99% of the time they're good for a joke and an unbelievable hunting story. I'm of a mindset /k/ has been run off because they fired half their mag into the ceiling and needs to make shit up.

I've never actually so much as shared a word with an RSO before. They see me doing my thing and leave me be, and I've never had to ask them for anything myself. Hopefully I can keep this going.

They're mostly just old dudes looking for company because they can't stand being in the house, can be rather annoying but that's hard to discern until you talk to them and boy that can be an event. I ran into one old crusty frick who was in gun company gear head to toe but he said he wears that to stop people from talking to him. Ended up talking about gunsmithing with him over coffee at the range.

My local indoor range doesn't have RSOs. They don't even care if you rapid fire as long as your shots are on target, which is pretty strange for these parts. Most ranges of shot time rules

The boomer in my gold forsaken Bay Area city struggle to keep the ranges open. Politicians are always trying to shut them down and only one indoor range exists in a city with over 1 million. Thankfully there is beautiful BLM land within an hours drive.

He's wearing his pants at the waist line, which would be the naval. It's the correct way to wear pants and he cared enough about his appearance to actually tuck in his shirt and not be ashamed of the appearance of it. Seems like a good dude. Personally I'm more about them suspenders. You can adjust them manually a lot easier than a belt but I also like to stick with something light weight with an elastic band when I do. Kinda like pajamas sort of quality, even if you get those steel grippy things it just doesn't work well on cotton jeans or otherwise cotton products. You really have to double up on suspenders and a belt and at that point you might as well have a belt you wear as a belt and not a thing that holds up your pants. I know it sounds dumb but if you're pants are shitty quality and you know your suspender isn't going to work you're going to spend a lot of time re-adjusting your pants with your belt on it. I like to wear both if I got a gun on my belt, then you don't have to use the belt loops and constantly re-adjust it.

My first experience with an RSO was him insisting that to shoot a target 50ft away I had to set the sights on my Mosin to 5. Even as a teenager I knew that was wrong and that setting was for 500, ended up giving up and firing a few rounds at that setting until another RSO came up and managed to talk some sense into him.

I'm still in disbelief that I was supposed to tip range officers all these years and I never knew. You mean I have to pay for membership fees, pay markup on guns I buy in the store AND they get to keep my brass, and I still have to pay their employees for them?

      >supposed to tip range officers

I've been to many indoor ranges and never heard this.
Also, no fricking way I'd tip a RO.

At worst they make the range unusable.

I have never met a good RSO, every single one has been a complete hardass that refuses to allow anything even slightly outside of what they personally consider correct
    >go to indoor range near me
    >already not a fan of it, RSOs there are all 60 years/250lbs minimum
    >still, no choice because my usual range banned me over a ND (not my fault)
    >pay the range fee, set up on lane
    >decide to start off with some AR practice
    >doing a simple fire from cover drill
    >not even two cycles in when RSO runs over
    >starts loudly b***hing about how you're only allowed to fire from a standing position
    >yeah, because in a real life situation I'm totally going to be standing straight up in the middle of an aisle
    >whatever, move on to simulated rifle jam to sidearm draw drill
    >literally don't even have time to finish one before RSO Tubbs comes waddling over
    >this time he's complaining that all guns need to be pointed downrange
    >trying to explain to him that the whole point of a rifle sling is being able to drop your rifle when it jams to draw your sidearm
    >he refusing to hear anything I say
    >this close to walking out but stay because I don't want to have wasted 20 bucks
    >since apparently I can't do anything approaching an actual drill, just decide to practice rapid fire sidearm accuracy
    >first mag almost entirely hits the target, last couple went a little, tiny, itty-bitty high
    >RSO comes out again with manager and yells at me to leave
And that's how I learned to literally never go to any range ran by fudds

      Anonymous

Nogunz here, I’ve been to an indoor range and shot from a standing position and the range guy was friendly and helped me out. Are you allowed to do stuff like fire while crouching and simulate a rifle jam? Or am I just responding to a copy pasta

You sound like the biggest gay. Now tell us the ND story or ge’out.

Friend was shooting my gun, stopped and took the mag out but didn't clear the chamber. Handed to me and I saw the hammer was still back. Dropped the hammer and it went off. 100% his fault, you never hand someone a loaded gun like that.

I've had an RSO just sit and frick around on her phone while I was the only one shooting in an indoor range. I even did a magdump and she didn't even bat an eye at me. It sounds to me like you're a known problem child who tries to push the indoor range rules as much as possible for your gay "drills" to make the RSOs uncomfortable with your presence. Also how the frick is an ND not your fault?

          >100% his fault, you never hand someone a loaded gun like that.

100% YOUR fault. You always check the chamber of a gun handed to you even if you JUST watched the guy handing it to you check it. You put an unloaded gun down and leave the room and come back and pick it up YOU CHECK THE CHAMBER.

Imagine applying that logic to anything else.
            >ride with buddy to gas station
            >he goes inside to buy beer
            >while he's inside, cut the brake lines
            >we crash
Haha dude 100% your fault the owners manual says to do a thorough inspection of your car before driving it

              Anonymous

The opportunity cost of checking a gun anytime it enters your hand is very low. The cost of fricking up with it can be very high. You do you though.

100% your fault dude. You always check the chamber, everytime, no matter what.

I've never visited any indoor range that allowed this type of shit. In fact, most indoor ranges require some type of demonstration of proficiency to draw from a holster... And I fricking get it. I've seen some top tier bullshit at the range where the RSO doesn't even have to yell at them because I already did. Don't be a fricking homosexual.

RSOs at my range can be hit and miss
    >Got told to carry my slung rifle barrel down, walked 30 paces, next RSO told me to carry it barrel up.
    >Old boomer wanted me to single load my nugget. Literally asked me not to use the internal magazine "because it's not needed for target practice". I did not comply.
    >got told to 'stop handling firearms during a ceasfire' when I stapled a target to a board.

Plenty of good experiences with cool old dudes who would have gone to the range with Jesus.
    >bought new 20in scattergat to the range to see how it patterns with #4 shot
    >RSO sees me and asks me not to shoot because the range is busy, unless I'm shooting slugs
    >ok fair enough, good chance I'll spray other people targets
    >propose to make cut-shells
    >"What in the world is a cut-shell"
    >explain the concept of cutting around the hull so it seperates rather than the crimp opening
    >RSO smiles and says "Well I can't let you shoot modified ammunition at this range, but if you happen to have slugs in your car, thats fine" and gives me a wink
    >Go make some cut-shells and have a coffe
    >proceed to throw the poor mans slugs through paper and ending up with more keyholes than the locksmiths wholesale warehouse.
    >RSO says in his 40 years of shooting he's never seen slugs that bad *wink wink*
