Personally I never had a problem. People really made too much of a big deal out of it.the mallet is necessary only the first 2 or 3 times when it's new to separate the upper from the lower.
No it isn't that bad, there is a trick to it and most morons just get filtered by the process.
[...]
I separated my mkii one time when I first got it just because. It can be a pita, but there really is never any reason to even do it outside of putting a new upper on it. I'll never take any of mine apart again unless it is for that reason.
Makes sense. He's pretty moronic, so probably took it apart once and hasn't cleaned it again in a decade.
Yeah, there is a little arm on the hammer (part 21 in that diagram) and it has to rest in a little recessed pocket in the mainspring (part 83). If its not lined up right the hammer wont work. The more you do it the easier it gets, you just need to watch and see whats going on when you are putting the mainspring back in, cant just slap it in there and hope it lines up.
and like the other guy said, you really only need a mallet to separate the upper from the lower which is only really necessary if you are putting a new barreled upper on it, it isn't necessary for cleaning. I had one I had to beat apart and the other came apart easily, so it could be a gun to gun thing or it could be how many times it has been disassembled, not sure.

They don't require a mechanical engineering degree and you probably won't have to send your disassembled gun back to Ruger to have them put it back together, but they're still much more awkward to take apart for cleaning than any gun reasonably should be.
I like mine a lot, probably my favorite 22 pistol I’ve shot and I’ve got to try a decent spread. The new disassembly method is super nice, I just wish Ruger had taken advantage of it and serialized the frame so you could just buy and swap out the top like an upper on an AR.
Good or bad idea to carry a 10/22 with a folding stock in my vehicle for emergencies? I don't know why I'd ever need it but I got a ton of hidden compartments in my vehicle I can think of utilizing so it wouldn't just be rolling around in the open for someone to see.
Maybe if it's integrally suppressed, but a coach gun with a pair of slugs on your belt is legal in all 50 states and will solve any problem you point it at much more reliably than a .22 will.

