The US should stop supporting dying societies like Japan or Korea and start seriously supporting India. India has a young population, excellent arms industry and will dominate the region really soon
What weapons should the US give to India?

Why would we support allies of our enemies who constantly insist we were preparing to invade them forty years ago despite that we were literally there to taxi troops back to their homeland during a ceasefire THEY agreed to?

To say nothing of illegally violating sanctions on our enemies, regularly stoking genocidal hatred in their own population, throwing foreigners under the bus for their own failures, practicing slavery on a grand scale, refusing to cut down on massive pollution, and generally being dicks to us and buying shit from our enemies seemingly out of spite. If we could pull the stick out of our ass and stop hating the British, they can stop hating the USA.

India has the most incoherent foreign policy out of all the world powers. They will never be fully trusted by the West.

Also, India has a completely bizarre world view where they for whatever weird fricking reason seem to believe the West should gift them high end technology, like for nothing in return.

      Anonymous

Also the latest example of this is when the U.S. and Britain decided to give Australia nuclear submarines. The Indians officially submitted a diplomatic complaint demanding an explanation for it, and online, all of their shitty news programs had reports saying that India deserved this technology and the only reason it wasn’t given to them was racism.

Indians are like brown Russians. They would probably take that as a compliment, which would say a lot about them.

        Anonymous

        >the U.S. and Britain decided to give Australia nuclear submarines
There was no "give" involved here. Australia is paying a frickton of cash and entered into "other agreements" as part of that deal.

India trying to pretend this is some sort of "gift" is prima facie proof that they aren't capable of comprehending the seriousness of and responsibility for that level of technology. They would violate OpSec within 48 hours and hold an open auction to sell it off to anyone who could throw some bribes their way.

One reason India and russia are in bed together is that both societies are corrupt beyond the imagination of almost all Westerners. Support either country is the same as supporting the other and spreading the corruption, normalizing it for criminal organizations to crush the lower classes into slavery.

        > t. I know more about India than I can possibly explain, but I have to go vomit now that I've had to think about it again.

It's a country the size of the US except every single state is actually a different culture, not pretend a different culture like the US likes to tell itself. California and Virginia have more in common with each other than Kerala and Telangana.
How many languages are natively spoken in the US? Day to day? English, Spanish, and maybe a native language if you're on a reservation?
      There's twenty two Indian languages.
Until a couple hundred years ago they actually fought wars with each other. Consider how big a deal Americans treat their solitary civil war as.

I can't give you a conclusive answer. I just don't think it's unexpected considering how unwieldy and bloated the country actually is. Despite being full of brown people it's not some kind of homogenous ethnostate.

India has no tech/military equipment to offer
India has not gone through a phase of having it's ambitions curbed yet, and likely in the future will attempt to rival the US in the region
The primary benefit India offers (bodies to be used against Chinamen bodies) will likely to be available, us alliance or no, because India has its own hostility towards china

They are part of the Quad, so that's a start. Still, there are lots of reasons why the US, along with my country (Australia) and the rest of the free world are cautious about India.
    >Modi (and the India govt. in general) has authoritarian tendencies.
    >Erratic foreign policy makes it hard to trust the India Govt.
    >There is serious concern that a war may start with Pakistan.
    >Nobody wants to risk India becoming the "World's factory" the way China used to be/is, and being held by the balls economically.
    >India's refusal to go against Russia hasn't done much to ingratiate them to the West

The US supports Pakistan because India was USSR leaning during the Cold War and we needed a counter to their regional power. If India could clean up it's act, pardon the pun, and even pretend to be a stable and trustworthy ally, the US would certainly reconsider who and how much we actually prefer one to the other since it's not like Pakistan doesn't piss of the US on the regular as well. However, India's insistence on LARP'ing as a super power and opposing US interests, ala BRIC, means that it's hard to justify switching horses.

      Anonymous

Also India and China don't get along so they'll be more than happy to frick the Chinese over if they step out of line without needing any incentive from the West. So of the US's main rivals India is too friendly with one and already hates the other, so what gain is there in assisting them strategically? Geopolitically there's not much reason to ally with India unless we can get some material benefit out of it, which they have yet to offer.

Strategically India would make a good counter to China for the West, but unfortunately Indians themselves are steeped in anti-Western nationalism and that will be expressed whatever party is in charge, so the West should keep it's distance. South Korea and Japan also have obnoxious anti-Western nationalist factions but they're not the overwhelming majority as in India, and moreover SK and Japan have firm political consensus about being Western aligned while India fancies itself an independent player.

The West courted Pakistan, the USSR India. It won't be until the decline of Russia to the extent they can no longer support India economically and politically in its border disputes with China that they will pivot West. India being close with Russia acted as a wedge between Russia and China until recently and that will only lessen further as China becomes the more senior partner.
Pakistan is already closer with China than the West now so India is a sensible pivot. Their embarrassing domestic nationalism isn't much worse than Turkey which isn't saying much but all they have to do is keep opposing China.

Huge countries, both geographically and population wise, like China, India, even the U.S to a lesser degree, are going to be the worst places to be in the coming decades.
Small, relatively cohesive nations with cool climates are the ones who will be agile enough to side step the coming calamity.
    India etc...are completely unsustainable.
They are too big, too hot, require too much food, water, energy, and will end up as failed states eventually.
The success stories of the future will be smaller countries in the north.
Globalism is the dead weight that will eventually pull China, India etc... under the water permanently.
So, yeah, don't worry about them being this superpower in the making... it's all an illusion.
