      >Everyone laughing here because t90 is a t72 with t 90 turret.
Original T-90 delivered to India as T-90S had a normal cast T-72 turret as well. It was just a T-72 with French thermal imager and option for Shtora.
Russia produced the T-90A with the new welded turret a bit later, but didn't adopt the thermals until after India's T-90S "Bhishma" switched production to the the updated T-90A turret, with Indian-made composite armour cheeks.

I imagine this is happening because Russia took those Indian T-90S that were returned to Russia for overhaul, and used them for the SMO. So now India has to make do running the T-90 turrets they can make, on hulls they have industrial capacity to work on themselves.

They really need to do what the Norks did and just gut it, make a new turret without the autoloader, add bustle storage and be done with it.

India has over 4000 thousand tanks with carousel autoloaders, Pakistan have 1600, imagine the sheer amount of turret tosses if they went to war

Both of them, unlike Russia or (oddly) China, have men they could spare. Might actually improve conditions to kill a few hundred thou on each side.

And once one side would feel existentially threatened, they might go nuclear, from tactical level all the way to blasting cities

Both countries have enough fodder to spend, and would probably come out the better if they followed Russia's example and sent a few million of their criminals, rejects and poors through the meatgrinder.

And once one side would feel existentially threatened, they might go nuclear, from tactical level all the way to blasting cities

One would hope, but I doubt it. Russia, Israel and Pakistan have shown the world that even unhinged, despotic shitholes that have nuclear weapons would never seriously consider using them. Nukes are just a global suicide button (which is what they have been since MAD).

At this point they'd be better off just pursuing their Tank EX project. That's just a T72/T90 hull with an Arjun turret and it would actually probably manage to be better simply because it has imported western optics and blow out panels for the ammo.

You are basically getting t 90s, but instead t72b hull, you would get t72m1 hull which has worse protection, thats all.

One of the few things I've read that is good on the Arjun is the armor composition. What's ass about it is the limitations of the gun and the piss poor mobility due to them hiring Leopard 2 engineers and then scaling up the hull size without accounting for additional power needs. It's like they tried to combine the Chieftain and the original Leopard 2 without doing any studies into how just splitting the difference wouldn't work. Also the giant fricking armor gap at front and garbage power to weight ratio. I do suspect if they just hired the Germans to fix the flaws in the design it could probably work out as a halfway decent tank. The optics and the FCS on the new versions are supposedly pretty good because they're based on newer French stuff.

Why can’t a big country like india just hire a competent team and get them to design something. I mean israel was able to do that and they’re famously supposed to be reliant on all US stuff