*but if you're racking up EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE points anyway,
I’ve been loving my Ruger mk4 bros, had a random mom come up to me and want to shoot it then the RSOs make fun of it and telling people it’s what I use to spy on my neighbors.
I can put a bullet through the same hole at like 7 yards so that’s cool.
Since this is the .22 thread, I was gonna buy a 10/22a few weeks ago and ran into one with a scope for $300. Decided to wait until today and turns out it sold two weeks ago. That place said they'd have two more coming in soon so I decided to check the other 3 local stores near me. All of them were selling 10/22 for prices between $570-600. Feels bad, man
Frick this is what I was looking for.with the threaded barrel but was able to get a SW Victory for a good price. I like the Victory but deep down wish it was Ruger. Oh well, not a big deal, plinker gonna plink.
Might trade my PSAK GF3 for a Buckmark with a Tactical Solutions barrel, grip and some good fiber optic sights. Probably would sell the barrel and replace with OEM, thoughts .22 bros?
I too am curious about this. I adore things that are tinier, functional versions of other things, and really want a tiny 1911A1 to match my SA.
I'd buy a llama 22lr if they weren't problematic to varying degrees.
>compact, and not too heavy to carry >precise enough to hit 12” gongs at 100yds using cci mini mags >ultra reliable by .22lr standards, and decent 8rnd capacity (compared to 10 in the MK series) >most fun firearm to shoot in my collection
My friend who just started getting into guns bought a stainless steel Ruger MK IV as his first gun because he loved the aesthetics of it. I tried to convince him to get a 10/22 or something, but he could not be dissuaded.
very based friend. good choice, he is guaranteed to never buy a plastic gun in his life
What 22lr guns are smaller than beretta bobcat and cheaper but arnt derringerz? I want the lightest smallest cutest pocket 22 but all i found are the dumb single action revolvers. Any suggestions?
Yeah, they're Czech guns.
But at Smitty/Ruger wheel gun prices, I'd go for the Yanks.
Too bad that Taurus or Charter can't make a decent .22 Can-Killer.
And what's with all the new SAA .22s on the market now?
Is the Gay Cowboy market that big and lucrative?
They didn't have that many when I was a nipper, and that's when "Gunsmoke" and "Bonanza" were on prime time TV.
My friend who just started getting into guns bought a stainless steel Ruger MK IV as his first gun because he loved the aesthetics of it. I tried to convince him to get a 10/22 or something, but he could not be dissuaded.
I got a mkii government target for $225. Its is by far my favorite handgun and a definite contender for favorite firearm overall. I can see why people complain about the takedown. It's nowhere near as simple as say, a glock, but really isn't so bad once you know how to do it. That said, I find great pleasure in disassembling and cleaning firearms, so my opinion is likely biased.
>mkIII 22/45
quiet host, dumb design (lower/upper fit always had some wobble). Boring. Assembly is easy if you just follow the damn instructions. >Taurus TX22
felt cheap, didn't like the modern design but lack of ambi controls, port pop and optic got dirty fast (had the comp version). Sends HV rounds supersonic. >SW 422
Cool factor, trigger is awful (same spring as the mag release), can't shoot as a lefty without my fingers getting pelted with brass/sparks so had to sell it. >GSG 1911
somehow super reliable, but pot metal construction. Peening everywhere, slide was getting chewed up, inaccurate. even quieter host than the mkIII. Could be a big winner but it's just poor material choice, the machining is great. >KelTec p17
junk, sold after one shooting trip. Can't fully strip for cleaning without taking out like 15 machine screws. >Pardini SP
fancy and fun to shoot but free pistol is more fun. Occasional light primer strikes with cheap ammo
Only one I have at the moment is a P322. It's ambi, threaded, reliable, takes a dot. Biggest downside is the barrel threaded adapter that has to come off to remove the slide for cleaning.
I have only the shittiest 22 options available, the Rough Rider and RS22, but have been thinking about getting something nicer with how fun, easy, and cheap 22 is
So what does everybody feed their 22's?
After much shooting and testing I've narrowed the field down to CCI standard velocity and Norma Tac 22 for my guns. They give me the best/most consistent results.
Outside of the obvious 10/22, any 22lr rifle suggestions? I was looking at the MP5 clone, because seeing a tiny 22lr mag sticking out giant magwell makes me want to vomit.
All of those Umarex .22LR clone guns suck.
Other than the obvious 10/22, there's the American 180, CZ 457 (I'm particularly fond of the Jaguar, pictured), M&P15-22, or maybe some sort of serious ISSF match gun.
As far as modern stuff, there's the winchester wildcat, TCR22 (compatible with 10/22 aftermarket), and henry, if you're into cowboy guns. If you can find a new old stock Marlin 60 you should jump on it.
I have a bunch of guns but no 22. I’m interested in a cp33 or a marlin 60. Almost bought the Winchester wildcat but idk I want old school wood and metal construction, or cool modern space gat like the cp33. I shoot every week and it’s too expensive spending 100-200 in ammo for a couple hours.
Maybe if you were a competitive shooter or something. My mk1 and mk2 target are laser enough accurate for me though...if I found a scorching deal or if I was a rich frick I'd own one though, but for me, there are other guns I'd rather own in that price range.
S&W 41
S&W 17 Target Masterpiece
gun
How are the mk4s? I’ve been looking at them for a while now but the price..ouch
they're like the mk3s but the field strip procedure is less unreasonable
Is the older ones really that bad?
A friend has one, I remember him saying he needs a mallet and the grace of God to take it apart.
Personally I never had a problem. People really made too much of a big deal out of it.the mallet is necessary only the first 2 or 3 times when it's new to separate the upper from the lower.
Makes sense. He's pretty moronic, so probably took it apart once and hasn't cleaned it again in a decade.

I have a mk 1 and it's a frickign nightmare. Reassembling it and getting a successful function check is a crapshoot
It's why I like the Browning Buckmark. It's much easier to take apart than the Ruger Mk series.
the mk iv is a breeze, 1 button take down
I should've specified. Compared to my Mk III, it is much easier.
They're OK. My rough rider actually out shoots my MK 4. Pretty surprised about that one. I hardly use the MK 4 anymore.
I like mine a lot, probably my favorite 22 pistol I’ve shot and I’ve got to try a decent spread. The new disassembly method is super nice, I just wish Ruger had taken advantage of it and serialized the frame so you could just buy and swap out the top like an upper on an AR.

