    Are they drop safe

      Anonymous

When a gun is dropped, very rarely is it at the height and angle needed to make the firing pin hit the primer. Like extremely rare. Also, none of the 1911s used by the military had a firing pin block, but it wasn't an issue for them. People are blowing this out of proportion. If you're you're that scared, then just put a titanium firing pin it for a few dollhairs.

I don’t understand the hype around these I have shot them before at a product demo and they feel nice but somehow also cheap. The only reason people like them is because of how good their marketing is and how they look at guntuber posts

      Anonymous

They seem cheap because the companies that make them try too hard to make them look futuristic like it's a kids' toy or a gun in a cyberpunk video game. Plus, they're replacing a lot of the material with polymer.

        Anonymous

I really wish they wouldn’t use so much polymer in its construction the gun would be great if it followed the standard all metal parts like most 1911s/2011s but trying to convince someone to drop 2k+ on polymer handgun with 200 dollars a piece mags is a hard sale

Para Ordinance? Or they're gone now, right? I'm sure you can still easily find their double-stack .45s all over the internet

Para's been dead. Any of the semi custom guys will do you a 45. I think stealth arms offers the platypus in 45. You're just a top end, mags, and ejector from switching between 9 and 45.

Para Ordinance? Or they're gone now, right? I'm sure you can still easily find their double-stack .45s all over the internet

There are Turkish and Israeli options a la Tisas & Girsan/EAA + BUL armory.

Para made the earliest double stack 1911's with a conventional frame design - the 2011 design came later with its split frame & grip.
Rock Island and some turk double stacks are actually unitary frame para clones.
Para mags weren't the best however - there are para clones that ditched them

Girsan/EAA has a turnkey 2011 solution for you in 9mm/10mm/.45 it's actually refreshingly no frills basic for a 2011 imo I would just change the grip frame

  18. 2 weeks ago
    Anonymous

Lmao it's not even the best 2011

      Anonymous

Of course it isn't, it's an entry level 2011.

I really wish they wouldn’t use so much polymer in its construction the gun would be great if it followed the standard all metal parts like most 1911s/2011s but trying to convince someone to drop 2k+ on polymer handgun with 200 dollars a piece mags is a hard sale

The polymer frame keeps a commander length slide well balanced and deforms slightly under recoil giving a softer recoil impulse. I prefer my full length open guns to have metal grips for balance reasons but a polymer grip is better suited for a carry/duty style 2011. I greatly dislike the staccato polymer trigger shoe though, so fully agree there.

Why are 19/2011s like that in general? Is it because they're all metal, so they have a small threshold for tolerances? Is that why polymer guns dominate the market today instead? Just easier to make reliably?

idk but I actually have a Staccato P DPO, I don't shoot as much as Ben S, but I've put at least 1k maybe 2k rounds through it, I drop mags during reloads in the dirt, throw them around, have had zero reliability issues. Shot 115, 124, +P and hollow points as well. Most of the ammo is with 115, 124 ball.

because the 1911 wasnt originally designed for double stack magazines, and to make them accept double stack magazines while primarily using 1911 parts means some compromises had to be made.
Modern 2011 mags from Atlas, Stacatto and Springfield are actually okay. It was more of a huge issue with the Para Ordinance stuff.

Man, I miss when almost nobody had a 2011, most of the owners accepted their problems, and there was almost no cult following.
I blame the zoomers and sti for weaponizing them.
          >The problems, you mean the drop safety?
I mean the unreliability caused primarily by poorly designed magazines that bend feed lips in as little as a single use. I've never had to "re-tune" a magazine in my god damn life.

I blame the STI -> Stacatto rebranding and shifting from competition pistols to tactical oriented.
Granted, it worked out well for them because there are more than a couple PDs buying Stacattos for duty guns.

Yeah, all those zoomers with $3k Staccatos. If anyone "ruined" (tried to sell more and become more popular) it was the company itself who marketed the firearm to law enforcement and security, and the many media portrayals it has gotten from the staccato 2011 to other brands 2011s.
