      Fuck destroyers, MORE CRUISERS

        What's the ACTUAL difference?

AFAIK the new Frigate class we ordered is a big firgate akin to a small cruiser, and our previous tico cruisers were essentially somewhat small destroyers. Our new destroyers are going to be similar or larger than our current ones.

So what exactly does a cruiser do that positions it between Frigate and Destroyer that neither a frigate nor destroy can do?

Ticos are basically destroyers, there is nothing really that makes them a "cruiser" more than a Burke destroyer is.

            Anonymous

At this point there is little or no real difference between a destroyer, a cruiser, and a frigate. Those words used to mean something a long time ago, but now all modern warships (except carriers) fall into roughly the same size category and the only meaningful differences are armament and role.

Budget differences I guess. Tell congress "Oh that's an x we have, but what we really need is y" Congress breaks open the purse, and the navy now has two ships instead of one.

My guess is the planned Large Surface combatant will fill the role. That or I could see some sort of modified Flight III Burke with an expanded superstructure for the additional C2 spaces a-la Japan's fivehead Aegis ships

Correct, DDG(X) will be taking on the roles of the Ticos in part. However they aren't going to be able to replace the Ticos 1 to 1 anytime soon, so overall we will have diminished fleet command/control/comms capacity in comparison to the Ticos.

The plan is to hope our new toys are enough to deter them (DDG(X), Columbia-class SSBN/SSGN, new 6th gen navy fighters, and more advanced missile systems and radars).

China can keep a generation behind us easily enough by just copying what we do, but they're not able to actually get ahead by doing this and I think our tech advantage will hold at least for the next 30-50 years.

Long term is obviously much more difficult to say, if no major wars happen china will very likely attain economic and military dominance at some point.

Endurance. Destroyers have tiny crews that end up constantly overworked attempting to 'cruise' the way their gun-totting light cruiser forebears would. When you try and split the job to two cruiser-sized ships with destroyer crews, instead of one cruiser with a cruiser crew, you get two combat-ineffective vessels with poor situational awareness and readiness, as evidenced by the last decade's collision extravaganza.

So NATO is simultaneously a tool of US hegemony, and something that vatniks only think is a tool of US hegemony because vatniks don’t understand friendship and working together.

This reminds me of how libtards will simultaneously gloat about putting “urban housing” or community centers in middle class areas, then say they are a positive, good and enriching thing. >If the mutt control the waters,
The U.S. has demanded open navigation, not exclusivity, which is achieved and preserved.

I guess China will need to do some freedom of navigation in the West coast again.

This is all good and all, but why is the US allowing ASEAN countries to bend over backwards to China, and allowing China to build alternate routes such as Myanmar to by pass the South China Sea entirely, and allowing Chinese developers to buy a large chunk of land in Malaysia right next to the Malacca Strait?

The way this is looking, by the time there's an actual war, the US Navy may end up facing bottlenecks itself while the Chinese have half a dozen routes connecting to them by land and sea.
When there needed to be a focus on the South China Sea back in the early 2010s, the West didn't pay attention (because busy wasting time in Libya) and allowed China to de-facto annex and build islands off the northern Philippines. Now there's too much focus on it, while China has long moved on from it to diversity to other areas of interest.
China is baiting the US into hyper-focusing on Taiwan alone, so that the US doesn't tangibly counter China materially and geopolitically across the board

Half of US ships are 40yr old scrap that will get deleted the first day of war. US is just virtue signalling. That's why the rest of ASEAN are siding with China

Wow, you sound like Indians do when they ridicule China. Except when they say it, they have a history of victories to back it up, whereas the chinese are the same criminal oligarchy/mafia state as Russia, with the same problems of corruption and graft, covered by a thick veneer of bullshit and a toxic miasma that reeks of piss and shit and shame of a people who have never known victory, only conquest and surrender.

Yes but without US markets China is fucked. Their industry is catered to producing cheap consumer goods and the US market is the biggest and wealthiest that they sell to. Their dependence on US trade is part of the reason why they’ve been trying to open new markets in africa and the americas. Actual sanctions would fuck them, but it would fuck the US too, we’d need to bring industry back for that to be feasible

        Anonymous

Their domestic market is now their largest market, being the West's factory has already achieved it's purpose of acquiring baseload industrial tech and securing intake of raw materials. They're now expanding to the global south via BRI primarily to secure the raw materials intakes (independently of western sources), and shitting out a blue water navy to defend this BRI from any potential Western blockades/embargoes/BDS/etc. (becoming sanctions-proof).

The sanctions have as much to do with changing the world economy to exclude Russia as much as it does with hurting Russia. Something you people don’t realize is that the sanctions aren’t gonna go away, and the western world will quickly adapt like we always do. Once that is over, there will genuinely be no place for Russia on the world stage.

South korea is even more of a chained dog than Japan for all of their bluster. They literally don't even have operational control of their military on matters pertaining to north korea. If the war goes hot again, a US General is put in command of all ROK/US forces on the peninsula

No arguing that. The anon I was responding to was no doubt baiting but I don't see a scenario in which the United States gets into a scrum with China where Korea and Japan don't end up helping the States. Even the Russia/Ukraine thing on the other side of the world has Japan doubling its defense budget and their prime minister making pals with Korea's new president. The two know without a shadow of a doubt that a world with America/the West on top is leagues better for them than one with a dominant china
