BASED BASED BASED

Can the Russians get any more credible than this?

This isn't even a fair fight anymore, the gloves are truly off. Denazification is inevitable when you have invincible BTRs.

.. will the BTR survive the ERA going off?

      no

Absolutely not, and even if it did it'd be an immediate mobility kill on the tires.

you're assuming the explosive filler hasn't been sold off on the side

The armor blocks are serviceable, if they aren't simply gutted there could be some toned down ERA explosive variant in them. Or bullet turners, or

Just extra armor. Ever heard of sand? Cheap & effective.

The Soviets conducted experiments on this topic - they put Kontakt-1 on different models of BMP and BTR. When the blocks were detonated, the armor of the vehicle broke through. As a result, they developed a lighter version of Kontakt called Kaktus, but after the collapse of the USSR, the russkies were never able to master its production.
Installing Kontakt on light armored vehicles is an act of extreme desperation.

Kaktus is a more modern large block system. Kontakt is the original lizard skin appearance small blocks as in OP's pic.

          >if they aren't simply gutted

you do realize this is the russian army we're talking about right? there's something comical about the level of dysfunction where the vehicle crews know that kontakt-1 on a bmp is basically a suicide bomb vest, but they also know the commander fenced the explosive filler/inner content before they were born so they know it's safe to put on except it wouldn't help against any kind of modern AT weapon the AFU are fielding and the BMPs are already protected against small arms.

This, those things probably are just filled with sand

          >This, those things probably are just filled with sand

          more likely concentrated kopium

put that way, it sounds almost logical:
            >be VDV
            >forced to put on suicide vest as armor
            >what do
            >sell explosive filler
            >the bullets may go through but at least you don't detonate

Yes easily but the hull will buckle from the explosion. The vehicle would need scrapping afterwards.

    Impressive.

With this most recent achievement, fate has in a single stroke, marked the decline of HATO and spelled a new era of wondrous prosperity and peaceful global dominance for the Russian bear, which promises to firmly stand in sharp contrast to the historically bloody ascent of western powers and the cruel subjugation it brought to the humbler nations of the world. With the blessings of Russian Kontakt-1 armored BTRs, ATGM-resistant VDV and the elite 3rd Army Corps will be the instruments with which Russia affirms its noble stewardship of 21st century European battlefields and offers the non-HATO world a different option; a Russian Orthodox alternative to the depredations of Western leadership and the opportunity for a more equitable and dignified heterosexuality.

Do they understand how these things work or do they just perceive them as magic anti-rocket bricks?

Given how pimped they are, those are likely Chechen victors.
So, no, probably they do not. They probably rolled up to a tank unit and demanded their ERA at gunpoint and the tank crews were like "Wtf?!... DO IT homosexual :DDDDDD!"

        >Holding a tank platoon at gunpoint

Probably the variant with polymer rubber instead of explosive we have seen on top of tanks, too. Rubber does work, but best if at an angle.

    >They want better protection, they say their BTR's aren't safe.
    >Put ERA on it.
    >What?
    >Tell them it's magic protection boxes, and it will make BTR's strrong as tanks.
    >O-ok

And by what we have seen, general imaginaryov would be one of the more competent generals on the field.
