The sneaker is for the flea soldier

The modern soldier should be wearing sneakers.
>Quicker
>Lighter
>Easier to take on and off
>Easier to break in
>Breathable
What? You need ankle support because you're carrying 90 lbs of useless shit? It's cold? Double up socks.

i dont need to carry 100 lbs of catshit in mil-tec boots to know that carrying 100 lbs of catshit in mil-tec boots is moronic

Not him, you should be rucking in 0 drop shoes/barefoot shoes (not sneakers either).
Wearing a shoe with a taller heel while weighted fricks the ankles and destroys your ability for dorsi-flexion, which limits mobility, and increases the chance of ankle sprains.

if you're doing quick in quick out guerilla hits this would be fine, but in serious warfare its probably better to have real boots

Have you ever walking through thick woods? You are absolutely moronic. You think every army in the world uses boots for no ducking reason? Either way I used to be moronic just like you and wore sneakers to a week long FTX and regreted it the entire time.

You know how I know you've never been outdoors before?

Not OP, but I've continually downgraded by footwear from mid boots to trail runners to street runners this year. No problems, though I wouldn't want to go through brush without gaiters or something to keep shit out of the tops. My 3-6 day pack weight is only 22-28ish lbs though, so meh.

The point is so you don't roll your ankle with the added support on dodgy terrain, and can step on everything to be honest.
If you're running around concrete on a flat base there is no point in boots other than to get used to them and being taller being honest

I think the weight carried makes a bigger difference. I haven't used my mid boots for years now, and I cross plenty of shitty terrain. Bowling ball sized river stones, etc. Taken some falls (broke one of my shelter poles one trip : ) but no ankle or knee injuries as of yet. As long as your foot isn't heavily planted by the load you're carrying, I just don't think the ankle support is particularly useful, especially for the weight. Heavy footwear is the equivalent of excess unsprung weight on a vehicle, it disproportionately adds to the energy spent and fatigue incurred moving around.

I guess it depends on how risky you are with how you move, personally I love jumping from rock to rock on the dodgiest of terrain so I really enjoy being able to land so solidly and every time I almost twist my ankle which happens often enough due to how reckless I can be when exhausted I'm super glad of the boots.
As you age I suggest you reconsider eve if you're more cautious than I, you stop being as spry and risks to your ankles only go up.
My half boots are quite light honestly, and they're not heavy enough for me to really notice over a 40km hike.

There are studies regarding this and most agree there is no clear link between high shoes and less ankle injuries though it might be a bit less tiresome because the high boots support some leg muscles especially with heavy loads.

Uhh huh. You might be able to do a bit of work in sneakers onboard a navy ship for a bit in sneakers, but you're eventually gonna start crashing your toes into metal obstacles eventually.

The fact its realistic that the US Army would squander tax money on shit like "M1 improved ultralight combat footwear" which would just be sneakers is pretty sad but i also want to see it happen

You arent ussually walking on paved roads but difficult terrain( due to thick grass, leaves , mud , bushes . You might not even see what you are stepping on. Also medevac due to an ankle injury is stupid. Sneakers can rip off when going fast in rough terrain by getting stuck (happened to me , twice). Dont last as long as a pair of good boots) i once went huntingon mountainous rocky terrain in sneakers because boots were very wet from previous day. Sucks all kinds of dick. Get boots . Also the tread slips on wet grass easily in some models

The average soldier isn't going to be doing high speed shit. It's going to be lugging around heavy ass equipment for no reason.
