strength inside of yourself, it's there, but you need to force it out so it can kill the weak and fearful part of you.
Learning to be comfortable being alone is another huge step to fighting anxiety. Being alone with your thoughts. What might help is to think of being out in nature not as a solitary experience but as one with a entity who is legion. Make friends with the plants, talk shit to the crows, and run your hands through the water like it's a lover's hair.
You can take baby steps, but you better serve yourself by diving in head-on. When you emerge from the other side of crippling anxiety you will wish you had done it sooner. It'll always be there but it won't dictate your life any longer. good luck anon.

Ah man, I know that pain what did it for me after I tried everything else was just to take 500mg of ashwaganda daily and lift weights, worked for me in less than two or three days and after 3 months not even a trace of anxiety left frens

This is the one I used
            https://www.amazon.com/Pure-Encapsulations-Ashwagandha-Cardiovascular-Occasional/dp/B0016LIL8A/ref=sr_1_23?tag=ganker-20&crid=O6M1KEBVCC7H&keywords=ashwagandha&qid=1666048007&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI1LjA1IiwicXNhIjoiNC42MiIsInFzcCI6IjQuNjEifQ%3D%3D&s=hpc&sprefix=ashwagan%2Chpc%2C606&sr=1-23

Remember how it works is that stress is causing your body to spam you with cortisol. That cortisol is attacking your testosterone in turn nuking your testosterone levels, which is in turn giving you anxiety after it reaches the tipping point.

Using ashwaganda is for lowering the cortisol which in turn is helping your test come back up to normal and lifting weights helps your body make more testosterone so you can tip the scale back. If your really struggling add in 30 minutes of some form of meditations/relaxation because you've got yourself stuck in a negative feedback loop with stress, consider listening to something like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujyu7tkyxtw while you huff some good smells like lavender or bergamot and just chill for 30min a day force yourself to do this for two or three weeks and theirs no way you cant still have crippling anxiety you've completely taken away the environment for it to survive.

not OP but if your situation is that you're starting out with hiking so you plan this shit for the weekend and go, you get on the trail and it's a small steep trail riddled with trash from farmers, there's farmland nearby no matter where you go so you can't go off trail and enjoy actual wilderness, you can't camp, you can't light a fire, you can't do shit. You just walk on the trail until you're all the way up and you're like "y-yay..." and you have this rather dingy view of the trash city underneath because if the view were any good, there'd be a tourist resort here or it would be a national park. so after you've accomplished the end of the hike you get down and go back to the car and on your way out you see 100000000 state funded Black folk shouting in wolof and the horrible shit you hate that's slowly swallowing everything that would make your life bearable
and while you drive back you start daydreaming about fricking off to Alaska or Siberia and actually enjoying some freedom even if you'd die 30 seconds into the winter

Nta, but good perspective from the guy in the video.
I especially agree with the idea that you should find something to throw yourself into.
It's not the same for everyone, but there are passions that consume you and certainly clear up the notion of purposelessness.
For me it's writing. I wish I had a million years to write down all the stories I want to write. I set crazy deadlines for stories I show to nobody, just because I enjoy the the act and purpose of writing. Wasting away or killing myself isn't an option, because I need all the time I can get

It's a matter of drive, I suppose. You just need to want and evetually you will do

I hate it here. There's a reason why all the eurogays only post a picture of their camp with as little field of view as possible. It's always going to be a shit place filled with garbage, 100 meters away from farmland. Because there's nothing wild left unless you go to a national park or 3000 meters on a mountain, which unless you live there means you'll have to be in a ski resort. It's a rich guy's hobby. Every other Black person's idea of camping is just parking in a van somewhere. You have to pay €30 a night to put a fricking tent near some Black person's van I fricking refuse to believe things are so shit

I'm not rich. I'm just lucky that I live next to a giant woodland. Its not wilderness but you can camp without getting disturbed usually.

Went camping with gf in a chink tent in 8° C.
Camping grounds since in Italy it's illegal to do it anywhere else, very little forested land and people have the tendency of not cleaning after themeslves, specially in the south. Anyway we were completely alone since it was cold.
Had a lot of fun, froze our ass a bit while going out at night for a piss.
It was the first time for both of us, didn't sleep at all because of two fricking horny deers that wouldn't stop signaling the whole fricking forest that they were hot and single for 6 hours straight, also very thin foam mats.

Learn from what was uncomfortable and fix it and try again. I've improved my sleep system so much the past year. I went from cold or hot and sore back from bad mats to very comfy now that I know what works for me at what temps

Yeah but in the southern Apennines you're free to camp illegally wherever you want for as long as you want without being disturbed.

Same, spent almost $800 on a new sleeping pad and a proper tent few months ago and it's just sitting in my closet, I just took it out to test it inside my bed room. I went camping once this summer and it was terrible, but the lack of camping during summer can mostly be blamed on the bad weather. None of my friends want to go because they're always busy with either work, family or partying
on top of that I honestly don't know where to go and where to camp. I have this one spot back in my old hometown but I have to drive for like 45 minutes to get there so it just seems like a waste of gas, when I lived there I could just walk. I lived in my current place for almost 3 years and I still can't think of a single place where I would like to actually go and camp. I wish I had money to buy an off road car, I think that would open some more opportunities

Honestly hiking fricking sucks, but it's the only way to properly get away from people. If I could just be dropped into the wilderness from a helicopter that would be way better. I've been hiking a lot less recently and getting into rock climbing instead. I'm gonna try to find someplace where I can climb up and bivy away from people.

What was bad about it? I enjoy hiking to a point but I can't seem to find a decent spot to actually camp. You have narrow trails that go up on a slope - I don't understand if "going off-trail" is even doable here - and then you've got some place that's maybe suitable for camping but it's a spot where anyone else who'd pass by would see your camp. A couple people here have given me the idea of using Google Maps to find a spot that might be suitable, but what happens is that you go there and you'd have to cross the highway and climb a fence (with a backpack) to get in.
Everywhere else is private farmland. I'm at a loss honestly and if I were to drive very far it would cost me way too much. I don't wanna make a reservation to have a spot in a parking lot. What I'm used to is just miserable and made for vans and trailers.

        >What was bad about it
My number one problem is that I'm an extremely picky sleeper. Anywhere that's not my own bed sucks, even hotels. I envy those who can seemingly just fall asleep where ever they decide to lay down. On top of that the gear I had wasn't that good. Just a foam mat that's too narrow for me and a sleeping bag that's just a tad too small. After I had set up my tarp and crawled inside I could feel the ground was sloping, but by that time it was already too dark to find a new spot. During the night, whenever I moved (which I do a lot when trying to sleep) I would slide down to the side and off my foam pad. I tried using my clothes to level off the ground which helped a bit, but in the end I probably got like 3 hours of sleep as I was awakened by birds at 5:30