*but if you're racking up EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE points anyway,
The mk4 is sweet. I love my 41, but it's very picky. My mk4 eats everything.
>my aftermarket 41 is very picky
maybe try the original
What is the pistol with the scope, fourth up from the bottom right? I like it
sw 41
I’ve been loving my Ruger mk4 bros, had a random mom come up to me and want to shoot it then the RSOs make fun of it and telling people it’s what I use to spy on my neighbors.
I can put a bullet through the same hole at like 7 yards so that’s cool.
Whoops, mk2 target not mk4.
First time I shot my Mk4 at 7 yards I thought I was completely missing my follow-up shots, turned out all 3 went into the same hole.
Since this is the .22 thread, I was gonna buy a 10/22a few weeks ago and ran into one with a scope for $300. Decided to wait until today and turns out it sold two weeks ago. That’s a lot of nuts!
I recently picked up a target ruger but in alum. can i get a recommendation on a reddot?
I don't have a red dot on any of my 22's but I have been very happy with my PA SLX RS10 on my 10mm glock.
Hmm yes a brick
Frick this is what I was looking for.with the threaded barrel but was able to get a SW Victory for a good price. I like the Victory but deep down wish it was Ruger. Oh well, not a big deal, plinker gonna plink.
I like my victory, I just hate the take down screw tho, even with thread lock that screw walks out :/
Same, what model is it and where to get one? I want a suppressor host, but no "lite" separate barrel nut thread stuff.
Might trade my PSAK GF3 for a Buckmark with a Tactical Solutions barrel, grip and some good fiber optic sights. Probably would sell the barrel and replace with OEM, thoughts .22 bros?
Are Browning 1911-22s good to go?
I too am curious about this. I adore things that are tinier, functional versions of other things, and really want a tiny 1911A1 to match my SA.
I'd buy a llama 22lr if they weren't problematic to varying degrees.
For me it’s the .22lr sp101
>compact, and not too heavy to carry
>precise enough to hit 12” gongs at 100yds using cci mini mags
>ultra reliable by .22lr standards, and decent 8rnd capacity (compared to 10 in the MK series)

Present
My favorite firearm. I am shopping for a supressor that is of the same diameter as the barrel.
https://www.absuppressor.com/little-bird
Thank you!
I would just get an integral barrel tbh
Good idea. I am going to look into that as well.
link to some examples please
is this just longer instead of being wider then?
very based friend. good choice, he is guaranteed to never buy a plastic gun in his life
idk a bunch usually pop up for sale at rock island auction tho. There are a handful of companies making new ones.
It's a tad long but basically the same diameter (.86). Dunno of any other cans that are going to be that OD.
Whered you get that holster?
Sportsmens Guide. it has a pocket on the front to carry a spare mag, and it has a nice embroidered Ruger logo.
What 22lr guns are smaller than beretta bobcat and cheaper but arnt derringerz? I want the lightest smallest cutest pocket 22 but all i found are the dumb single action revolvers. Any suggestions?
brownie or SW 2213
based
tell me about that pistol
NTA, but it says Carroll, IA and Volquartsen is located in Carroll, IA. I am guessing it's something they make or used to make.
Other anon was pretty much on the money its an older version of the Volquartsen LLV on a Ruger 22/45 frame.
I miss all the uppers that they used to make
What this country REALLY needs us a good quality .22 DA revolver at non Smitty or Ruger prices.
I had hopes for the RIA, but I see the crack-smoking homiez are asking half a yard or more for them.
Armscor
oh yeah saw you mentioned RIA/Armscor. Aren't they just rebranded CzechPoint? shame about the price
Yeah, they're Czech guns.
But at Smitty/Ruger wheel gun prices, I'd go for the Yanks.
Too bad that Taurus or Charter can't make a decent .22 Can-Killer.

