Thoughts on Iran's Aircraft Carriers?

Irans recently created 3 "pseudo" carriers where they take the hull of a oil tanker and add a runway to it for drones and helicopters
It's third one seems to be a departure from this trend by allowing fixed wing craft on it

It seems like a bad idea to invest in capital ships when your only realistic military threats are all countries with superior air forces to you.

an oil tanker with a ramp bolted on seems like a pretty far cry from a capital ship tbh

Why doesn't it have a hangar under the flight deck?

since it's likely a drone carrier they'll fold up nicely to fit in the blocks that tankers usually have

        >tankers
You are showing a container ship loadout though.

It probably isn't structurally possible, those bulkheads dividing the interior up are probably necessary to keep the ship straight and in one piece. What I really don't get though is why they wouldn't get rid of the original superstructure and replace it with something more like a real carrier or even a low profile thing under the deck at the bow (which is what we did when we converted cargo ships into escort carriers) so they can have a less stupid deck design.

They most likely don’t have the ability to alter the structure of the ship like that without causing significant structural damage or introducing a significant time delay. It looks like they literally just pulled off the original ship deck forward of the superstructure and are just putting on an extra wide one.

As I don’t expect Iran to have the best naval engineers I fully expect their “aircraft carrier” to be as seaworthy as the USS Monitor and permanently stuck in littoral areas.

Great targets for the planes and missiles of the USAF, USN, and USMC to hit. They will literally be sunk in minutes on day 1 if a formal war ever breaks out between the US and Iran.

You'll think they would learn something from the Iraqi's during Desert Storm, but nope.

a flaoting drone alunch platform sounds cool, but once the other side shoots back with anti ship missiles it's gonna burn and sink.

The first one is actually a pretty great concept to reuse old tanker. MCS also did that

the rest looks moronic. It's one thing to militarize an originally civilian ship design(some LHD designs were derived from roro ferry) It's an entirely different thing to tack on airstrip to an old cargo ship
