Thought this was cool and wanted to share it for those who haven’t seen it.
It’s basically a scene from Tom Clancy’s red storm rising. It takes the audio book and places over some stuff filmed in i think is dcs
Thought I’d share it and give back to the board in what limited way i can.
Thx anon, i watched it and its nice that dcs give us an oportunity to renact some fictional scenarios. Also tomcats versus bears is Pure kino
I'll just leave this here:
I’d share it and give back to the board in what limited way i can.
cute, OP
thanks for posting
I have the exact audiobook of RSR used in the video. It's breddy great.
I have a soft spot for youtube videos made around recreations in DCS.
In an 80s WW3 scenario did anything actually hinge on Atlantic convoys? Presumably any American (and Canadian) units that would matter would either already be in Europe, or would be brought over by air.
tanks and other heavy equipment couldn't be flown over at any kind of scale needed (like an entire division being flown over)
Wasn't it already in Europe for that reason?
Not enough the push back a full scale soviet invasion but enough to hold the line so the army can fully mobilize and sending forces over the Atlantic
Like WW2, anon, fuel and ammo. Fuel and ammo.
I listened to this whole book on YouTube around Christmas. Very good.
In this scenario how wouldn't the bombers have been intercepted from Norway / UK / Iceland preventing any ruse? Makes no sense at all, there would be dozens of NATO aircraft in that airspace waiting to dunk on any Soviet aircraft that even thought of trying.
...just remembered in the book the Soviets invade Iceland by surprise to start the war, although that itself seems dubious since the NATO counter-invasion would have followed in a few hours with 100x the men and logistics the Soviets could possibly put toward it.
>would have followed in a few hours with 100x the men and logistics the Soviets could possibly put toward it.
From where?
>dubious since the NATO counter-invasion would have followed in a few hours with 100x the men
Doubtful. The point of the book was that the Soviets went after everything at once, starting in Germany.
It takes a few days to get any mass counterattack moving. This is why Taiwan is going to be fucked when China invades next year.
"Demons" remains my personal favorite from this guy.
He's done a few others. After "Demons," "Nordic Hammer" is my other favorite
"Time on Target"
"Frisbees of Dreamland"
He uses the F-117 as the stand-in for the Frisbee for obvious reasons, but having the audio of Clancy at his NSA lecture is a neat touch at the start.
It's a fucking crime and travesty that we never got and probably won't ever get and RSR mini-series. There'd be a huge opportunity to do it, too, after the Ukrainian war. There'd be lots of old Soviet equipment to use instead of CGI and mock-ups, and I'm sure you'd find no shortage of Eastern Euros with combat experience that wouldn't mind playing extras.
Good reading to go along

The whole "Ticonderoga emerging from a massive arc of smoke after expending its entire missile magazine" has been a mental image that's stuck with me since the first time I read RSR 15+ years ago, unfortunate the guy making this video couldnt pull it off
this must be how TV feels when they cast some ugly bitch to play the hottie from their favorite book
My 62 year old father showed me this. Pretty kino.
