Why do I see some people hold certain rifles while shooting from the magazine?

Do some rifles get too hot to hold anywhere else?

Are they manlets with T. rex arms?

This is a Russian/Soviet way of shooting AK-style rifles. You see it in the west too though because some like it tactically speaking and some just take the Russia LARP far.

Some soviet style instructors insisted on holding the magazine. I heard once it's because there used to be tension problems in the AK-47's mag release when you shot and the parts were shitty. It sort of just stuck from that from what I know. Might just be fuddlore though. Seen plenty people hold the handguard even from Russia.

Because it's comfy. Not really great for recoil control but it's less strain on the arm. Also ak handguard gets hot fast.

Cause when you're in the military you have to hold your rifle at the ready or shouldered at the very least for hours at a time. Your arms get fatigued pretty fast so its natural to hold it in a way thats easier even if its not the best for stability or whatever the frick

      tis a fine rifle

      I do that with ar-15s
also functions as a monopod when shooting prone

It's worse on an ar15 than it is on an ak for a stable shooting platform. The ak's center of gravity will be exactly where your index or middle finger is on a loaded gun, whereas that's not the case with a loaded ar15.

That's how you're supposed to hold the rifle when shooting from the kneeling position like he's doing. You can see that he's using his knee as another point of contact. This makes for a more stable shooting position than if he had his support arm extended out straight to hold the rifle by the handguard.

For the AK, it’s a very useful handhold while carrying the rifle. It’s balanced pretty well right there, and as others said it doesn’t burn your hand. Simple transition from carrying rifle one handed to shouldering.
Interestingly, a pretty common way of holding rifles for Russians is with both arms, in the crook of the elbows. So many pictures like that.

If you think the AK-74 is an ancient antique, just wait until you discover the AK-47, the 1911, the Glock 17, the AR-15, and the 10/22.

Victorian era Mauser is still kicking, too.

Are they manlets with T. rex arms?

I've had to do that when my AR handguard got way too hot to shoot.

Don't forget the donbabwean cannonfodder armed with nuggets during the early war

When was the last/most recent sighting of a nugget in action in Ukraine anyway?

It was the spiritual inheritor of mass SMG deployment by the Soviets and in its intended use, kind of actually worthy of the 'machine pistol' moniker used to ruse Hitler with the MP/STG-44

It's probably the most perfect assault rifle ever created. It seems to be really hard to push the concept of the AR even further than what the AK provides.

Not even this is right since the year designation by that time meant prototype. It changed to AK when it was officially adopted.
