I thought this was their oldest tank lost on the battlefield but apparently they lost a T-54-3 a few weeks back.

It is 36 tons of scrap metal that can give about 5000$ (if you are able to tow away it).

Unironically, is the t54/55 better than T72 for the current war? Cheaper and simpler to operate, no N1 booster under the turret and tank to tank combat is extremely rare anyway

They are not more prone to self flagration anon. Their ammo is all over the inside and they rarely have much in terms of antispalling.

Do they even have old stocks for barrels for the T-54/55 once they're worn out?

Bold of you to assume the barrels will get worn out before the tank is destroyed.

I wonder what value tanks have in this war. As far as I can tell they’re just used individually as a direct-fire support weapon, ie, direct-fire artillery. I wonder if that role is so important that they keep feeding them into a grinder Or could it be that they DON’T actually value tanks that much which is why they’re happy to expend the Soviet stockpiles for at least some value on the battlefield? I wonder the war itself is just straight-up attrition until one side can’t do it anymore? Russians are making territorial gains but it seems like one side or the other will give up long before Russia captures the better part of the country. Are they pushing to create an opportunity to cause a general collapse in the Ukie frontline? Or is it just grind away until they can’t hoping the other side calls uncle first?
