They're here. Drones with guns

Short bursts only but it seems pretty fricking amazing. These can probably be used to annoy the frick out of fixed positions at night, since they can fire into trenches from that angle

Why shoot forward? Doesn't it just make it harder to aim and balance?

      >Why shoot forward? Doesn't it just make it harder to aim
No, shooting backward would make it harder to aim.

        Are you both fricking moronic?
        It's a gyro-stabilized drone.

So what? If it shoots backwards the camera can't see what it's shooting.

            What camera?

Probably, but on the other hand it has the benefit of letting you shoot someone without having to be directly above them, as well as giving a normal silhouette to aim at instead of just helmet and shoulders.

They were working on stabilisation solutions and I have to wonder how much progress they're making.

I saw it here yesterday; I think that's when it was first released:
      https://t.me/russianocontext/3073

This reminds me of the suicide drone that killed the zigger on the dirt bike. Sure it got him but Russian lives aren't worth anything about the dirt bike was probably like, $2000 or something? Vs the cost of a suicide drone. Just gunning idiots down and returning to base is many scenarios is more useful than kamikaze attacks on things that are worth less than the drone itself

The kamikaze drones cost roughly $500, so still less than the dirtbike. That said, I agree that reusability is ideal, and I've actually seen some groups using cheap FPV drones in a reusable capacity to drop explosives. It's different from the traditional grenade drops though, in that from what I've seen they only use it against stationary equipment, and the method is that they descend to just above it, drop the explosive, then immediately zip up and away, like the attached .webm. If they added a tilt servo to a normal FPV camera mount, I would think they could make it work for a traditional high-altitude drop too.

The drones look really fricking ineffective ATM, but goddamn it's a start.
My folder of man made horrors within my comprehension is slowly being dwarfed by the folder of man made horrors I cannot comprehend.

If this footage is from 3 weeks ago, the immediate effect was that the Russians didn't even try to fight back against the machine gun drones, they just fricking ran, terrified and screaming. Something about drones with guns just made them snap.

Of course that scenario will change with time, but then with Ukes coming up with new variants of drones every other weeks so with their effectiveness.

NTA but is this "don't want to know" as in making man-made horrors beyond comprehension or as in making man-made financial blunders and dead ends beyond comprehension?

desu, it seems kinda in line for the cost of a drone of that size
DJI sells something that seems somewhat comperable for $17000
      https://store.dji.com/product/dji-inspire-3?from=site-nav&vid=136551
127 of these would be $2,000,000 at that rate
the $12mil price is probably going to include things like training, shipping/delivery, spare parts, and a bunch of other overhead. not to mention the actual munitions

Here we go gents, we have seen the modern Mark 1 tank, it's largely ineffective and will be written off as a waste of resources by many but it will evolve into a game changer.

The first standardized, properly stabilized, and cost-effective gun drone solution will really shake the world. If it can kill soldiers reliably and return to operator for reload & recharge, there will be no reasin to not spam the hell out of them until someone develops an effective counter.

Improvized suicide drones are already cheap enough when they are made for short range use, but the idea of getting something that can kill a soft target and return for another mission with almost zero operating costs beyond the price of the drone itself is revolutionary. Juat remains to see how long it will twke to solve the stability issue.

They should just solid mount the gun on the drone and have it in line with the CG so no need for stabilization.

Reusability might not be worth it over current crash variants on hot battlefield if it costs much more. With crash variants you'll know how many you have in the bag for missions.
You wont have to bother worrying about anyone tracing it back to your position.

Wouldn't these things be easier to shoot down if they're floating there trying to line up a shot?

Absolutely, "baba yaga" type drones (big agricultural drones) already all mostly fly at night due to this. The thinking is if the drone is expensive you might as well make it as acapable as possible, so they all use thermals as well as starlink for EW resistance.
