When I was in ROTC in university I did the CULP program during the summer where I worked with the Spanish Army in Madrid. They are really cool and fun to be around, they are a lot more lax and easy going and I was surprised how open they were with their political views compared to the US. Lots of cool traditions and activities. The equipment I saw was a mix of Cold War era stuff and new vehicles but probably the best time I had with a foreign military when it comes to training. They have amazing MREs.
Ukrainians are miles ahead of every country, expecting maybe Russia depending on how they are able to retain that knowledge institutionally despite sending human wave assaults against ukies with 90% casualty figures.
Went to Moscow during the Civil War to pay for arms. Contrary to myth, it wasn't stolen. The Soviets just charged market rates and gave absolutely zero discounts or consideration.
I got to visit last spring and don't tell nobody this but Spain has a massive amount of core goth chicks and metal head hoes. There was even a CAPITAL amount of the big tiddy variety.

But like 2/3rds of Mexicans are Chilangos or Norteños so both countries have a similar amount of actual "people".
>The american brain isn't ready for exposure to Spanish traditions...
We have something similar in America, but the jannies get mad when I post pics of it here.
Does make me wonder if I should’ve stuck with Catholicism. My antiauthoritarian streak, the kid diddling, and the pope being a Commie make it tough (I miss John “Commie crusher” Paul)
I think that's exactly one of the areas where Americans comprehend you, anon. Of all the places where i have been, i probably ate the second-best in Spain.
But our food is prepared in a simple way, meanwhile american love to drench everything with sasoning, rubs and stuff. I'm glad you enjoyed the food tough.
Nah, even Britain lost its massive empire eventually so did the French, it was not a sudden collapse and considering its legacy as the initiators of western global supremacy, those empires had a good run, nothing lasts forever anon.
as it stands their military only needs to exist in case of a russian funded insurrection in a certain certain area of the country, and for that purpose they are ridiculously overpowered
Not true. Article 5 is unclear about protection of Ceuta and Melilla, if Morocco were to try something it’s also unclear if Spain would have US backing due to having close ties with Morocco
Spain has global commercial and defenser interests, its a net importer of energy and other valuable commodities and a long naval tradition.
Key areas of interest for Spain are MENA and West Africa, so having a potent armada is a necessity.
Its valuable component for NATO,s naval and amphibious capabilities. A criticism would be that historically it invested to much on the army at the expense of the navy for varios reasons, including politics.
Spain does not need a large land army, some well equipped armour brigades to complement NATO forces in eastern europe and the baltics is good enough.
Instead, Spain should maxout on its navy, specially air naval capabilities and expeditionary forces, same Italy tbh.
That is what Italy historically did, in fact our army is underfunded and only now something is getting funded, albeit extremely slowly. Our Navy and Air Force have historically been the ones with much better funding
Better than every thirdie military from Caracas to Bombay
B-tier within NATO
Surprisingly well developed MIC
They made a bunch of AEGIS frigates and two LHDs for the Aussies and those seem to be working well, plus they were delivered on time and within budget >I'm looking at you bongistan
>The Spanish MIC also exports a significant amount of military equipment. In 2022, Spain exported €4.2 billion worth of military equipment, making it the 11th largest arms exporter in the world.

Why does everyone post the foreign legion when they talk about Spanish military here?
The Spanish legion is not “foreign” idk why people call it the foreign legion. You need to have be a Spanish citizen or a legal Spanish resident to join.
You must either be a Spanish citizen or a citizen of any of Spain's former colonies, (all of Spanish speaking SA, Caribs, etc. (filipinos not included) 25% of the legion is from these countries. Their reputation comes from their inclusion and actions outside mainland Europe. It is what it is.
Yes but you still need to have legal Spanish residence to join. If you are a Colombian and immigrate to Spain legally with permit you can join. However you can’t do this if you aren’t from a Hispanic nation or former colony.
"Their reputation"... The only reputation La Legión has is jokes about goatfucking and gigolo aesthetics. Well that and fascism, and none of those have to do anything with results nor inclusion. Nor are they their fault, really, but either way I'm pretty sure they're the least respected of Spain's special forces by anyone not in the army, pretty much the only reason they're so well known outside of Spain is the massive amounts of thirst directed at them and that one civil war film.
They're also not any more inclusive than the rest of the army what you said applies to every branch, I know enough navy and marines to knlw they have a lot of foreign born citizens in their ranks.
[...]

Its because the French Legion is the French Foreign Legion and those retards can't imagine the Spanish army as anything other than a copy of the French army.
Also based on posts I see every time I connect I'm 99% sure there's at least 1 bong poster on this forum with absolutely 0 life (I mean, I do not connect every day but when I connect he's ALWAYS in the recent threads and I do not have enough of a routine when it comes to time of day for us to simply coincide) who just likes shitting on Spain and insulting our military every time he can. (Protip. Look for posts claiming the Ajax fiasco is Spain's fault. See how similar their expressions and already-debunked talking points are, then compare that with posts accusing randies of being Warriortard for the mildest criticism of anything Bri'ish, and I don't mean the posts that are actually obviously Warriortard I mean when they blatantly jumped the gun. Either a lot of those are 1 single guy or we've got clones going around!) So he's probably doing it on purpose.
It was during their civil war, although still a minority. Just read Peter Kemps "Mine Were of Trouble" a bit ago. Good read. He joined, killed Communists and drinks a lot.
Summary; He leaves Cambridge, gets a friend to give a journalist pass, joins the Carlist Militia, transfers to the Legion, is wounded to the extent he is expected to not live through the night and then went on to SOE work in WWII. Good writer as well.

