I dunno, the opening stages of a US-China war over Taiwan would be pretty massive, 2+ carrier groups and all US forces in the Pacific versus maybe 50 stealth fighters and thousands of Soviet era chaff, mite b kino
Not quite, in most cases the invasion of Taiwan is blunted, but the Chinese mainland is never under any threat, and is able to maintain a partial blockade via their shore based systems.
Fun idea would be repurposing QF-4/QF-16's in either a "loyal wingman" program or pre-planned strike programs against an opponent like China. Have them fly with a bunch of Growlers and and it becomes a choice of engaging the strike and revealing Air Defense positions/using loaded munitions or allowing the strike through.
That shit is going to be wild, ongoing air combat between multiple nations. Long range missiles aren't going to settle everything. There are going to be up close dogfights. Plus Taiwan will keep some planes underground until the initial bombardment die down.
I just hope the F-22 gets to show what a special girl she is. It's downright unfair that what will probably end up being the best manned air superiority fighter ever built might never get to dogfight
I think there will be, the difference is instead of lasting 3 months like the Battle of Britain it will only last a week or two as every plane can get several A2A kills per sortie.
Honest but likely stupid question: how to planes/jets avoid collisions during air to air combat? Like especially the heavy shit with hundreds of jets in the air? Yeah I get it there's a 3D battlefield in the air but still.
Modern western fighters use datalink and helmet mounted displays to show friendlies, this is how they can maintain close formations in clouds.
As for less advanced planes and western vs enemy it's all radar and mk. 1 eyeballs, if you don't have a lock and can't see them you don't know where they are and you could hit them.
>knowing not one more life will be wasted on stupid "air duels"
good
There definately will be, itll just be drones and maybe the odd piloted mothership.
Good because life isnt a video game and there is no honor in dying for israeli banker wars.

Wargaming indicates both initial carriers will be sunk on the first day.
yeah and then the other 9 show up and push china's shit in, it's a movie perfect pearl harbor- midway plot rehash

The US airforce would absolutely be able to terrorise the mainland
It took a month of constant bombardment to sink 1 super carrier, I think they'll be just fine.

then the carriers get blown up by chink missile spam

Sometimes they don't.

Luckily we have computers and rich imaginations.
Israel v iran very likely, though it will probably be a one-sided slaughter
drone on drone dogfighting
>you will never be as stupid as OP
Feels good man
will never be another giant air battle
>How does it feel?
Pales to wishing Hitler won