Is the Gay Cowboy market that big and lucrative?
They didn't have that many when I was a nipper, and that's when "Gunsmoke" and "Bonanza" were on prime time TV.
Iktf, it's a weirdly empty market niche. The closest thing I can find is the Taurus 942.
My friend who just started getting into guns bought a stainless steel Ruger MK IV as his first gun because he loved the aesthetics of it. I tried to convince him to get a 10/22 or something, but he could not be dissuaded.
In his defense the MKs are pure sex
rifles are gay; I will not be dissuaded
No
ya muddah
he's got good taste, but convince him to get a 10/22 as well, they're great
Got me a brand-new .22 to shoot. I'm very excited.
Waiting for one of these to roll into LGS, seems like a fun hiking rifle.
I got a mkii government target for $225. Its is by far my favorite handgun and a definite contender for favorite firearm overall. I can see why people complain about the takedown. It's nowhere near as simple as say, a glock, but really isn't so bad once you know how to do it. My old man gave me his 22.
nice. this is the best kind of firearm. handed down from our forefathers
i plan on getting a second threaded 22 pistol but it probably wont be another mk4. mainly because i just want to try something new.
my opinions on the ones I have owned and sold
>mkIII 22/45
quiet host, dumb design (lower/upper fit always had some wobble). Boring. Assembly is easy if you just follow the damn instructions.
>Taurus TX22
felt cheap, didn't like the modern design but lack of ambi controls, port pop and optic got dirty fast (had the comp version). Sends HV rounds supersonic.

for me, it’s the Beretta 87 Target
I mean, just look at her
gander had one years ago but the reviews I read online stopped me from buying, worst decision ever
it’s the pistol I took my loicense qualification exam with
it shot fine, no particular complaints
The new one has no SOVL
any reason not to get one of these savage mk 2s?
frick forgot pic
I own one, it works fine but the fit and finish is ass. If I were you I'd spring for a CZ.
I cant find any locally plus it will be a wheeler gun so it will bounce around a lot
>it will be a wheeler gun so it will bounce around a lot
Oh well in that case it's perfect.
terrible magazines
they dont feed or what?
they're bad
I want to get one and a dead air mask, which one should i get bros?
get one what? threaded 22 pistol?
join the p322 club (I use my mask on it). Or, GSG 1911 for cheap plinking fun. Single action is god's action.
also this is a required accessory for mask, I have one. pricy tho https://www.ebay.com/itm/224161959028
I have only the shittiest 22 options available, the Rough Rider and RS22, but have been thinking about getting something nicer with how fun, easy, and cheap 22 is
Who is the market for vudoo and those auschwitz (sp?) rifles?
So what does everybody feed their 22's?
After much shooting and testing I've narrowed the field down to CCI standard velocity and Norma Tac 22 for my guns. They give me the best/most consistent results.
cci clean-22 so I avoid lead contamination and poisoning
I just run federal auto match, it is accurate and reliable in every 22 I own and it is reasonably priced.
honestly, what ever I can find
Federal AutoMatch is my go-to.
Been running a lot of aguila lately, it's dirty and smells weird but other than that it's reasonably reliable and cheap enough
Boxes of 325 federal, just bought 10 boxes for $17.89 each.
I know this is a 22 thread but anyone have a list of people that make 17hmr pistols?
What do you think about my Franken buckmark
Outside of the obvious 10/22, any 22lr rifle suggestions? I was looking at the MP5 clone, because seeing a tiny 22lr mag sticking out giant magwell makes me want to vomit.

The biggest travesty in rimfire today is that CZ quit making those 45x models with full stocks.
>those 45x models with full stocks
Yeah, those were the hotness if you wanted something with a less unreasonable barrel length.
As far as modern stuff, there's the winchester wildcat, TCR22 (compatible with 10/22 aftermarket), and henry, if you're into cowboy guns. If you can find a new old stock Marlin 60 you should jump on it.
I need a scope recommendation for my Mark 4. I want to reliably hit at 100 yards
it's just so damn good.

w2c grips like that for a mk4