Reminds me of this lad. He just wanted to farm chickens but the Spanish Civil War made him hate communists and fascists with a burning passion.
>After developing a loathing of political extremism of all sorts during the Spanish Civil War, Pujol decided to become a spy for Britain as a way to do something "for the good of humanity".[4] Pujol and his wife[5] contacted the British Embassy in Madrid, which rejected his offers.
>Undeterred, he created a false identity as a fanatically pro-Nazi Spanish government official and successfully became a German agent. He was instructed to travel to Britain and recruit additional agents; instead he moved to Lisbon and created bogus reports about Britain from a variety of public sources, including a tourist guide to Britain, train timetables, cinema newsreels, and magazine advertisements.[6]
>Although the information would not have withstood close examination, Pujol soon established himself as a trustworthy agent. He began inventing fictitious sub-agents who could be blamed for false information and mistakes. The Allies finally accepted Pujol when the Germans spent considerable resources attempting to hunt down a fictitious convoy.[7]
I got to visit last spring and don't tell nobody this but Spain has a massive amount of core goth chicks and metal head hoes. There was even a CAPITAL amount of the big tiddy variety.
I've had the displeasure of working with these mother fuckers. Loud as fuck and walk super slow in massive groups, they're also fucking retarded. They set off massive breaching charges 20-30m away from themselves, I've even seen them set off explosives as the guy is running away. They also have no tactical training at all, we had a flat range along side their infantry and had to teach them basic room clearing. Can't blame that on them though, they only get 500 rounds for a whole year to just re-up on their marksmanship. The only good ones I've met have been their artillery and FO's.
That is more or less on purpose, the army is basically structured on the basis of maintaining an oversized cadre of experienced officers and specialists that will gobble most of the already paltry funds. Then you add that the enlisted admission process is common between all the branches and ground infantry is where the rock bottom of admitted go. What I want to say with this is that aside from a core of units that are kept to a good standard in case of instant need, the rest of ground infantry are on the payroll primarily as a means to keep both NCO´s and officers proficient in the art of retard wrangling, in case shit got serious and conscription had to come back.
True for the army, the air force and navy have higher standards for the training and equipment of the soldiers, (not good, not terrible), also being small compared to the army, they have the luxury of being able to reject the idiots during basic.
When I was in ROTC in university I did the CULP program during the summer where I worked with the Spanish Army in Madrid. What were their political veiws?
They're alright, pretty standard euro army we do a bit of desert training with them
t. french army
They seem like brety nice guys. Only interacted with them when we would do tailswaps and stay over in Rota.
Completely untested in combat.
They served in Afghanistan and iraq. Not to mention peacekeeping operations in Africa. They are as experienced as any other European Military.
>served in Afghanistan and iraq. Not to mention peacekeeping operations in Africa
and how much actual combat did they see?
>They are as experienced as any other European Military
the British, French and Ukrainians are miles ahead of them
>french
sure, they do lots of shit in Africa
>ukrainians
sure, they're in the state of war
>british
eh?
>eh?
Falklands, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Iraq
they're still dropping bombs on ISIS fyi
Ukrainians are miles ahead of every country, expecting maybe Russia depending on how they are able to retain that knowledge institutionally despite sending human wave assaults against ukies with 90% casualty figures.
Pretty sure they’ve deployed in places like every other western nato country
>and how much actual combat did they see?
Dollar store italians, aka the sweaty creepy taxi driver for immigrants instead of the one driving a sedan
Why are they stealing Jesus?
Don't worry, they will ask Jesus for a good death and return it.
The american brain isn't ready for exposure to Spanish traditions...
THAT is a nice looking cross. Is Spain still loaded with silver from the good old days of treasure galleons?
Nahh, long gone.
Except in religious art in Cathedrals and Palaces.
>Is Spain still loaded with silver.
HAVE YOU SEEN OUR ECONOMY?!
Went to Moscow during the Civil War to pay for arms. Contrary to myth, it wasn't stolen. The Soviets just charged market rates and gave absolutely zero discounts or consideration.
that gold wasnt american, contrary to myth
those were gold reserves acquired by selling food, weapons and clothing during and after ww1
Most gold and silver that was taken from natives in the Americas actually ended up in New Spain (Mexico).
Glad to see it worked out for Mexico
Mexico has unironcally surpassed Spain
I've known that for a while but
has me reconsidering
Maybe because it has almost like a 100 million more people? Also the holy GDP isn't an indicator of the quality of life differences.

Its nice being safe in Spain too.

Superpower by 2020 right?

Fuggin kek is this a serious question?
>The american brain isn't ready for exposure to Spanish traditions...

I switched to Protestantism later in life but this sort of stuff seems incredibly cool and based l
Does make me wonder if I should’ve stuck with Catholicism. My antiauthoritarian streak, the kid diddling, and the pope being a Commie make it tough (I miss John “Commie crusher” Paul)
Right, the mega churches, LGBTQA pastors and 40000 flavors of heresy are so much better
I avoid those places like the plague. My Catholic upbringing sensibilities give me a strong urge to purge heresy in such places
I don't think the average american can start to comprend us.
I think that's exactly one of the areas where Americans comprehend you, anon. Of all the places where i have been, i probably ate the second-best in Spain.

What the fuck is a kilogram?
bout a litre of cola
This explains so much about me

Also Spain is the biggest consumer of fish (only Japan eats more, and they compete with Iceland and Norwey I think it was).

I eat at least half a kilo every day.

Not really, they exist to quick deploy to defend the canaries and Balearic islands from amphibious invasion, and to put Morocco under naval blockade.
Any country situated at least semi-close to corsica needs some military protection. Poor france.
Spain has global commercial and defenser interests, its a net importer of energy and other valuable commodities and a long naval tradition.
