Thermal sensor on top that overlays thermal signature onto the optic itself.

You do realize most of us have money to buy fun stuff now and also later? That’s part of being an adult and having disposable income, zoomer anon. I’m not gonna cry that the $4k thermal clip on i bought is gonna be out dated in a few years by alot, i’m only going to think about the cool memories i made riding around the desert looking for some wendussy

its cool tech and looks good indoors but at range it would be useful i doubt it will actually work well enough to be worth it

Sensor resolution on it should allow for several hundred meters of detection range.

Has a 320x tops for a pistol optic, you’ll never know what anything really is past 150 yards. The lens and resolusion criples it hard

It's not a pistol optic, it's larger than a Sig 8T. The sensor resolution for the 1800 dollar one is 256 and the 2200 dollar one is 384. The objective lens size on the latter is fairly large.

What could their overhead be if holosun can do it for a 10th of the price?

Either that or their margins are stupidly fat. Like OI margin of 30%+

Costs $5400 everywhere now, and no absolutely not

        >r&d costs
Thermal overlay has been a thing since land warrior at least. It's just an extension of CG overlay. Which was a thing in the 70s.
This is a revolution in application. Not tech.

They stopped making that now and have been clearanced out at several retailers that still have stock of them, I've seen it for under $4k before.

        Why?

Can't say for sure, Steiner (and Burris as they own Steiner) got into thermals pretty late compared to other thermal brands it was not very price competitive to those other brands with same tech specs.
Last I heard about Steiner's thermal optics they are releasing a new series that fixed a lot of complaints they had i.e. too low battery life, too heavy and bulky and probably priced according to the market.
This one model the CQT did not really sell well at the MSRP and honestly the thermal market does not have a "need" for it as the CQT is aimed more for doorkickers than hunters (who are the majority of thermal owners in the US imo). The detection range is not suitable for long range, it is monochrome that is hard to determine what is the target thermal signature is. And the price was just too high for the civilian market imo.

I don't know, so you can clear a room without someone shooting at your flashlight?

        Anonymous

        >slowly scanning a room with your extremely narrow FOV thermal pistol red dot to clear it
        >when anyone intent on shooting you could be returning fire relying on anything from light outside the room backlighting you to the noise of you entering the room

While I'm not saying it's a must have utility, but being able to just put your crosshair on the green thing instead of actually having to pick them out of a background manually is one less thing your brain has to think about.

Thermals will be on IVAS type of ARGs.
